I'm to start prednisone 20 mg today and go down. Now I'm on 40 mg methadone. Should I spread it out cause I'm seeing different posts about it messing with the methadone. I won't get sick will I? ## Hello, Julie! How are you? Yes, Prednisone may reduce the efficacy of your Methadone, so you may experience some withdrawal effects, according to the FDA, they may include nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea and rebound pain. Separating them by a few hours might help, but isn't likely to change much. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I thank you for getting back to me. I have not had any problems with the two except headache and some diarrhea but that's gone. ## How do you know this?

How can I tell if Methadone Is affecting my heart and what other symptoms would i have if i've taken too much? I was just put 10mg 4 times a day but not doing much and am scared to increase the dose, so any info would be great. ## The noticeable symptoms would most likely including your starting to feel very dizzy, drowsy, fatigued and maybe like it's hard to breathe or get air. Learn more overdose details here. How long have you been taking it? It may take a short while for it to really reach its full effect in your body, so increasing it without medical approval wouldn't be advisable. ## i have just started this drug on the 24th and have read all bad new about it. i took a 20mg last night around 9 and about 30 min latter i felt my heart raceing out of were for like 60 seco...

I've been on methadone due to cp for the last 9 years, presently taking 120mg. daily. My current pm has adopted a new "NO METHADONE" policy and he will be weaning me off while placing me on some other medication. the problem is i've been on just about every other pain med.I'm 55 years old and don't play games i never failed a ua or refused any procedures. He said the office is no longer going to assume the responsibility of prescribing the methadone. Does any one know of a doctor in the Floyd area of Va. I've had the shots and every other therapy and surgery is not an option due to the affected area of my back that is injured is too large to repair all i can try to do is control the pain. Thank you for any help, Tim ## Hi Tim, I located a few Doctors that are...

When I opened my pill bottle I accidently dropped quite a few of my methadone pills in the bathroom sink and they got all wet. Will this affect the potency of the pills? Thank you ## In a way, it could, because these is the possibility that they started to dissolve, so some of the medication was lost. However, unless they sat wet and were allowed to dissolve for a long time, the change should be minimal. Most tablets have a thin coating on the outside, even if they don't seem to when you look at them or feel them and the moisture may not have even made it past that coating. When you look at them, is it noticeable that they have been wet? If not, then you probably have nothing to worry about. Most tablets just don't dissolve as fast in water as they do in the acidic environment o...

Hello. I'm an addict in recovery, using the methadone maintenance as the way to wean off opiates. I currently take 1 95mg dose (methadone) in the morning, and I'm weaning down 2mg/month. I also have spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease and major lumbar pain. I take only Aleve for pain, as I'm told the methadone will not help me because I only take 1 single dose/day and not for pain management. I have had 2 surgeries on my back. A simple laminectomy, but my 2nd surgery was spinal fusion surgery. I have a metal cage in my lower back, but now; I need a 3rd surgery to repair the discs higher on my spine, as all the pain has returned and my very well-respected doctor highly suggests this. He ordered a series of steroidal epidural shots in my back. I did the 1st round of sho...

I'm on 108 mgs of methadone and 3mg's a day of klonapin. I want to start to take addium but don't know if they will mix without any side affects. ## From what I could gather, Addium reportedly contains the following set of ingredients: Caffeine GABA Bacopa Monnieri Alpha GPC L-Theanine Phosphatidylserine L-Tyrosine Vinpocetine Huperzine A According to umm.edu, there ARE drug interactions between Caffeine and Klonopin, stating that Caffeine may inhibit the effects of Klonopin, causing it to not work as well. They also go on to note that taking Klonopin with Methadone can result in serious side effects, such as dizziness, confusion, lack of coordination, excessive tiredness, etc. Outside of that, Phosphatidylserine + L-Tyrosine do not list any interactions with Methadone or Kl...

I take 70mgs of methadone daily. I’ve been experiencing toothaches but it is unbearable right now. I have a Dilaudid 8mg here. If I take that now at 11 pm, will that affect my methadone dose tomorrow? Will it counteract my methadone or will my dose still work as accurately as any other day? I usually get my dose after lunch. ## Hello, Leslie! How are you? There is a chance that the Dilaudid may not work, since you are on the Methadone. The NIH warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Are you on any other medications?

my dr just started me on pristiq today . i am also on 43 mlg of methadone are these meds safe to take together? ## My findings state that there are potentially unsafe interactions between these two drugs. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "Using methadone together with desvenlafaxine (pristiq) may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until you know how the medications affect you. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medica...

Is it dangerous to mix methadone & ciprofloxacin, & if so what would be the percentage rate of those who could be affected??? ## This combination of medications is actually not recommended, because the additive effects may cause QT prolongation and cardiac arrhythmia. There are no specifics on a percentage rate of how many people might be affected, however, if this has made it into the drug warnings, then a pretty high number of people had to have experienced it. Has your doctor advised you to take them both?

Since the drug companies had taken propoxyphene (darvocet ) off the market & my Merck Manuel read that methadone had the same chemical structure, my Dr. Had agreed to let me try methadone in a very small amount for my severe spinal pain. There was nothing left for me or most all older people to try without mental & horrible physical side affect until I started with 1/4 of 10 mg methadone 2 X a day for the 1st yr. After 5 yrs, I am on 20 mg a day & it controls my pain w/ no side effects similar to darvocet. The only generic I would settle for was the mallinckrodt generic as it was better in my opinion than ROXANNE. Then one day I went to pick up my Rx & all they could order was a new brand called Ascend. I called all 12 pharmacies in my whole county & no one has anyth...

I really need too know how is it possible to get addicted to methadone?i thought it didnt give you a euorphic effect! I am worried and need too know what too watch for since im taking it longterm for severe pain. I havnt been taking it much cuz ive dealt with addiction before, but I know at this point its the only solution I have left! please help, what are the signs and symptons I need too watch for? ## Just like any other drug, Methadone can affect everyone differently, so some people may get euphoria from it, which could encourage them to abuse it. And Methadone is very well known to be habit forming, even in people that don't abuse it and only use it exactly as prescribed. This is actually called dependence, not addiction and it can occur with anything that you ingest regularly on...

Copper deficiency is causing aneurysms, herniated discs, hemorrhoids, high cholesterol, and emphysema, and these diseases are among the most destructive, painful, and numerous diseases in our society. Slipped or herniated discs are estimated to cost 200 billion dollars directly and indirectly each year in the USA alone [futuremedicine.com/doi/pdf/10.2217/14750708.4.1.51]. Four to six of 100 Americans autopsied died of a ruptured aneurysm. 3.6 to 6 percent of those examined had non ruptured brain aneurysms [Renkel]. Each year, 16,000 Americans die due to a ruptured aortic aneurysm. Of the 200,000 strokes that occur each year in the USA, 20% are aneurysms in the brain. I suspect that copper deficiency status is the most important parameter affecting them. For instance, aneurysms are produ...

I'm coming off of years of benzodiazepine abuse. My methadone doesn't even affect me now. I shake as if I'm an alcoholic. I have been feeling isolated and hopeless. ## Unfortunately, since Methadone is an opioid, it doesn't always help with the withdrawals from Benzodiazepines. I am very sorry that you're miserable. How are you coming off of the Benzodiazepines? Are you tapering slowly? Coming off too fast creates the risk of your experiencing seizures, anxiety, and depression, which would be dangerous, so it is very important to taper slowly, under medical supervision.

After taking 98 mg of methadone for the past 9 yrs, is it possible 2 switch 2 suboxone? My body was significantly abused when i was out there, lots of back injuries, no pain w/ methadone. Does suboxone do this also? I work a very physical job. ## I would definitely see a dr.... that's a high dose, it stays in your muscles and can affect your heart (it's a muscle); I thought well I can do this 3.5 yrs for pain control. I was on everything under the sun. I lost 2 yrs, no memories from all the combos, 6 spine surgeries, 4 in 7 mo.... gave up all meds and started inj's. inside joints which didn't help. Then after 15 yrs hear of nerve burns similar to the blocks but they actually go in with needles n burn your nerves; wonderful great mostly pain free. Got rid of all drugs exc...

i take 65 mg of methadone and i have an infection of parasites. i would like to to take diatomaceous earth without getting withdrawels is that possible ## Hello, Chris! How are you? How do you know you have a parasitic infection? Additionally, even if you do, diatomaceous earth isn't proven to eradicate them and I am unable to find any information on how it would affect Methadone. Have you consulted your doctor regarding this? The FDA lists Methadone as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I just moved to Idaho from California. I am on methadone for degenerative disc disease. And have been on it for 8years. A pain team with Kaiser Permanente put me on it.. well this was an unexpected move. . I got on Idaho medicaid and they assigned me to a health clinic(after i didn't choose one because of everything going on)well the clinic has a policy that they dont prescribe anything over the equivalent of 120Mg morphine.. they wont fill my script! I live in the Boise area... Any suggestions? ## I don't think most of us realize that taking opioids for long periods can also cause pain because your body is asking for more and (causing issues with other parts of your body without you recognizing it and has a terrible affect on your mind) not taking on time can be painful as well...

I am on methadone but have bad period pains. Does taking ibuprofen act with or against the methadone and will it affect the lab work that I have to submit? ## Unfortunately there is not much information out there on this topic, but I can tell you with absolute certainty from experience that you should not take ibuprofen or any NSAID with methadone ever. The problem is that it will knock the bonded methadone particles off of your blood proteins, thus raising the amount of freely available negative methadone in the blood stream, causing overdose risk for low dose users, and emptying your buffer for maintenance methadone users which will destabilize you making you feel withdrawal symptoms much sooner, and cause the buffer to have to rebuild over the course of a few days. If you need some o...

I take 70mg of methadone every morning as maintenance to stay off of H. Sometimes I get tired and want to take a nap and there have been a few times that I have taken a nap in the past. Those few times when I woke up I felt like I had not had any methadone that day. Does methadone wear off when I go to sleep and why does it feel like I haven't had any even if I take a nap only 2 hours after taking it? ## Hello, Chrissy! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. No, it shouldn't do that. Did you take any other medications at that time? Did you do anything else different? Does anyone know more about this? I've heard of other medications affecting it, but not sleeping. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may c...
