One of the primary factors that doesn't seem to be well known to the public, is that the FDA allows active ingredients in generic meds to vary by as much as 25% from the actual listed dosage. This could potentially mean that a 5mg hydrocodone may actually turn out to be 3 to 7 mgs depending on the manufacturer. Aside from that, subtle differences in the "inactive" ingredients (binders/fillers) could also impact the absorption/overall efficacy of the medication. Metformin HCL ER vs Metformin ER
Was taking Metformin HCL ER TABS 750mg by Teva. Got new insurance and they sent Metformin ER TAB 750mg by Watson. Are they the same? ## They are both the same medicaton, the HCL just stands for Hydrochloride, which designates the precise chemical salt the medication is derived from and wasn't included as an abbreviation on the second one from Watson.
