I'm 16 and i've been taking Methylphenid for 10 years now i've been on 36mg and 54mg we've switched every now and then, I got put on it because i was very hyper as a child and now I take it for focus in school. Well recently i went to the doctor 8/14/12 and had it up'd to 54mg from 36mg, it's been 3 years since i up'd it. My 13 year old son has ADHD and was recently per-scribed the above med to replace one that was no longer working. I was under the impression that this drug does not build up in his system and because it is time release it would be completely out of his system in 12 hours or so. Because of the apatite suppression side effects I have not been giving him the meds on the weekends. I have been diagnosed with ADHD and Bi-polar disease. My Dr. gave me 2 different meds which are Apo-methylphenidate and Sandoz-Methylphenidate. What is the difference between these 2 meds and why are they giving me 2 different ones? ## They aren't different medications, they are both just Methylphenidate, APO and Sandoz just refers to the manufacturers. That said, Mikey, NO, it should actually cause the complete opposite, one of its most common side effects is INSOMNIA. Have you tried speaking to your doctor about this? My 5 year old son was givin methylin 5 mg it worked for about a month then stopped, we upped it to the 10mg extended release, he developed anger issues so we decided to go back down the the 5 mg the new script we were givin wasnt methylin 5 mg it's methylphenid 5 mg. my questions is, is that the same thing? ## Hi. Is this the generic for Ritalin LA 30 mg? This is what the pharmacy filled, but I thought it should be Methylphenidate LA 30 ## It is the same medication, the LA, and the E both stand for the same thing, which denotes it as being a long acting, or delayed release medication. You might see other abbreviations, as well, including XR, ER, CR, SR, but they all mean the same thing. Personally, I think it would be better if they had one standard abbreviation to designate a medication as being time released, but at this time, they do not. The FDA warns that Methylphenidate carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, nervousness, and anorexia. According to the manufacturer's guidelines, they also suggest taking 10 to 20mg orally 2 or 3 times daily; with a third dose to be only be taken if necessary (as in some patients, a lesser amount may still suffice). The dosing indications could be somewhat different for each individual, as well as those using sustained release tablets. So, in my opinion it's always important to verify this type of information with your doctor first. I have been taking Methylphenidate mps 20mg for the past few years and doing great. A couple of weeks ago I went up to get my refill but it wasn't the brand I was on. They told me at the pharmacy that it's the same thing. I was taking them but I am feeling weird along with an upset stomach. Headache. They gave me apo brand. Why is the price of methylphenidate so expensive now? My doctor informed me that it is dirt cheap, and is generic. I was diagnosed with ADD, and was informed it was a cheap drug since I could not afford health insurance. My memory and attention is poor.
