I'm taking a small dose that was prescribed due to a sudden A-fib situation. I am off any blood thinners other than aspirin and have cut the dose to about 2.5mg 2xs a day. My heart rate is upper 60s to mid 70s at rest. I only got to 130 one time while bowling during the day and it remains in the mid to upper 80s. I have noticed a reduction in libido and a weighted feeling in my lower legs. I've been on it for 8 months +- blood pressure is fine, a little discomfort from time to time in the stomach. Now I want to get off this, but how? ## At that low of a dosage, you can most likely just stop taking it, but you should only do so, if your doctor approves. If this is the only thing controlling your blood pressure, there is a risk of it soaring back up, if you stop it, according to t...

What should I do? I took 2 metoprolol 50mg but my dose is 1. My other meds are white and looked alike. ## It is always best to check with your doctor to be sure. Did you experience any adverse events? In most cases, doubling up just once isn't a huge problem, according to the FDA, but you may experience lower blood pressure and heart rate than usual, as well as nausea and dizziness. ## I missed my dose at 11pm but took it at 2am. Can i still take my metoprolol tartrate 25mg dose at 11 tonight? ## I've been taking Metoprolol 100 mg 1x daily and just found out that my pharmacy gave me 50mg pills which I've been taking 1x a day and only recently realized the mistake. What will happen when I start back on 100 mg tomorrow?

Hi, I have been taking Metoprolol 12mg daily. for palpitations. (this is only my thrid dose). I don't like the side effects, my heart rate was 53 last nite... I want to stop taking this med. How can I stop? Thank you. ## There are many people that have problems due to the side effects of this class of medications. That said, however, since you are taking it for such a serious condition, it is not advisable to just stop abruptly. It can cause a rebound effect that could make your palpitations worse. You should contact your doctor, immediately, regarding this matter. Have you tried getting in touch with your doctor, yet? ## I am on 100 mg per day of Metoprolol for borderline HBP. I've been on the med about six months, but the last month I've been experiencing non-stop heart pa...

I have white coat and anxiety. My doctor has had me on Metoprolol 100mg succinate once a day and just switched me to 100mg tartrate twice a day since my BP was high in his office. Is this dangerous or the dosage too high? Seems like a high dosage. ## Hello, Kera! How are you? What are your bp levels at other times? If it's really only high, when you're in the doctor's office, a medication isn't necessary. Even an ER won't treat for that, they will only do so if levels are dangerously elevated. As to the medication, it is actually safe in doses up to 450mgs a day. ## I take Lisinopril 10 mg a day and Metoprolol 100 mg at night. My blood pressure is still elevated around 150s/90s. My cardiologist has told me to double the Metoprolol to 100 mg a day. That seems like a l...

I was on Metoprolol XR for 6 months, the most consistent dose was 50 mg once/day. I had many of the common side effects - fatigue, headaches, muscle pain - but the most distressing has been the cold hands and feet along with an intense burning feeling along the nerves in my arms, legs and face. I tapered off over the last month I was on it, but the nerve pain seems worse. I have been completely off the med for only 3 days now. Has anyone experienced this? Does it get better or am I doomed? I'm only 33 with 2 young boys. I would like to be able to enjoy them! ## Hello, Melissa! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you had from this medication. Yes, if it was solely due to the Metoprolol, it should go away entirely, but it may take a couple of weeks to fully taper off. Th...

I take 25mg of metoprolol tartrate twice a day. I had already taken my usual dose in the am but for my evening dose accidentally took a double dose. Should I be worried? ## Hello, Glostixx! How are you? Did you suffer any adverse effects? That's not a dangerous dose to take, unless your blood pressure and heart rate is already low. But it could cause you to experience more side effects than normal, which the FDA lists as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain. It would be best to inform your doctor to be safe. ## I usually take 100 mg of Metoprolol succinate twice a day; 1 in the morning and one in the evening... I was on the phone and got sidetracked and forgot I had taken one and then took another. Is this dangerous? ## I think I may have taken two 50 mg m...

Does cutting metoprolol er 100 in half at the score have any effect on the extended release? ## To my understanding, cutting an extended release pill in half does have an effect on its time-release properties. I honestly don't know if this only pertains to "capsules" rather than "tablets", since they are different forms in and of themselves. Often times the score line does indicate that the pill can be divided in half, but unless your doctor gives you the ok, I would suggest playing it safe in either case. You may even want to talk to your doctor about lowering your dosage to 50mg Metoprolol succinate extended-release tablets. This way you can always take another dose without worrying about messing up the time-release properties. I hope this helps! Does anyone else k...

I have been taking toprol xl for a couple weeks because my heart rate keeps spiking out of nowhere, the doctor upped the dose and it's still happening. Had to get an ambulance today when my blood pressure got up to 150/102 heart rate 146. This happens very fast when it happens and I normally have a very low blood pressure. Around 98/70 range . Why does my heart rate and bp spike like this? I'm not doing anything but resting lately. ## Well, there are various things that could cause it, according to NIH reports, such as being sick, eating, taking in a lot of caffeine, or other medications. Generally, Toprol causes a lowered heart rate and blood pressure. Have you consulted a cardiologist? Are you on any other medications? What time of day is it spiking? ## m on mtoprolol succinat...

8/17/17 I've been taking 25mg of Atenolol 3xday for Afib, I have it often, have a pacemaker and on pradaxa (blood thinner). Apparently Atenolol is back-ordered all over the country. My cardiologist prescribed Metoprolol, only 25mg 1xday. I'm switching tomorrow and I'm concerned with enough dosage from Metoprolol. I have googled, can't locate equivalent dosage, can you help? ## It is generally better to follow your doctor's instructions as to what dosage you should take. Since these are in the same medication class, the doses are also sometimes the same. The FDA warns that the side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Have you started taking it, yet? If so, how are you doing?

ive been on this drug since nov. and have been feeling great. even decreased the dose to once a day. but for the last 2 months i have been feeling dizzy when i lay down. wondering if it's the drug or something totally not related. anyone else expierence this? a bit like vertigo. thanks cass ## It could be an orthostatic blood pressure change, meaning your BP is dropping too low when you lay down. What is your current daily dose? Have you spoken to your doctor about this? Once they got my BP down, the doses of medications I was on proved too strong and we've had to make several adjustments due to the dizziness when I lay down or stand up. ## Current dose is 25mg daily. Once a day. Doc says it might be an inner ear problem

I'm a 62 year old female. I accidentally took an overdose of my medicine. Should I be alright or seek professional help? ## Hello, Mildred! How are you? What are you describing as an overdose? Did you double your dose, triple your dose, or etc.? Did you experience any adverse effects. The FDA does warn that an overdose has the potential to be fatal and could cause lowered heart rate, lowered blood pressure and lowered rate of breathing.

The next day I stopped and my heart rate wad resting at 115 all day. By 6pm my bp was spiking at 170/100 and a heart rate of 130. I was prescribed MT 25mg twice daily by the ER doctor after 3 visits of increased heart rate. Was diagnosed with sinus tarchycardia. It has helped my episodes but my bp has dropped to 94/55. Due to me not having insurance, im not able to get an appt til Dec/Jan. I was wondering if its safe to half my doses because I can tell when its low & I can't keep going to the er. PLEASE REPLY SOON ## Tablets can be cut, or split, unless they are time released formulations and/or your doctor or pharmacist has instructed you otherwise. Are you having any symptoms from your BP being that low, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and etc? If not, then there is no reason to worry, because those aren't dangerous numbers and are nothing to worry about, unless they are causing problematic sym...

difference between diovan 320mg & metoprolol 50mg Will metoprolol do the same job ## The Diovan contains the active ingredient Valsartan, which is an ARB, while the Metoprolol is beta blocker and it usually takes a lower dose of it to achieve the same results. They both carry the risks of very similar side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, stomach pain and headache. You can learn more at the following links: They both are used to treat high blood pressure, but are different types of medications and work differently. Why has your doctor suggested the switch?

I was wondering if anyone is taking Metoprolol and CoQ10 together and if your blood pressure dropped too low? I want to start taking CoQ10 but afraid my BP will drop too low. I see there are different doses, 50ml, 100ml, and 200ml. I was thinking of starting out small and taking 50ml to see how my body adjusts. Any information will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance ## Hello, Rich! How are you? I didn't find any interactions or problems listed between them, but you should double check with your doctor or pharmacist to be sure. What are you usual blood pressure readings? ## Prob between 110/70 to 120/80. Pulse is usually between 55-60 BPM. My doc recommended I ask a pharmacist. Go figure. Lol. I did so and they said I can take it but be aware of any symptoms like dizziness, fa...

Metoprolol Tartrate low dose, but very TIGHT face, neck, head muscles, often coupled with NUMB face and jaw, for hours at a time, sometimes all day and night --- side effects due to the metoprolol? I'm also suffering from tight chest muscles, but often for just a half hour to an hour at a time and feeling that it's hard to breathe / shallow breath (but not sure if the muscle tightness is the cause of the breathing difficulty). Again, might these be side effects? NOTE: It's entirely possible that, instead, I'm simply suffering more and more from weird undiagnosable nerve problems, but I'm worried of course that it could be the medicine, not the condition. BTW, the med is very good at lowering my Blood Pressure. ## i was wndering if metoprolol could be the cause of my ...

I take a pill twice a day. Is each pill 50 mg, or combined they equal 50mg? ## Hi Connie, What is the imprint on the pills that you take? There are 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg pills available. Based on your description I can only assume that they are 50mg, but would need to look up the imprint for verification. If you are taking this medication for high blood pressure, the usual dosage for metoprolol is extremely patient specific and should be individualized. The typical initial dosage of metoprolol is 100 mg daily in a single or divided dose as determined by your health care provider. The dose may then be increased weekly until the goal blood pressure is achieved. The dosage range for metoprolol is 100-450 mg per day. You should consult with your doctor to determine which dose of metoprolol ...
