WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY TO GET OFF mirtazapine 15 mg after taking it for 3 weeks? ## Hi Ben, This is just my opinion, but usually for drugs like this the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them, if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them. In addition to that, I'd also suggest making yourself a tapering schedule on a calendar to track your progress and keep you on the right path to complete your goal within a specific time frame. Without a way to track your progress, tapering can sometimes be much more difficult than it needs to be. I hope this advice helps! ## Thanks. Your idea is what I w...

My physician placed me on a 15mg dose of Mirtazapine beginning with just a 'half' dose for the 1st week. I tried this dosage for 2 nights and ended up having 'heigthened' throbbing and 'restless-like' syndrome of my entire body-especially the right side. I have Fibromyalgia, Renauds' syndrome and have suffered from years of sleep problems. I have been on varying doses of Elavil over the last 12 yrs but this no longer helps. I do suffer from mild depression, mostly due to work stresses but I have been on a medical leave since July 11'05 post rotator cuff surgery. Tonight I will be trying Ambien- 5mg dose. The claim that Mirtazapine is used to treat 'tremors' is contradictory in my case-seemed like it was causing mild tremor-like throbbing with my l...

Ive been prescribed 15mg tablets of mirtazapine but a little worried about taking them, are they very similar to sertaline , are they classed as anti-depressants or are they sleeping tablets. Please help thank you in advance ## I am taking migraine for one week and have not been able to sleep for 3 days now . All night long I am awake . Please help me and let me know what to do. My dr. Tells me I have to fight it. I feel awful. All I do is like awake hours. ## Hello, Julie! How are you? Yes, it is a classified as an antidepressant, though in a different class than Sertraline. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. Susan, that can happen for a few weeks, when you first start taking it, due to the way it shortens your ...

Hi I have been taking Mirtazapine 15mg for one week. I am either crazy angry or crying, my head won't stop thinking about everything I need to get done, I can't remember where I have put things or what I was thinking about, I feel very nervous & agitated, I cannot sit down & relax but on the upside I'm sleeping well.... Help!! ## Hello, Adele! How are you doing? Has there been any change? That can happen, when you first start taking this type of medication, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. However, things usually improve after about 3 to 4 weeks, once your body gets used to the medication. If they do not, or if they worsen, you should consult your doctor as you may need to try a different medic...

I started on 15mg mirtazapine 7 weeks ago and titrated up after 4 weeks to 30mg for 1 week; then back down to 15mg for the last week. I want off this awful medication. I feel completely spaced out all the time but am aware withdrawal is horrendous. I have been really agitated the past 48 hrs so I want to limit withdrawal symptoms as much as possible. I was going through a bad divorce, serious debts and being staked for 9 months by my ex husband of 26 years. I have had extensive counselling and am mentally in a much better place so I want to come off this poison ASAP safely. Thank you for your reply. ## Hello, Beth! How are you? Overall, divorces always suck, even if we have to do them for own good, I dealt with one back in 2009 and my new husband had to deal with one back in 2015, so I ...

been taking mirtazapine 15 for lower back pain (degenerative condition)for 3wks yesterday was my first day for more than 1 year without painkillers - remedine forte - they did not take pain away!! had tried physio, reiki, etc etc had tried amytripaline -did not work- only downside are the weird dreams but a small price to pay for painrelief. I was not offered this med by my gp but having read about it I asked for it ## The weird dreams are too be expected, since Mirtazapine is a NaSSA, which means it does have an effect on brain chemicals. However, the good news is they will most likely taper off in frequency and severity after a few more weeks, once your body is more used to the medication. Learn more Mirtazapine details here. I'm glad that it's working for you, though. That...

I am 71, healthy but have mild grogginess in the morning and sinus like headache which I have read as a possible side effect. I have been taking mirtazapine 8 months feeling pretty well till headaches began in sinuses. I did have baloon dilation sinoplasty in Feb. in Florida because I suffered with sinus headaches in New England where I live last summer. They went away but had procedure as a proactive measure. Felt well 1 month and half after procedure and headaches started after. ENT said procedure went well look at other options for headaches.. Mirtazapine? ## Hello, Pamela! How are you doing? I was told they are a tablet that takes longer than others to get into the system proberly 8wksfor depression so to persivere with them.. I am not at all happy with the weight gain issue attacted to them , but was told if you eat healthy 3 times a day & resist the urges you may get , and eat fruit , you will not put on weight , as of yet I am O.k. but I do feel bloated ,and my tummy looks it.. I had previously worked as a police officer for just short of 3 decades, and the last 15 years of that was as an undercover narcotics investigator. I had not slept more than 4 hours in the last 20 years . I absolutely knew something was very wrong with my body, constantly exhausted, very negative attitude, and i had bad aches and pains, its just goes on and on. I retired and decided to sit down with a doctor and "lay it all out on the line, then let the chips fall where they may, no lies, nothing held back" I soon discovered something called a 96 hour commitment order, which i narrowly escaped by having to lie to keep from a locked down mental evaluation. my problems are manifested from 10 years of assisting in many dead body removals while assisting ems, picking up body parts fr...

My daughter was prescribed Mirtazapine for insomnia. Does it cause depression? ## It's actually a type of antidepressant, but it can have the opposite of its intended effect in some people that take it. Learn more Mirtazapine details here. Is she having a problem with depression? ## Mirtazapine is an antidepressant therefore should not cause depression however of all the antidepressants it is very good for anxiety and sleep too so in some individuals this might translate to depression. If you have a vegetative type of depression rather than an anxious type you might experience sluggishness in a.m. ## Sorry, but I have been taking mirtazapine 15mg and I can confirm that it has altered my behavior, increased the frequency of my absence seizures, increased suicide attempts and worsened...

My 24 year old overdosed on paracetamol and aspirin last week. She took over 40 tablets. After being released from hospital and seeing her local GP she has been given 14 day supply of this drug. I am concerned to allow her to keep all the tablets. ## Hi, I had overdosed on 15mg mirtazapines and had the Dr's check me over about 3 days later. Do you think all is ok? ## This is an antidepressant that is used to treat various mental health conditions. If you are concerned, it might be best for you to keep the tablets and dispense one to her each day, for her own safety, that is often what is done in mental health units, when someone is suicidal and they want to be cautious. The NIH lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, mood swings, headache, ...

Does Mirtazapine continue to cause drowsyness as long as it is taken, or does that (side) effect wear off in time? If so, how long does it take to wear off? ## Ive been on it for two years, you will def. feel drowsy when you wake up it will take at least and hour or two to wear off and It also seems to wear off once you keep yourself busy ## I have been on Mirtazapine for 9 months now - 15mg at night. I take it around 9:30 pm, but always feel groggy in the morning. True - if you just get up and get going, it will wear off fairly quickly. It has helped me sleep thru the night and gain back weight that I had lost. I feel bloated most of the time, even when I am at my normal weight. ## I've been on Mylan-Mirtazapine for the last year. Has any one else experienced this? I had to start using the Mylan version of Remeron / Mirtazapine and I now get sever leg cramps, headaches and the return of my depression. It’s as though it has NO active ingredient in it. The name brand Remeron puts me to sleep about 15 min after taking it, but the Mylan generic for of Remeron/Mirtazapine does not. I stay awake for hours. I can not afford the name brand remeron at $187.00 a month but I am to afraid if I try to use the Mylan version again the worse will happen. I am kind of between a rock and a hard place over this. But I have switched back and fourth enough times now that I know the Mylan version does not work. I get this from Walgreen’s in IL and I am looking for similar problems. Walgreen’s tell me they will not ca...

## I started taking 15 mg of Mirtazapine a month ago and for anxiety, feelings of fear and worry and depression. I’m still feeling some worry and fear. I’m having some bad dreams and very over anxious. I’m having headaches and constipation. These dreams are the worst. Do these side effects get less powerful over time? ## Many people on Mirtazapine report a worsening of their symptoms of anxiety and depression in the early weeks of starting Mirtazapine (same as many other anti-depressants). It can take several weeks for the drug to begin working and then symptoms improve. Mirtazapine usually works faster than newer SSRI anti-depressants (many people report improvements between 2-5 weeks). However some people may need their dosage adjusting to get the full benefit. Is anyone experiencing the same symptoms? I am on Mirtazapine 15 mg for over 10 years, and I am taking Aurobindo Mirtazapine since March 2015. Until Sept 2016, I don't have any problem. Now suddenly, I get dizzy sometimes, and my sleep has been shallow for the past three weeks, and last night I could not fall asleep at all. I have been experiencing withdrawal symptoms, my heart beats fast and I feel anxious throughout the day. In 2010, there seemed to be the same problem in Mylan Mirtazapine. Source: "Mylan Mirtazapine does not work" I wonder if Aurobindo recently changed the factory. By reading the above link about Mylan Mirtazapine, I found it is very difficult to compose the pill and the effect is different from manufacturer to manufacturer. My doctor told me to stop taki...

Hi all. Great reading your posts. I am on Mirtazapine for the second time. Happy new year by The way. Firstly my psychiatrist put me on 30mg. It knocked me out every time. I had vivid abnormal dreams, lucid which I love. Nevertheless I had the munchies all the time coupled with lethargy, fuzziness and mild hallucinations. I kept going but was getting chubbier by the week. So i decided to ween myself of them feeling that my depression and residual psychosis from previous street drug abuse had resided or gone altogether. 3 weeks off them I was back in a dark gloomy and aggressive place my mood was irrational my thoughts racing always looking for someway to escape myself. 2 months later I went back on them and at first I felt like they were not working so the doc uped them from 15 to 30mg....
