My Dr. told me I can just quit the metoprolol, my heart rate sometimes dips into low 40's for a few seconds at night when sleeping. I was put on this years ago for Anxiety, not for any condition... I take 25 MG of the extended release, how much of a low dose is this and whats its affect on heart rate being a small dose, should I expect bad withdrawal issues? ## Hello, Mickey! How are you doing? I'm 36 yrs old (male), my Blood pressure level rises to max 150/100. and for my doctor prescribed me Metoprolol Succinate Extended-Release & Amlodipine 25/2.5 once daily at bed time, and i've been on this medication for the past four months. But still my BP level is not fully controlled and after the medication too, my BP level is @130/90. And i've been having some side effects too like dizziness, headache and my neck randomly becomes stiff. So i want to stop this medication and would like to try another prescription. but in doing so i want to know whether there would be any serious imbalance in my pressure level or any withdrawal symptoms? so i would like to get a feedback on this matter. thank you. ## Hello, Naga! was taking metoprolol er 25 mg for a year, asked the dr for something less expensive so she switched me to metoprolol tar 25 mg. yesterday was the 1st day of taking new. I felt horrible last night, is there a difference in the 2 meds. ## Yes, there is a difference. The ER stands for extended release, which means that medication is slowly released, over time and the new one is a regular release formulation, if it doesn't have anything listed like ER, XR, SR or etc. If your body is used to having the medication released slowly, over time, then this might have results in some blood pressure spikes, as well as some minor withdrawal like symptoms.
