Are the alternatives safe, same side-effect, and would my doctor have to change the prescription with my supplier? ## Yes, they all pretty much have the possibility of causing the same side effects. I have been taking this drug every morning for several years now and my blood pressure is under control. Is it possible it is causing me to be quite lethargic 3 to 4 hours later or do I mark it up to my 76 years. Thanks ## It is very hard to say what might be causing it, in this case. Yes, it could be the medication itself, it could be age related, it could be your blood pressure going to low or several other health problems. Have you consulted your doctor about it? The highest possibility is probably age related, because you are going to be more sensitive to medications like this, so it may be making it drop a little too low. Doctors usually have to watch for this and make sure that they adjust your medication accordingly. Learn more:

I have been on Metoprolol ER TAB SUC 50 mg (75 mg in morning and 75 mg in evening) for a long time. These were round white pills with"M50" on one side and a score line on the other side. I understand the "ER" stands for Extended Release. When my prescription ran out, I contacted the pharmacy for a refill. Instead of sending me the same medication, they sent me a 3-month supply of Metoprolol TAB TAR 50 mg. These are round pink pills, a little smaller than the white pills. On one side they have a score line with "93" above the score line and "733" below the score line. The other side is plain, with no markings at all. I have been taking metoprolol 50mg twice a day. My new prescription is for metoprolol ER 50 mg once a day. Are they the same dosage or is this a reduced amount?? ## Which is the dosage you are asking about? You say 100mgs in the post title, but 50mgs in the post itself. Obviously going from 50mgs twice a day to 50mgs once a day would be a dosage adjustment, but the ER is an extended release formulation to try to enable you to get better blood pressure or cardiac control.

Dr. Reddy's metoprolol succ er. RUN AWAY! Or have your doctor change your prescription. I took Dr. Reddy's metoprolol because my new insurance wouldn't pay for the brand I had been taking for 5 years. 6 weeks of waking up everyday with red and swollen feet, achy left pectoral region, a 2x increase in my dress size, and a voracious appetite made me stop my use of it and pay out of pocket for the brand. Within 3 days of being on my old medication, Toprol XL , I was feeling like myself again. ## Hi stevie, Sorry to hear about your experience with Dr Reddy's.
