What kind of an infection is this for and how does it interact with alcohol? ## Amoxicillin is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as pneumonia; bronchitis; gonorrhea; and infections of the ears, nose, throat, urinary tract, and skin. It is also used in combination with other medications to eliminate H. pylori, a bacteria that causes ulcers. Amoxicillin is in a class of medications called penicillin-like antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, and other viral infections. The Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium "combination" results in an antibiotic with an increased spectrum of action and restored efficacy against amoxicillin-resistant bacteria that produce -lactamase. In other words this is a more...

What are the side effects or problems when using alcohol and dairy products with Amox Tr-K Clv 500-125 mg tabs? ## Hi Robert, Based on my research, there are no drug interactions listed between amoxicillin clavulanate potassium and the use of alcohol or dairy products. So in that regard you should be fine taking the two together in moderation. However, it is equally important to know that these types of drugs can effect each person differently, whereas potential side effects may still arise just from using the medication in and of itself. If you don't know how your body reacts to the combination alcohol and antibiotics, it may be wise to lessen your consumption of it for the duration of your treatment. Sometimes the use of alcohol can increase the drowsiness that is often associated...

I have enlargement of lymph nodes, can I use Amox K Clav 500-125? ## @Frank, Even though infections are the most common cause of swollen lymph nodes, it's not necessarily the only cause. For this reason I'd still encourage you to speak with your doctor about diagnosing the cause, before taking an antibiotic (if in fact you end up not needing to take it). In the event that it is an infection, Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium (500 mg - 125 mg) does cover a broad spectrum of bacteria, so in my opinion it may be a feasible approach. You can read more on the causes and treatment options for swollen lymph nodes here: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/003097.htm I hope this helps!

A few weeks ago I was sick and was prescribed Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium tablets 875/125 mg to take twice a day. They worked fast and I didn't feel the need to complete the treatment. I woke up with horrible throat pain a couple of nights ago, it would not let me sleep! the next 2 days were hell. I remembered I had the meds and decided to take them. The problem? After that last time that I took them, we discovered that our 21 month old baby is allergic to penicillin. He had been taking it, because he was sick and a few days after starting he started to have a reaction. My mother in law and my own mother are very allergic to it. I can't hold my baby!!! I started to take the meds and didn't think that it could affect my son, but it did. Being in contact with me trig...

Can I take Mucinex along with Tylenol & Amoxicillin / Clavulanate Potassium Tablets, USP 875 mg/125 mg? ## Hi Nancy, According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), there are no interactions listed between Mucinex, Tylenol (acetaminophen) and Amoxicillin. While this doesn't necessarily mean no interactions exist, I personally haven't had any issues taking these together in the past. However, if in doubt, it may be a good idea to double check with your doctor first. I hope this helps!
