Prolia Denosumab

Denosumab (trade names Prolia and Xgeva) is a human monoclonal antibody for the treatment of osteoporosis, treatment-induced bone loss, metastases to bone, and giant cell tumor of bone.[1][2] Denosumab is contraindicated in people with low blood calcium levels. The most common side effects are joint and muscle pain in the arms or legs.[3] Denosumab is a inhibitor of RANKL (receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-Β ligand),[1&...

I am due for my second shot on june 1but i have several bad teeth how long do i have to be off of proliabefore i ban get my dental work ## Hello, Sherry! How are you? You need to check that with your dentist, because it's going to depend on the type of dental work required. Something such as a simple filling may not require that you stop the Prolia, but an extraction would be a different matter. Do they have cavities or do they need removed? ## Haven't had a cavity in over 20 years. First prolia shot in September. Just discovered 3 cavities myself. Could be more. Haven't been to dentist. Definitely concerned.!!!

After the forth shot of Prolia I am experiencing leg pain. I will stop taking the injection but are the side effects able to reverse? ## Hello, Estelle! How are you feeling? I am very sorry about the problem that you've run into. You are not the first to complain about Prolia and I am expecting many more still to follow, it just doesn't seem to work well for many people. And yes, though it will take time, most side effects do eventually wear off. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Ive had 2 shots so far 60 mlgs in 12 months. My dexa scan was very bad all over me . since shots my bonescache 5x worse and head aches cant sleep anxiety. An more. I have other medical problems. Scared not sure if i should stop are go on and do the other 4 shots he ask me to take..... Idk ## Si...

I have had 3 Prolia injections. I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis when I had a severe fracture of my ankle. I knew I had Osteopenia but had to stop Fosamax due to severe foot cramping. The first cycle of Prolia I was fine. The second cycle I experienced horrible relux problems about 1 month out from injection - this continued for several months. Then I broke out in a rash on my back - very itchy - scratched til it bled. Dermatologist swears it cannot be from the Prolia. Well the rash calmed down on my back and I went ahead with the third injection in April. Within weeks my back started itching and now its in my scalp itchy plaque like lesions - GROSS! I will not get another of these injections. I don't think anyone knows what this drug does. I have not had a followup Dexa scan yet. ...

I take ldn for ms...it does help my energy level. My dr wants me to start Prolia for osteoporosis. This drug effects the immune system. I know ldn helps to boost the immune system. Can these 2 drugs be taken together? I need to make a decision soon. I'd like to hear about anyone with ms using Prolia.....I'm scared. ## I just had a Prolia injection 2 weeks ago. I can tell you this, I would rather be in a wheelchair in a nursing home than have this in my system. It completely and totally DELETES YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM. I'm really sick and need to go to the ER but I cannot be around other sick people without an immune system. I will NEVER have another one in my lifetime. Also have a couple of very needed surgeries scheduled that will most probably be cancelled because I have NO IMM...

I've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem? ## Hello, Gracie! How are you? No, this isn't listed from what I can find, but I'll check a couple more sources to be sure and post back. Are you on any other medications? How old are you? ## I'm 57. On no other meds except evista and a pill for reflux. A friend sent me a website that stated that there was a study with some hair loss ## Yes, after my second shot of Prolea, I had two UTIs, fatigue, huge bumps under the skin on my face and all over my scalp, an array of unexplained symptoms like peripheral neuropathy (not diabeti...

Had third Prolia shot 6 weeks ago and my life has changed dramatically. Nasea, headaches, numbness, tingling, weakness, back pain... I was very active and now am barely able to get out of bed! Four doctor visits, all kinds of tests, one ER visit and tests all normal. I am not crazy - it is the Prolia!!!! Don't do it. There are other more natural options to help with bone density. I regret getting this shot. By the way, first two shots had no significant side effects but the third one was debilitating!!!! ## Hello, Rennie! How are you doing? I am so very sorry about what you've been through. Has there been any change? Unfortunately, most of these medications can cause such side effects, according to FDA reports. There are reports on here from many people that have had bad experie...

I have taken Prolia in 2013, I received 2 shots, felt ache, tired, hips hurt, stopped it in 2015 because I had osteopenia, just went for a Bone Density and now I have very bad osteoporosis, I am still on the fence if I should take the Prolia shot again...How do I make my decision....I don't want to break any bones but so scared of all the side effects... ## This medication can cause some serious side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, administraton site irritation, worsening of asthma symptoms, as well as severe joint/muscle aches, according to FDA reports. Did your doctor offer you any other options? Are you on any other medications? Prolia is not the only medication, there are others you can try. Do you take any calcium and vitamin D supplements? ## You have a valid reason for no...

My bone density loss was -2.6 on December 2015, but after my third shot, my bone scan came back as -2.0 and I am going for a 4th shot this month. Can you tell me how many more shots I can go for, in order to become normal? I know my doctor might not be able to tell me how long. Please give me advice. Thank you! ## It sounds like your bone density loss has improved since the third shot. Do you find that to be the case as well based on how you feel? Have you gotten your 4th shot yet? And have any bone density results came back after the 4th shot to help determine your progress? In regards to how many shots one may need in order for bone density to become normal, my conclusion based on other Prolia discussion threads here, is that there's no way to know for certain because we all respo...

after my last dental hygiene appt. my dentist came in and stated the nurse who cleaned my teeth saw many cavities. they did x-rays. i suddenly have 9 cavities & 2 root canals. i never had this before. i contacted amgen, who produce the shot. they said no one has had trouble w/their teeth, just jaw problems. if anyone has had this type of problem, please write in. thank you ## How long of a time period was there between when you received the Prolia and the dental appointment? Are you on any other medications? The reason I'm asking is because many medications can cause dry mouth, which can allow the bacteria that would normally be washed away by saliva to remain on the teeth and cause higher and faster rates of decay, than normal. Therefore, it may not necessarily be directly rela...

I have just had the Prolia injection. So far no side affects that I am aware of. Is there anyone who has continued with Prolia (Denosumab) and had positive results after three years? thanks ## There are many people that have experienced good results from Prolia. What you have to remember though, is that most of them have no reason to go hunting up a site like this to find more information on it. The people that usually post on sites like this one are those that have had a problem and are looking for help, or support. Typical side effects of this medication, according to the FDA, may include administration site reactions, muscle/bone pain, cough, swollen joints, and loose teeth. Can anyone that's done well on Prolia chime in with their experience? ## I just completed 2 shots (one ful...

I had my first inyection by the end of June. I am 57 and had an spine fracture. Befo re prolia I was taken biophosphonates. So far so good, no side effects. Worried about the comments read. ## Hope everything is going well for you and that you will get improvements in your bones strenth. For me, unfortunately, taking a single injection of PROLIA on May 24, 2013 has resulted in ongoing suffering, as I have described in my earlier comments on this website. Would be Interested to know if you are still feeling no side effects 2-3 weeks after injection? ## Just had my first shot Monday feeling kinda like I've been poisoned. Hope this gets better , on my 4th day. Please tell me it gets better. I won't take it again.

Took my first Prolia shot 4 days ago. I am having severe jaw pain. Most people can hear my jaw moving and it feels and sounds like it is cracking. I am going to report to FDA and of course make an appointment with my dentist. I just finished treatment for breast cancer and have to take an aromatase inhibitor for 5 years which causes weakining of bones which is why they prescribed Prolia. I am just beginning but I will never take another dose of Prolia. ## HI! Very sorry that you're in pain and miserable. There have actually been many complaints about Prolia causing these types of issues and many people are refusing to continue on it. Hopefully, it's just some inflammation or something from it and not a more serious problem. Can you post back after you see the dentist and let mw ...

I have severe osteoporosis, have lost SEVEN inches off my height, and look like a turtle with the big hump on the back. My specialist recommended Prolia which I started two years ago. After the first shot I got severe diarrhea starting about ten days later. I had been treated with an antibiotic so my Dr. thought that was the cause. After the second shot the diarrhea came back and the Dr. recommended Align probiotics (and any others I cared to take --"the more the better"). This helped and I have taken three probiotics a day every day since. I had my last shot in August and am again suffering with horrible diarrhea. I will NOT get another shot of this poison--I have heard it causes gluten allergies so guess I will try a gluten-free diet to see if it will help. I am sure you all a...

AMGEN has now admitted to us that PROLIA can cause SEIZURES. My 84 year old mother had a prolia shot in April 11th, and by May 8th she was in hospital with urinary infections and seizures. Doctors couldn't figure out what caused it. Again in September she was again admitted with urinary infections and seizure like symptoms. Mother has been in hospital for months due to this and now needs 24 hour care. I believe AMGEN should pay for this and am looking for a lawyer to take it on. I will post more when we get more results and proof, but BEWARE OF PROLIA.... IF YOU HAVE TAKEN IT, MAKE SURE IT IS ON YOUR DRUG LIST FOR PARAMEDICS AND DOCTORS AT THE HOSPITAL... as it is administered only twice a year, it is easily left off the list. ## I am very sorry about what happened to your mother. My Mum was given a 60mg injection of Prolia on 2nd May 2014. Ever since she has had severe abdominal pain, can't keep off the toilet and her lips have blistered and bled! This is awful and she wishes she had not had it. At 79 years old she suffers with osteoporosis and quite honestly was better off before the injection. I sincerely hope these side effects don't last for six months because she sure as hell won't be having a second dose. Be warned people, it seems that there are so many problems with this drug. ## Hello, Janet! How is your mother feeling? Yes, there have been many complaints about Prolia, there have even been people who managed to take it without a problem the first few times, then suddenly had a reaction.

On 11/6/12 I received a 60 mg dose of Prolia intravenously . Shortly afterwards ( a couple of days) I had severe diarrhea and flu like symptoms which cleared up in a week or so. THEN the jaw pain took over my life----- It was excruciating. I went for a scan of my jaw and was told that I have osteonecrosis of the jaw. Today, 11/1/13 some of the pain has eased but it is still difficult for me to eat chewy foods and to get a good night's sleep. To cough, sneeze or yawn causes severe pain. I get sharp pain in my ear mostly at night. My family doctor prescribed Alleve twice a day and a narcotic pain killer in between when the pain gets unbearable. I contacted the company (Amgen) and was told they were sorry for my problems but had nothing to reverse the symptoms. It has been nearly a yea...

Hello, First I want to say I am 56 and almost never have medicaton problems. I had 4 rounds of chemo in 2010 and am doing great. My oncoligist said it would be benifical for me to have Prolia every 6 months. My T score waas good but he thought it would help me later. I had my first (and only) Prolia injection on 12/01/11. Six days later I was in severe pain and went to see my primary care physician and he sent me streight to the emergancy room.I had upper left abdominal pain and fever. I haven't been to the emergancy room in 25 years. Well I had all the usual tests and they thought it might be diverticulitis. New to me I never had that before. My primary doc and my ortho docs told me he didn't think it was diverticulitis and I should not have Prolia again. I am now having some j...

I have had 3 Prolia injections so far. Only recently did I see a pattern regarding the ensuing pain. After each injection, I would have about four pain-free days. Then I would have five months of constant and debilitating pain in both hips, both knees, both thighs and both shins. At the end of the fifth month, the pain would stop suddenly, and I would have one month with no pain at all. This would be followed, of course, by another Prolia injection, and the pattern would repeat itself. The reason I kept going with the Prolia was that my rheumatologist informed me that my pain had no connection to the drug! It took me three repetitions to smarten up and decide to believe my body. I will be having no more injections! ## Hi Jan, Glad to hear you're taking back control over the pain! No...

I have Polycythemia Vera which is a bone cancer. I am 76 years old and have been taking Prolia for a few years. I have had breast cancer twice. Waiting for insurance to okay a valve replacement for my heart. The co pay for Prolia still is climbing. The oncologist said he could try me on Reclast to see if that would be cheaper since it is only once a year instead of twice for Prolia. I'm afraid the Reclast will mess with my kidney. Not sure if I should bite the bullet with Prolia, since I know what to expect. Any suggestions?
