I was wondering if you guys know how much Micardis 40 alone lowers your bloodpressure from baseline? ## Hi SHERRIE, Since medications effect everyone differently, it will be hard to know exactly how Micardis 40 will work for you. Here is a link to a Micardis 40 thread that you can post in, maybe someone who has had experience with this medication will be of more help. Discuss/Micardis-40-mg-194179.htm Have you attempted to make any changes to your diet/lifestyle for the sake of your blood pressure? My boyfriend dealt with high blood pressure for years but was able to lower it by controlling his eating habits and exercising. He started to eat a diet with lower sodium foods (replaced table salt with pink himalayan sea salt) to help reduce inflammation and water retention and added in a he...

high blood presure ## My new cardiologist has prescribed Micardis HCT to replace Triam HCTZ. My blood pressure has always been fine using Triam HCTZ and Atenolol. This new drug costs more ansd seems to list a lot of side effects. I'd like to know what experience others have had with Micardis HCT. Thanks ## Joanne, if you are happy with what your doctor was taking, then just tell them that you would rather not switch. In most cases, they are prescribing something new because some drug rep from the company bopped into their office and talked them into it. They got free samples, free gifts, free pens, whatever. It really doesn't matter that a newer med is really a great unkown, the drug reps tell them it is great, so they start writing scrips for it. ## Thank you. This same cardiol...

I would like to know how people are reacting to name brand Micardis 40 mg? I just started and am not sure if the side effects will get better over time. I.e., worse back pain (already have chronic back pain but seems to be worse since starting this), worse anxiety and depression, headache, stomach upset, general aches and pains in joints. I was on 80 mg of Lisinopril for 10 years ~ yes, 10 years! I had no problems with side effects or at least I thought I didn’t, but after being on it about 7 years I started to get bouts of severe gastritis which I blamed on too many steroid shots and also tinnitus. I had no idea that BP pills could cause so many long term side effects. I had to get off them when my pharmacy switched to Solco brand and they were terrible! Instant headache and seve...

I took my 80mg of micardis at 9:30 and accidentally again at 10. In total I have had 160 mg within a span of 10 hrs. What should I do? ## Hello, Robyn! How are you? Did you experience any adverse effects? In most cases, doubling up just once will not cause any serious issues, according to NIH reports, but you may experience more severe side effects than usual, which may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Are you on any other medications? ## i did not have any effects at all the dose was taken 10 hours after ist dose so i guess the time lapse made it ok. i did not feel any different i waited 24 hrs before my next dose thankyou robyn

Can somebody help me please? Thank you! ## Hello, Rence! How are you? No, that's fine, as long as you do take one each day, as prescribed. My mother was taken off of Plendil and placed on Micardis several months ago. Since then, she has had several falls, and the last two, she states she felt as if she blacked out before she fell. She is 81 years old, but this has been recent and I was wondering if the medication change may be a contributing factor. ## Micardis contains the active ingredient Telmisartan, it is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure, and certain cardiac conditions. Yes, it can cause dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, and general hypotension (low blood pressure) as side effects, so it could be causing, or contributing to her falling. Other side effects may include increase urination, and headache. Is there on any other medications? Is her doctor aware of the falls? Even if a fall didn't require...

Then I took Micardis again one tablet and then reduce to one half for about one month and then stopped, after 12 days of stopping my reading increased slowly for five days and yesterday become 172/105, now I have some headache in both left brain and eye. Hi there, I have been on Micardis 40 mg for 5 weeks & for at least 18 days I've been suffering from lower back pain. Has anyone suffered from this. I had been on Trandate for c.7 years due to pregnancy & breastfeeding but was originally on Micardis for c10 years with no side effects. I'm finding this back pain so debilitating. I'm going back to my gp on Monday but also have a physio appointment in case it's just a coincidence. Thanks ## It can be a side effect of this medication and I have experienced it myself from several blood pressure/cardiac medications. In all cases, I had to see my cardiologist and switch medications. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there an...

After 5 years of taking Micardis, I read that it could be the cause of my Interstitial Cystitis (IC). DR stopped it & pain in bladder has subsided, but still have urethral burning. How long will it take for the Micardis to leave my system? I am now taking Clonidine I mg bid for BP. with some side effects from this med. ## Hello, Kermit! How are you? What side effects are you experiencing from the Clonidine? The FDA lists its typical ones as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, constipation and diarrhea. I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT BENADRYL, TYLENOL INTERACTIONS WITH MICARDIS. ANYONE HAS EVER HAD SUCH, OR ANY OTHER MEDS. ## if a person is on micardis plus BP medicine can they use Tylenol for headaces and colds ## The only notable warning I found is a possible interaction between the Telmisartan in the Micardis, and the Diphenhydramine in the Benadryl, the FDA does warn that the combination could cause more drowsiness than usual, as well as lowered heart rate, and lowered blood pressure, so you should be aware to watch for any warning signs, such as severe dizziness, or drowsiness. I don't take Micardis, but I do take a similar medication, Losartan, and Benadryl and Tylenol are among the few medications my doctor has approved of me taking. Is there anything else I can help with?

I used micardis for 7 years and stopped taking it two months ago I now have stomach pain can the withdrawal of this drug be the problem?? ## Hello, Dawn! How are you? After 2 months, it is highly doubtful. Normal withdrawal effects would include nausea, dizziness, chills, elevated heart rate, diarrhea and elevated blood pressure. What medication did you replace it with? There many things that could cause stomach pain, according to the NIH, such as gastritis, ulcers, gas and etc. How often do you have the pain? Where is it located? Have you consulted your doctor?

IS THERE A SUBSTITUTE FOR MICARDIS HTC THAT IS CHEAPER AND STILL WORKS AS GOOD. ## Micardis HCT was only approved for use in 2000, this the companies patent is still active and a generic is not available. ## THANKS FOR THE INFO. ## Very welcome ## Is there a drug in the same family as Micardis that might be cheaper? ## is there a substitute for the drug micardis hct 80mg/25mg that is cheaper ## My Pharmacist and Cardiologist just changed micardis to losartan potassium at a MUCH lower cost. Check it out with your Dr. ## My insurance recommended Losartan to replace Micardis, because of the cost, I was on it for a month, it didn't work for me, plus it gave me headaches, had to go back to Micardis. ## My pharmacist suggested amodipine besylate, trade name Mylan. I am 64 yr old female with HTN. ACE inhibitors caused severe muscle weakness, can't take Calcium Channel Blockers d/t GERD, so MD finally tried ARBs: Losartan Potassium caused paresthesia and PVCs (symptoms vanished right after drug dc'd). Then Rx'd HCTZ alone with good efficacy but d/t elevated readings in MD office, was changed to Micardis and HCTZ. Paresthesia returned. Micardis stopped, (back to HCTZ only), but paresthesia continues even after off Micardis x 6 weeks. How long can it take for paresthesia to stop? ## After 6 weeks it should have started to improve, already, unless some permanent nerve damage has been done, or if it's also being affected by the HCTZ, since it can also cause it as a side effect. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly includin...

Hi, I have been on Co-Micardis 40/12,5 for 5 years now and bp is steady at 110/70. Recently moved to Saudi Arabia and today the Dr put me on Micardis 80 Plus, I think because of the language barrier as my bp tested normal. Can I take 1/2 tablet daily? ## Hello, Herb! How are you? They are listed as containing the same ingredients, Telmisartan and Hydrochlorotiazide, so you may want to take just half of a tablet, as long as your doctor approves. The language barrier might have caused some misunderstandings. The U.S. FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?
