Have you consulted your doctor? There may be something you can take to help with the issue. How are you doing? It is normal to experience side effects, when you first start taking a medication, because your body needs to get used to it. Are the Metformin 500 mg tab Sandoz used to control high blood sugar? ## Hello, Based on my research, Metformin belongs to the class of medications called "oral hypoglycemics", which are medications that lower blood sugar. It is used to control blood glucose (blood sugar) for people with type 2 diabetes. It is used when diet, exercise, and weight reduction have not been found to lower blood glucose well enough on their own. Metformin works by reducing the amount of glucose made by the liver and by making it easier for glucose to enter into the tissues of the body. Metformin has been found to be especially useful in delaying problems associated with diabetes for overweight people with diabetes. NOTE: studies have proved that a low fat raw vegan diet can reverse and cure diabetes ...

I was recently switched from Glyburid-Metformin to Metformin HCL 500 MG - I have been experiencing frequent migrane headaches (daily) and have put on over 5 lbs in 2 weeks. Also my blood sugar numbers are higher especially in the morning. Only benefit is that there have been no more low readings. ## Have you consulted your doctor? Suddenly stopping any medication that you've been taking for a long period of time may result in some withdrawal and rebound effects, which may explain your symptoms, but you should talk to your doctor about it, to be certain. Has there been any improvement, yet? ## I switched back two days ago. Headaches still happening but not nearly as severe. Low sugar reading happened once.

Is two 500 hcl metformin the same as 1000 er ## Hi tam, Not entirely. While the dosage certainly adds up to 1000mg, there is still a big difference between immediate release formulas and extended (time-released) formulas. The time-released tablets are more geared towards 24 hour - around the clock pain relief; while the standard immediate release tabs are said to be more ideal for short term pain management patients. Whether you take 500mg or 1000mg of Metformin, the time-release effect will always outlast the immediate release effect in terms of longer pain relief (although some patients claim the immediate release formula to have a stronger effect, since it hits you all at once, per say). I hope this explanation helps! ## Only if they are also time released, since you listed ER by the...

I regularly take Fortamet 500 mg ER and about 3 years ago tried the lesser expensive Metformin 500 mg ER. The Metformin did not work nearly as well as Fortamet. 1) Why would that be? 2) Are there assistance programs to help offset the high cost of the brand Fortamet? Thank you! ## Hello, Lindy! How are you? There are some generics that are osmotic, this means that precise testing and formulating is done to ensure that they match very closely with the name brand, but that does not apply to all of them. Basically the cheaper a generic gets, the more leeway is taken, thus you may have gotten one that was still time released, but had enough differences to keep it from working well for you, especially if your body was used to the name brand. And unfortunately, I am not finding any assistance...

I am non diabetic but obese 48-year-old female. My doctor gave me Glucomet 500 mg half tablet morning and half tablet in the night for weight reduction. Is it safe for a non diabetic to take diabetic medicine? ## HI, Malathi! Yes, it's safe as long as your doctor is going to be supervising you regularly. When it's used in such cases, it's due to your doctor suspecting that you may be insulin resistant, thus an antidiabetic medication may help improve your situation and enable you to lose weight. You may experience some side effects from it, such as nausea, headache and flatulence. Is there anything else I can help with?

I think the metformin HCL 1000 mg ER is too much for me. It made me sick to the point i couldnt function. So i started taking half the dosage. 500 mg per day. I cut the pill in 2 and take a half per day. Will this hurt me? ## Hello, Sally! How are you? This is a time released medication, so it should not be cut, that could cause you to get too much of the medication at once. If you have issues taking the higher dose, your doctor can prescribe a 500mg dosage for you to try. What are you current blood sugar readings? If, at a later time, your blood sugar level has come down and is doing better, your dosage can be lowered, or if this dosage doesn't work, it can be raised even higher or other medications added.
