There was actually a recall on it back in May, so there has been a shortage. It would be better to ask your doctor to prescribe an alternative dosage or medication, for now. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of urination, and hypotension. I have been taking metoprolol tartrate 50 mg 2x a day for a while now, my doctor just told me to now start taking 2 tablets in the morning and 1 in the evening.
