i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol. i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred. is this withdrawal? how long will it last? i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad. ## I am experiencing the same thing and I am tapering off of the metoprolol. I have only been on for a couple of months and now the withdrawal is just as bad. I am down to 12.5 mg two times a day. It is tough. ## it went away after a week or so. i feel great now, and my BP and heart rate have risen slightly, but thats the reason we stopped it. i've lost en...

My Dr. told me I can just quit the metoprolol, my heart rate sometimes dips into low 40's for a few seconds at night when sleeping. I was put on this years ago for Anxiety, not for any condition... I take 25 MG of the extended release, how much of a low dose is this and whats its affect on heart rate being a small dose, should I expect bad withdrawal issues? ## Hello, Mickey! How are you doing? It is normal for your heart rate to drop, when sleeping and this medication can also lower it, as a side effect, according to FDA reports. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and orthostatic hypotension. That's the lowest dose available, most people start at 25mgs and titrate up, when treating heart conditions, or high blood pressure. There sho...

So I was prescribed Metoprolol for high BP and have taken it for a total of about 8 years. It was horrible in the beginning - weird, vivid nightmares, constant fatigue, weight gain..but I kept on because I thought that I had to for my BP. Probably a bad decision. My dosage has been as high as 100mg in the beginning, and was gradually lowered by the doctor over the years. Most recently for about the last year I had taken a half of a 25mg per day, so a pretty low dose. I started to feel as if this medicine was hurting more than helping so I asked the doctor who said that I could wean off. So I did for about two weeks - a half of a 25mg every other day, then stopped. The last pill I took was about two months ago. I still feel as if I'm having withdrawal, but is that still possible two ...

How are you doing? A sudden withdrawal from the Metoprolol may cause some elevation to your heart rate and blood pressure, as listed by the FDA, but the Lisinopril should help keep it from hitting dangerous levels. Thus, you should be able to stop, as your doctor instructed. But make sure to seek medical attention, if your blood pressure and heart rate do start to go too high. Is there anything el...

I have been taking Lexapro for the last 10 months. I have recently stopped. This week I feel very light headed, dizzy and absolutley exhausted. I am having difficulty sleeping also. I have had a pretty busy week as I work and I have a daughter of 18 months to look after also. Can you advise me of a course of action please? ## Have you consulted your doctor? Why did you stop taking the Lexapro? It contains the active ingredient Escitalopram, which is an SSRI antidepressant and, after taking it continuously for that long, a sudden cessation will normally result in some withdrawal symptoms and rebound effects, because your body has gotten used to having it. Usually these medications need to be tapered, over a period of time, to help prevent the worst of these problems from occurring. ## I ...

I was prescribed Metoprolol 13 years ago for a high/fast pulse rate,i was also prescribed Lisinopril 20 mg. for high blood pressure at the same time. Now that i have been diagnosed with Raynauds Syndrome,my rheumatologist has suggested replacing Met0prolol with Nifedipine XL 30 mg.My primary care doctor would not allow me to go off of Metoprolol without consulting a cardioligist. Cardioligist said decrease dosage to 12 1/2 mg.a day for 10 days and then stop taking it and give my body a break before starting Nifedipine XL.I also take an 81 mg aspirin every day and 4 Aleve 220 mg.for osteoarthritis every day.I need to have surgery on my nose so i had to go off of aspirin and Aleve and just take acetaminophen. All of this is happening at the same time;is Metoprolol withdrawal as well as not ...

Can you stop this med right away if there's too many side effects? I was on metoprolol, that stuff is terrible. Tapering off it now as it kept causing high blood pressure spikes. ## Hello, Ralph! How are you? As reported by the U.S. FDA stopping such a medication abruptly can create the risk of rebound effects, which may include dangoeursbly elevated blood pressure and heart rate, such effects could cause a risk of heart attack, stroke or heart failure. What problems are you experiencing with it? What are you taking it to treat and what will you be replacing it with? ## Was on metropolo , switched to valsartan , per dr. After one pill of valsartan the next day have problems, get winded just walking to mailbox and back, fast heart rate ,just got back from emerg. Room they checked eve...

was taking metoprolol er 25 mg for a year, asked the dr for something less expensive so she switched me to metoprolol tar 25 mg. yesterday was the 1st day of taking new. I felt horrible last night, is there a difference in the 2 meds. ## Yes, there is a difference. The ER stands for extended release, which means that medication is slowly released, over time and the new one is a regular release formulation, if it doesn't have anything listed like ER, XR, SR or etc. If your body is used to having the medication released slowly, over time, then this might have results in some blood pressure spikes, as well as some minor withdrawal like symptoms. Found a white pill with 167 in scored on the other side and my sisters room she swears insane ibuprofen 800 and my mom are suspicious can anybody please help answer what is still is ## This tablet is manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries and they list it as containing 100mgs of Metoprolol, which is a beta blocker that's most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. If she's been taking them, it would be best to take her to her doctor to be monitored, because a sudden withdrawal can cause rebound high blood pressure and elevated heart rate, which could put her life in danger. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi everyone who is suffering the horrible side effects of Metoprolol withdrawal (including myself). I just got off about 4 days ago. I am doing a cleanse to get this stuff out of my body. Also eating a lot of fruits, veggies and fiber rich foods. I'm feeling a little better today. Day 2 & 3 were HORRIBLE. Juicing is also beneficial. Just thought this may help. ## Hi, Becky! Sorry about the problems that you're having. However, Metoprolol is a beta blocker that's used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions, so it shouldn't cause serious withdrawal effects. The most serious problem that usually occurs, when someone stops taking it is due to the rebound effect that it can cause. This can result in someone developing seriously elevated blood pressure...

In need of an answer asap. Start" harvoni treatment this Tuesday." Doctor is( taking away Digoxin for heart and changing it to Metoprolol Succinate ER-did take metoprolol tartrate for B/P.) He also wants me to take (liquid Gabapentin in place of my xanax that I have taken for 16 years. Was taking 3-4, 2mg tablets of xanax daily, then I cut back to 1 mg tablets 3-4 tabs daily, which I cut back myself and feel I am ok, and do not want withdrawals, and have to go to work-no choice but also need the Harvoni. Why all of the changes? I don't mind the Metoprolol Succ ER change, but the xanax, yes. ## I checked several databases, and didn't find any interactions listed between Harvoni, and Xanax, however, it is always possible that your doctor is aware of some issue that has not...

Been taking 10-12 mg.Lisinopril/Hydro for 2 yrs. My mom just passed away with ARDS and I believe it was caused by her taking Lisinopril. It just scared me so much, that I told my doctor I didn't want to take it anymore. I am also on 25 mg. Metoprolol. My doctor told me to just stop it and visit him in two weeks. So far I feel okay but still have a dry cough now and then and feel like I am fighting a head cold. Does this sound par for the course on this med.? ## Has there been any change? Yes, those can be normal side effects and withdrawal effects of Lisinopril, but things should improve in a few weeks as your body adjusts, according to FDA reports. However, it is best to keep an eye on your blood pressure and heart rate, plus keep all follow up doctor's appointments, just in ca...

Is there anyway that I can stop taking some of these medications? I have to take medications a day and I would like to eliminate some of these medications. ## Hello, I would speak with your healthcare provider before stopping any of your current medications. Only he will know your past medical history and what steps you should take through the withdrawal process. However, I can offer some information about how to plower your blood pressure naturally. Over the past few years I've done a lot of research on natur...
