Is the best time to take this medicine in the morning or night? ## Has your doctor made any specific recommendation? Metoprolol is a beta blocker, used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions and, in most cases, this type of medication is taken in the morning, because most people are far more active during the day, so that is the time their blood pressure can be elevated. However, it can cause some drowsiness and dizziness, in some people, as a side effect, and in those instances, it may be necessary for someone to take it at night. ## I am taking Lisinopril @20mg and also i am taking Metoprolol tart 25mg tab myl, my question is why do i take two High bloodpressure pills? blood pressure ## Metoprolol Tartrate Click Here ## I have been taking Metoprolol Tartrate 25mg, twice a day since my heart operation in 2006. Throughout this time I had "occassional" dizziness. However, this past April I nearly fully collasped while walking in my house. Thinking it was my heart, I spent 3 days in the hospital and was tested "head to foot" and no problems were found. Since that time I would have "passing out" symtons while walking , and would completly stop, and it would disappear. This was happeing frequently. In May I passed out while standing. On June 1 dosage was dropped to 25mg ONCE a day. I am now fine ## I am currently taking clonidine 1 mg once a day, Metropol 100 mg 2x a day, and nifipine 90 mg once a day. My pressure is usually around 110/70 if I take this what will it make my pressure drop to. I just had a coronary artery bypass graft almost a month ago. But my pressure has dropped to almost 70 and I was very light headed. I dont want another episode like that. ## Hello, Amanda! How are you? According to the FDA information, Metoprolol is a beta blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain and increased urination. Unfortunately, there is no set number I can quote you for how much it will lower your blood pressure, that can vary from person to person. It doesn't work, at all, for some people and for others, it can work too well. The only thing you can really d...

I was just prescribed this 1x/day to treat palpitations that I frequently get after a meal. Not necessarily the increased heart rate type of palps, but more so the being able to feel every beat in my chest type of palps. What concerns me is that my sleeping heart rate is normally 48-51 and my normal blood pressure often dips to 90s/50s and on the rare occasion can fall to the high 80s/40s. I have never fainted due to low bp, but have often gotten lightheaded upon standing. With starting numbers as low as these, would it be unsafe to start taking this drug? ## Hello, Joe! How are you doing? Have you started taking it, yet? If so, what has occurred? It is odd that this would be prescribed for palpitations that only occur after a meal, since that can be a normal thing for some people due t...

I was prescribed MT 25mg twice daily by the ER doctor after 3 visits of increased heart rate. Was diagnosed with sinus tarchycardia. It has helped my episodes but my bp has dropped to 94/55. Due to me not having insurance, im not able to get an appt til Dec/Jan. I was wondering if its safe to half my doses because I can tell when its low & I can't keep going to the er. PLEASE REPLY SOON ## Tablets can be cut, or split, unless they are time released formulations and/or your doctor or pharmacist has instructed you otherwise. Are you having any symptoms from your BP being that low, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and etc? If not, then there is no reason to worry, because those aren't dangerous numbers and are nothing to worry about, unless they are causing problematic sym...

Been having an itching scalp and skin at night when going to bed and it keeps me awake. Changed shampoos several times thinking that was my problem. Then I saw the list of side effects and it could be this medicine. Feels like ants crawling on my skin during the day and at night. Been taking this since my open heart surgery in Jan 2015. Seems to be getting worse. Anyone have these side effects? ## Hello, Jules! How are you? This class of medications can cause those types of issues, due to the way they work on your circulation to lower blood pressure and improve heart function, as reported by the FDA. I used to experience it myself, when I was taking Candesartan. However, since you have had open heart surgery, there could be something else going on with your circulation that isn't re...

I have been taking metropolol 25 mg 2x/day for years. My tablet has been oval shaped with what looks like an "m" then a center score and a script looking "B" under that when the pill is held upright. My latest refill is round with "M 18" and the other side is center scored. Are these the identically same medices? It is so difficult with so many generic medicnes being white tablets. It is scary wondering if you get the same medicines. ## Hello, Diana! How are you? Sorry about the confusion and yes, you're right, it can be quite confusing. But yes, the tablet with the M 18 marking on it does contain 25mgs of Metoprolol, which is a beta blocker that's most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and some cardiac conditions. I am on Metoprolol Tartrate 25mg twice daily for the past month and I seem to be feeling weak on some days. It is prescribed to me for sinus tachycardia. Someone recommended that I start taking vitamins to help restore my energy levels. With that said, would it be safe to do so with this medication? I am thinking of taking a supplement containing Calcium 100mg, Magnesium 100mg & Potassium 15mg. ## There are no problems listed between using the vitamins with the Metoprolol, but you should check with your doctor first. Magnesium and Potassium can both have an effect on your heart and blood pressure, if they are too low, or too high, which means that in your case, a careful balance must be maintained. This, it would be best if your doctor did a blood test to check your levels of them, ...

I take a half a pill in the morning after breakfast and half after dinner. Is taking the half after dinner okay? ## It is, as long as your doctor approves and has told you to take 25mgs a day. In most cases, they prescribe it to be taken once a day, due to the fact that it makes more likely that someone will remember to take it and not miss doses. However, in some cases, it does work better for some people to take such medications in split doses. I found that I get much better control of my blood pressure and heart rate by spacing my doses throughout the day. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

Been taking metoprolol 25mg tartrate twice daily and by the time I go to bed and fall asleep by bloodpressure spikes during the night. Don't know if the meds have worn off during the night or if I should be taking another pill before bed. Tried to get a hold of my doctor but he is out on vacation. Does any one else have this same problem. I can tell my bp was high cause when I wake in the morning my eyes are blood shot. ## High blood pressure only rarely causes blood shot eyes, it is especially doubtful if it only happens when you are sleeping and goes away. There are a ton of other causes, however, including disrupted sleep. You shouldn't change this medication, without consulting with your doctor, because too much of it can cause unsafe drops in your blood pressure. Have you c...

Is Metoprolol Tartrate 25 mg tab drug ID white round with M 18 the same as Metroprolol tartrate 25 mg white round tab /1 the same medicine? One pill is twice as big as the other and I don't understand how they could be the same? ## Yes, it is also 25mgs of Metoprolol, a generic for Lopressor. The reason it is larger is more than likely just due to the types of fillers that manufacturer uses, they do have a wide variety they can pick from and they will affect the size of the tablets. Some of the most common side effects of this medication include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and diarrhea. You can read more about the medication here: Is there anything else I can help you with? ## where can I buy this?

I took Metoprolol tartrate tabs 50 mg,mfg by greenstone, is this the same drug? ## The 25mg would be a lower dosage and the ER designates the 25mg one as being a time released formulation. Metoprolol is a beta blocker used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions, Did your doctor make this change in the dosing and formulation? Such changes shouldn't be made, without your doctor's approval, because sudden changes to the dosing of this medication may cause rebound effects, which could include elevated heart rate and blood pressure.

I started Metoprolol Tartrate 25mg being one tab every 12 hours. I was in the hospital with a blood pressure of 200/130, sometimes higher with a high pulse and irregular heartbeat. I experienced tightening in chest, slight difficulity in breathing, and extreme variables in my pressures. Most of the time they are in the normal range, but occasionally my systolic has dropped under 100 and my diastolic was 58. I am monitoring my foods and am also taking Ativan twice daily. I am terrified. Anybody else have these variables in pressures? I have only been on the medicines for four weeks now. I have had diabetes and thyroid neg testing. I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder??? Never heard of it before. All my family including five siblings have high blood pressure as well. ## These types of vari...
