Methadone Withdrawal

Methadone is the worst drug. There are alternative ways to detox from opiates. I experienced cold turkey withdrawals after being on methadone for 12 years (90 mg. daily). Living hell. Severe withdrawals lasted two weeks, but less severe withdrawals lasted two months. Further withdrawals lasted for months. I couldn't think, walk, write... I was so miserable. If you are on Vicodin, Norco, etc., don't switch to Methadone. You have no idea what you're playing with. Trust someone who's been there (clean date: 2/1/2005) ## Hello, Caowens! How are you? I'm very sorry about what you've been through, but also congratulate you on sticking it out and becoming clean. Your post is very much appreciated, because many people do seem to see Methadone as a miracle drug, but they ...

Hi, I live in Salem, Oregon. Ive been on methadone for about 9 years now. recently my medication got seriously wet. Ill be 4 days short now on my meds because my new doctor is new and won't do an early refill. Ive withdrawn once in the past. Im really scared. Is there a way to lesson the withdrawals. Id like to not have to go through it at all ## Hello, Ellen! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. In the future, please store your medications in a location where they can't get wet. Most doctors, even if you aren't new to seeing them, will not provide an early refill. Their prescribing practices are very closely monitored by the government. Did you ask them about possibly cutting the tablets to lower your dosage for a few days? That might he...

Please help. My doctor had me on percoset 10/325 4 times a day. That was for over a year. Well I found out I was pregnant and the doctors promised me it was ok for me to take them. Well I started not taking as many cause I wanted to stop for my baby. I started getting sick and at first had no clue why. The doctor told me I was going thru withdrawel and I couldn't stop taking the meds while I was pregnant cause it could hurt me and the baby. Long story short they recommended me start methadone while I was pregnant. Well my baby was five weeks early they said more than likely it had nothing to do with the methadone. He was fine at first. He weighed 5 pds 6 oz. After a few days the nurses said he started showing signs of withdrawal. They started him on methadone. He was in that hospita...

I've been going to a methadone clinic for 3 weeks now. They had me on a 95mg dose. I was taking opiates before. I didnt want to go to the clinic today b.c i want off this junk.. will my withdrawals be bad? Some people have told me it wont be bad since ive only been going for a short period. Is that true!? ## Hello, Steph! How are you? 95mgs is still a fairly high dose and regardless of how long someone has been taking it, Methadone is notorious for causing bad withdrawals, thus I advise being very cautious. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. It may be best to speak to your treatment provider, they should be able to help you taper off....

Help and advice what has helped others. Support, so I'm not all alone. Hope that things will be better. And strength ## Hello, Faith! How are you doing? Is your doctor aware that you're stopping this medication? Please be careful, especially if you're going cold turkey, there can be a slight risk of seizures from the withdrawal, especially if you were on a very high dosage. You may also experience nausea, RLS, joint pain, diarrhea and insomnia. ## Ty, too sick to trxt right now, sorry ## Are you ok? Figure it out or still sick?? :(

I would like to know the best over the counter med to help with my methadone withdrawals and pain. I have little money no insurance and hurt like never before. I'm determined to be 100% clean. ## I hate to tell you this but nothing will stop your withdrawals from methadone. The only thing that may help you is ibuprofen for the fevers. I went to a physicians assistant who prescribed me gabapentin (which i am alergic to)and clonidine which only lowers your blood pressure. I am on 18 days without methadone 80mgs a day or more depending on the day and the withdrawals the first week and a half are pure hell!.... Hi there, this is for the people who are on methadone / or Suboxone. I've been on methadone for an opiate addiction, for a year now. My clean date is feb 2, 2015. At first, methadone was the best thing that had ever happened to me. I finally felt normal, and thought I was ready to get my life back on track. Well.. What a lie that was. I was at 75 mlgs of methadone from February 2015-August 2015, then started tapering off at 5 mlgs a week. I have a rapid metabolizer, so methadone never lasted longer than 10 hours in my system. Now I'm at 30 mlgs and I'm living in hell! I'm in constant withdrawal, body aches, sweating, hot /cold, emotional, aggressive... Etc. All I want is to feel normal again, but don't want to be tied on a leash to the methadone anymore! People say t...

Is the worst over with or do I have worse days ahead to look forward to?? ## Hello, Deckgirl! How are you doing? Yes, withdrawals and rebound effects may still be forthcoming. Methadone is notorious for causing such problems and it does tend to last in your body for quite awhile, after you stop taking it, so it's often a delayed effect. Learn more Methadone details here. It may not happen to you, though, there's no way to know for sure ahead of time. Have you consulted your doctor for assistance? ## i have been on methadone for 8 years and recently got in trouble for using benzos so they r doing a rapid deto...

Ive been battling the monster methadone for about 3 years now and I'm sick of it. I tapered down to 20mg a day and ran out. After trying elimodrol and withdrawal ease supplements and feeling OK for the first 2 days, I thought cool I will be OK. Hell no, day three my body told me that stuff ain't doing anything. I had a bottle of tramadol so I took about 250 mg and after 30 min I noticed I was sitting still and not wanting to jump out of my skin. WOW. So now I've been doing the same for 4 days and still alright. Is it too good to be true? Am I just trading one for the other or can it really help? I am sole provider of my wife and two young kids, so missing alot of work to go detox is out of the question. And cold turkey I can't handle right now. Anyone been here before?, ...

Hi, I was on Methadone for 15 years. For the past 2 years they slowly tapered me because I did not want to feel any withdrawals. They got me all the way down to 3 mg, and I stopped going. Well that was 30 days ago and I'm still going through withdrawals. They are not severe, insomnia, anxiety, diarrhea, cold chills. My question is how 2 stop it? I just want to feel normal again. ## Hi, Tamara! Sorry about the problems you're having. However, that is one very big issue with Methadone, it tends to cause withdrawals and cravings for a very long period of time, that's why most people never completely get off of it and end up requiring a lifetime maintenance dose. Thus, I'm afraid there's no way to know for sure when the symptoms you're having will stop, or if they wi...

So I've been taking methadone for 8 months now. My peak dose was 70mg, but I've been weaning off of it for several weeks with the goal of getting off of it entirely. This past week, I dropped down to 5mg and my body went into full withdrawal. I honestly think that the dose is so low that it's pretty much just waste that my body doesn't absorb. I called my clinic and asked if I could come in and switch to subutex. They told me that even though I'm only on 5mg, they won't take the risk of putting me on it until I've stopped taking it for three days even though I'm only on 5mg. The withdrawals are terrible and it's like I'm not even taking anything. I thought that if you're in full withdrawal then it is safe to switch to subutex. Anyway, when my ...

I take 100mgs of methadone every day for the past 12 years. I ran out of methadone and can't go to my Dr for 2 days. Will OxyContin 20mg help with the methadone withdrawal? If anyone knows please let me know. ## Hello John. No it will not. I have been on methadone for over 30 years, been there done that. You say you have 2 more days to go to see your Dr. Well, as you know, methadone is a long acting medication. You would be fine the first day, especially taking 100mgs. Without it, you might not feel your best, but won't withdraw. But the second day you may start to get sick. You could try to take it for the second day. Everyone is different. It may take the edge off of feeling sick and your pain, but does your Dr do drug urinalysis? Because if he does and you take the oxycontin ...

I was on methadone for six years, it has been 19 days sent I have stopped taking my 95 mg a day. I have never felt so sick. I can not walk without it feeling so bad. I hope to be better someday. I want to know how long. ## That is a rather high dosage to stop cold turkey. Methadone is usually tapered, to try to minimize the withdrawal effects. They can be very bad, which is why many people end up on a lifetime maintenance dose and never entirely get off the drug. Some things you may experience can include: nausea, dizziness, chills and diarrhea. The withdrawals can usually last about a month, they should slowly improve as the drug is processed out of your system and your body gets used to not having it. How are you doing, now? ## Well...why on earth would you do such a thing? Methadone ...

I am trying to do a rapid detox but I am decreasing 5mg every 3 days, I am at 20mg now, I was at 40, when I started 8 years ago I was at 180mg! I am starting to really feel the effects and I wanted to know if anyone had any advice on anything that could help me get through this because this is my second attempt, I failed the first time, I never got past 25mg, well I hit 20mg for 1 day. PLEASE let me know of anything that may help....thank you very much.... ## Hello, Margie! How are you doing? Methadone is high addictive and very, very hard to detox from. A rapid detox is likely a bad idea and most likely why it didn't work the first time. Most people never get off of Methadone and require a maintenance dose for life, the few that are successful do so only with medical help and a ver...

I have been on Methadone for about 3 years for long term pain management and the stomach issues are awful. I went from 30 to 10 two years ago and have now been 3 days on 7.5 with no withdrawals yet. When will they start? I have clonidine and Ativan from the doctor to help, but I have a 3 day conference in July 7-9 and need to be pain free at 7.5 by then. Then I will take the last 2 weeks of summer to get to 5 mg. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? I'm sorry, but there's no definitive time frame that I can give you in response. It can vary from person to person. Have you experienced any, yet? The FDA lists the typical withdrawal symptoms as possibly including nausea, diarrhea, fever, chills and rebound pain. Can anyone that's taken it give an approximate time frame that may help? #...

I have been taking 56 mg of methadone every other day I would like to know if 3 8mg Suboxone would help with withdrawal. I know that I have to wait at least three days and in withdrawal before I take the Suboxone. I would like to know if this is going to help me. I am a single mother 36 years old and a full-time college student, I was sober for 4 1/2 years and had an fortunate relapse this is why I started at the methadone clinic in the first place. My new semester starts in a month and I want to be free and clear of this, my question is will the 3 8mg Suboxone and help me so I will not be sick? Trying to avoid horrible opioid WD... I wanted to know if taking Librium for 3 days will help and if taking 20mg of methadone at the same time as Librium for only 3 days will give me WD from methadone? ## Be VERY careful when mixing Benzos (Librium) with methadone. My clinic specifically asked me if I was prescribed anyou Benzos before they would start me on methadone due to the severe drug interaction between the two. The combination of both depress your respiratory system and your central nervous system. There's been several documented deaths where people took both sometime during the day, went to bed, and never woke up again. I would definitely advise against using both at the same time unless you're under 24 hour medical surveillance, i.e., in a hospital setting.

I was on 120 mg of methadone for 8 years straight with no relapse, so I decided to quit it. I got down to 110mg and had the weekend take home so i have been taking half of a half of 5mg and now I'm out. That was 1 week ago and yesterday when i ran out of the 5 mg I started to feel sick. I don't want to go on suboxone or subutex. I was told a doctor could prescribe Adderall for focus and Xanax for stress but I can't seem to find a doctor who will help. Hello all. I am seeking advice for either home remedies to help alleviate some of the symptoms of withdrawal as you taper off methadone, or any and all suggestions about how to go about reducing the dosage and cravings. My boyfriend has been on methadone for 3 years. At first it was a 105 mg dosage just a substitute to get his fix instead of using. Now, he is really trying to get clean and slowly get off methadone. He's been on 30 mg for (from what I can recall) 6 months. About a month ago, he tapered down to 25 mg. He takes 10 mg pills and we are cutting them into fourths and halves. He tried to go down to 23 mg, but he has had a hard time with his nights - joint pain, muscle spasms, cravings, etc. So now he is a little reluctant to continue to go down. Does anyone have suggestions...
