My mother was prescribed methadone for her Neuropathy while living in Florida. Since then she has moved back to Michigan by necessity. She left her job to move to Georgia with her husband who was a military vet. He got OxyContin from the V.A. Hospital in Atlanta for his back issues. With her having no insurance he used to share with her. Now he's dead and we moved her back here to Michigan. She still has no insurance except Medicare A&B. she's almost out of meds and the pain she will experience is excruciating. I am on 58 mg of Methadone and I have been on it for a year. It does not help with pain for me, and I did this on my own to see if it would help me. I was taking 4 mg of Hydromorphone for pain before. Now I want off the Methadone but my doctor is telling me I have to go to a non opioid pain clinic for pain. What is that??? My mom is 66. She's been on 20 MG of methadone for 3 yrs for degenerative disc disease, she's also been in a bad car wreck AND hit by a truck while walking across the street (10 yrs ago) so she's got many sources of pain. Her doctor isn't comfortable raising her dosage because of the rigid methadone rules (his words). We are now seeking a new doctor who can help her. As a result I have cronic headaches. I also have 4 collapsed disks in my back from riding motorcross for years. I cant take subutex of any form because I'm allergic to it, and I was on methadone for the four yrs about. But both the doctors are retired.
