I was on 60mg of oxycontin 3x a day, and cuz of my insurance company had to switch to 15mg of extended release morphine.. I am very concerned about the pain or withdrawal symptoms. Anyone know if it's the same?? ## Oxycodone is actually one and a half times stronger than Morphine, so to be equivalent in pain relief, you'd need 90mgs of Morphine to match each 60mgs you were taking of Oxycontin. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. If you are taking 15mg doses, then yes, you may experience pain and some withdrawal symptoms, which may include nausea, diarrhea, fever and chills. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Wo...

I have been struggling with chronic pain most of my life. I have been taking 3 60MG Extended Release Oxycontin tablets a day along with 3 30MG Oxycodone instant release for breakaway pain. After 3 years of the same dosage it's not working as well as it used to. So my doctor decided to change up the meds a bit. She gave me Morphine Sulphate 60MG ER twice a day and for the life of me I cannot feel this working. It's only been a day but usually I would have pain relief around 30-45 after taking the Oxycontin and then about 3-6 hours of relief. How is this Morphine twice a day at the same MG going to give me the same relief I was getting before AND was already struggling with hence the change to the Morphine? I don't get it, especially after everything I have read falls in line ...

I take morphine 60 mg 2 at a time it has a m on one side 60 on other. I know it's extended release but how much do u get at a time and how long does it last? Plus I can take 5 to 6 30 mgs of oxycodone at a time so how many morphines do I need to equal that? ## Hello, I believe that the absorption rate of any medication is determined by weight and other factors that only your doctor can asses. Is 5 to 6 (30 mg) Oxycodone pills what your doctor prescribed to you? I'm not exactly sure how many grams of Oxycodone will equal 2 (60 mg) Morphine pills, however I do know that Oxycodone is 1.5 times stronger than Morphine. I hope that information is of help to you in some way. If you are considering changing your medication, I recommend that you pay a visit to your doctor.

Hi. I have been on 60 mg of morphine sulfate for 3 years. Me and my doctor talked about either upping my dose of morphine or changing it, so we went with a higher dose of morphine. When I filled my Rx I noticed it was for 15 mg of morphine. Is 15mg of morphine stronger than 60mg of morphine? Both are extended release. ## Hi, I was on morphine for 4 years and 60 mg. Is definitely stronger than 15. He lowered your dose or you should have gotten both the 60mg and the 15 mg. To go along with the 60mg. Thats what my dr. gave me when I needed more. ## VALERIE: It doesn't sound like your doctor is very competent. How can 15mgs be STRONGER than 60 mgs? This makes no sense. Maybe he meant for you to take an ADDITIONAL 15 mgs with the 60? I would call them IMMEDIATELY!! ## Im sorry my mistake...

My boyfriend is perscribed morphine sulfate extended release, and he is currently getting thees oblong ones (e655/60). In the bottle he found one that was just a 1/2. They are skinny and kinda soft so easily broken on accident. In the past he has gotten the wax-coated ones, and said the ER part is in the coating. In these, however, there is no coating. In a broken one- is the ER part also messed up, or is the ER mixed into the whole pill? Wanting to know if taking 1/2 of these is simply 30mg ER instead of 60mg ER. ## Hello, Ashley! How are you? No, it is not safe to take a broken tablet, because that can defeat the timed released formulation and may result in overdose. That said, he should take it to his pharmacy and tell him, they may replace it for him. I've had this happen before...

green and white capsule 60mg ## The drug is a Hydocodine. It is a very potent pill. I have seen them as low as a 10mg and as high as 90mg. There are for sever pain, and should be taken w/ caution. LIke I said VERY potent! ## Correct spelling is Hydrocodone ## This pill is not hydrocodone or hydrocodine. It is a type of morphine iI just don't know what kind. ## Are there any other symbols or numbers on the capsule ? I have the following description which might help: Capsule Half White, Half Bluish Green with the imprint 60 mg on the white half, and if you turn it over 506 on the other side of the white half: This is 60 mg Morphine Sulfate Extended Release brand name Avinza. Does any part of this description sound like a match ?

What is the difference between taking 60 mg morphine 3 times day vs taking 2- 30 mg 3 times a day? Dr. just changed my script..it seems like it would be the same thing.PECNGT ## Are any of your Morphine pills extended-release tablets? I don't think there is any differences in the suggested doses, but rather the two 30mg pills-3 times a day allows you to better adjust your dose if you feel that you don't need as much for some reason or another. That's really one of the only conclusions I can come to, unless any of these are extended release tablets. It may also not have anything to do with the above, and could just be a new dosage protocol that physicians have to adhere to when prescribing Morphine (for safety reasons, etc). Either way, the dosing you were prescribed is no di...

Is the orange coating on my 60 mg morphine part of the extended release? If I wiped it off would it become immediate release? ## I really can't tell you anything about the time release mechanism that's used, without knowing the specific tablet you are talking about. Are there any markings on it, or do you know who the manufacturer is? Then again, that may also be moot, because it is not advisable to try and change how a medication is designed to work. ## To anyone wanting to remove the extended release film on any drug, you are asking for big trouble. Do you know how many people die every year from this sort of behavior? Come on folks people like you are making it hard on others to even get their meds much less take them. ## The coating has absolutely nothing to do with the time...

I find it ridiculous that sooo many people are messing around with schedule II narcotics yet have no clue to the potency, side effects, drug interactions, etc.. are you people not adults? Oxy is indeed a good 1.5% stronger than morphine and not at all subtle like morphine.. Most doses of Oxy that are between 15-30 mg are IR's not ER (extended release like most morphine)... SO BE CAREFUL AND FOR YOUR LIFE'S SAKE! DO SOME SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH BEFORE POPPING YOUR PILLS LIKE CANDY!! 60 mg of oxy in one release can stop your breathing! ## Hello, Nobody! Thank you for the warning you have posted for others. However, I do want to correct one point. The only instant release Oxycodone available is a 5mg capsule. Anything greater than 5mgs is regular release or time released. This is a nar...

I know the 30mg instant release is cheap. can get 240 for a cost of $23.00 with my insurance plan where as the 60mg extended release the cost went up to 351.00 for 180 pills thru my insurance plan. i saw where the new price next year will be almost $1000.00. ## Hello, Pamela! How are you? The price could go either way next year, there's no way anyone can definitively say that it will or will not go up that much next year. IT all depends on supply and demand, the same forces that drive the prices on all other markets. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I was on 5 30mg of oxycodone ir after doing some reading after you have more than 120mg in your system the rest is not helping you it's just loading your system up and your asking for long term problems my dr. Has since put me on 3 30mg oxycodone and one 30mg morphine extended release for nighttime and that seems to be the magic for me, it helps the hard pain during the day and at night lets your system calm down when I'm sleeping. ## even though oxycodone is 1.5 x stronger than morphine, if you take an equivalent dose of mophine sulfate (90 m. vs. 60 oxy), will you still develop the same tolerance/addiction/dependency from the morphine as from the oxycodone? ## Great Gw! I was on morphine sulfate (both immediate and extended release) for several years. It helped relieve some of my back pain and I didn't have any trouble getting prescriptions for it in MICHIGAN. Moving to Florida last winter, I gave up trying to get Morphine Sulfate. It was possible but difficult to get it I guess But I gave up. An Orthopedic doctor put me on Gabapentin and it has lowered my back pain a lot. I'm on 600mg 3 times a day. I've heard that Gabapentin can have some pretty rough side effects (like swollen face) but so far I haven't had any. My depressed wife is also on Gabapentin (100mg 3 times a day) to calm some extreme body shaking and it has worked very well with no side effects so far. ## Hello, Robert!
