metformin smells ## Yes, Metformin is well known to have an odor and it can vary, somewhat, from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some of them seem to smell like old fish and others like dirty sweaty socks. It really doesn't make it a very appealing medication to use and it has so nauseated some people, that they were forced to quit using it. The odor is especially prominent in the new instant release versions of the medication. Is there anything else I can help you with? ## My Metformin has a distinct grape smell. Its not unpleasant at all *smiles ## That's good to know because mine smells and tastes like grape also. I was concerned that the drug had been altered accidentally in some way. I really like the grape taste compared to what is was before!!

why does it smell like fish? ## I got my script refilled the other day and the new one smells like fish too! My first bottle (different manufact) did not smell like fish. Beginning to wonder if it is of good quaility ## It is an odor from one of the fillers they use in making the medication, nothing to worry about. Since each company that makes the generic version of med can use different fillers, then some might have the odor and some won't. ## Yes, it is too something to worry about! With all the horrible cheap fillers being used these days by money grubbing foreign countrues - killing our animals and probably us too. The brand I got from Walgreens is fine - even old pills dont take on a smell. But the cheap kind sold by Walmart and as I know of, Strogers hospital in chicago smell...

white,oval,48 on one side 93 on other side. Is not scored, made by Teva. Can I cut in half? I've not used this brand before. It doesn't have the taste of usual tablet made by APOT. ## my metformin by teva smells and taste like a dead mouse, ## I had the dead mouse and the major fish. I stopped because of stomach pain from the chinese manu that seemed to win all the local contracts. High A1C as a result of these games. ## To clear up some things asked about or mentioned in these posts… No, it is not safe to cut any tablet that is time released, as denoted by the ER in the first post. Doing say may result in your getting too much of the medication, at once, which could lead to overdose. However, the tablet made by Teva with the 93 48 marking is not a time release...

I have just started this along with my usual rx for metformin 500 and the Dr. also started me on Byetta 10, I am having severe bloating and gas and it all smells like chemicals . can anyone tell me if this is normal? I have been nauseated also. Today is my 4th day of these new rx's. ## It is hard to say for sure, drugs will act differently for different people, most side effects though, do wear off after a few weeks of use, after your body adjusts to the new medication. You just started a few days ago, so you sould probably give it more time and see if it starts to taper off. If they get worse, or are particularly bothersome, then please speak to your doctor.

I've been taking metformin 500 mg tabs for 2yrs and this is the 1st time I've received a pill with 397 on one side and blank on other and it smells really bad. Never had any metformin smell! Is this really metformin? ## HI, Kimie! How are you? Yes, the round, white tablet with 397 on it contains 500mgs of Metformin. And to be honest, if you've never had one where you had to smell that awful odor before, you were very fortunate. That is completely normal and very disgusting. Learn more Metformin details here. Is there anything else I can help with?
