I just got my RX for metformin Hcl 500 mg. tablets. I am confused as to when is the best time of day for me to take it. Should I take it in the morning, or, at night before bed? Do I need to take it on an empty stomach, or, with food? ## Ideally, it should usually be taken in the morning, just before a meal, that way it has time to start working to help lower your blood sugar by the time your body starts digesting your meal. Learn more Metformin details here. Didn't your doctor or pharmacist provide any instructions? ## My Dr. said to take it in the morning, but, the printout that comes with prescriptions said to take with dinner. So, I was confused. It makes more since to take it in the A.M. Thanx for your input.

I take 2 tablets in the morning at breakfast and 2 tablets at dinner time. I was advised recently to test my sugar 2 hours after each meal for beakfast, lunch and dinner. They said it should be under 140. I can not get under 141 after breakfast, it is usually around 220. Two hours after lunch it is usually below 140, even though i do not take any tablets at lunch. I have tried taking the tablets 1 hour before i eat breakfast and the results are closer to 140. The only time i show bad results is at breakfast. Can you explain whe i should take the tablets? I picked up my rx metformin from a pharmacy with my prescription but got metfortic 500 instead. Can anyone tell if this is fake or real? ## Hi Taz, If you picked these up from a licensed pharmacy with a valid prescription, then yes, they are real. However, being "real" does not necessarily equate to something being "effective", and often times patients who receive a lesser effective medication are quick to call it fake or counterfeit, when in reality it may just be certain fillers that inhibit optimal bioavailability. Nevertheless, if something doesn't seem right about your prescription then you should contact the pharmacy you got it filled at just to be on the safe side. "Metfortic 500" is something I've never heard of (nor can I find info on Google - so...

I take metformin er. I see it in my poop later in the day. I have a lot of diarrha. ## HI, Paty! How are you? Diarrhea is a normal side effect that can happen when taking Metformin. If it's very severe and occurring too frequently, then you should speak to your doctor about it, your medication may need to be adjusted. As to seeing the tablet in your stool, that is also normal. They use a special release mechanism that's similar to a sponge, it slowly releases the medication into your body by gradually absorbing minuscule amounts of your stomach acid. Once done, the outer shell of the tablet is then expelled as waste. Learn more Metformin ER details here. Please note that this mechanism...
