why do people post such important and subject themselves to a potential medical situation- why not just pick up the phone and call YOUR DR. or GO THE PHARMACY AND ASK THEM! Really people!- ## @romine, Well I can't speak for everyone, but I do know that some questions of this nature don't necessarily need to be answered by a doctor specifically. For example, if there is a score line on your pill then it's usually safe to be cut in half, since that's what it's intended for. In the case that there's no dividing line, then it certainly would be a good idea to contact your doctor or pharmacy first and foremost (especially if they are time-released tablets). And even then, not all medical professionals know how a drug is going to end up effecting you until you start ta...

I think the metformin HCL 1000 mg ER is too much for me. It made me sick to the point i couldnt function. So i started taking half the dosage. 500 mg per day. I cut the pill in 2 and take a half per day. Will this hurt me? ## Hello, Sally! How are you? This is a time released medication, so it should not be cut, that could cause you to get too much of the medication at once. If you have issues taking the higher dose, your doctor can prescribe a 500mg dosage for you to try. What are you current blood sugar readings? The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, flatulence, abdominal pain and diarrhea. ## Are you on any other medications? Hi. I have been on metformin 500mg twice a day for about 4 months. I m a 52 year old male, non diabetic taking the drug for its life extension properties. Here's my issue. Recent blood work indicated my glucose level is now 60 (it has always been normal before). My seasonal Dr. in Florida advised me to reduce the dosage to 500mg once a day, at night only. Im aware that the effective dose is at least 1500mg. per day. I showed my blood results to my regular Dr who said that 60 is not a "significant value" (and that metformin is not known to cause hypoglycemia) and he advised that I could up the dose to 1000mg, twice per day. Obviously I'm confused. Both of these docs have great reputations. Any help would be greatly appreciated. ## Hello, Fred! How are you? So far, there h...

I am taking metformin 1000mg twice a day. what should be the time interval between two takes? ## Hello, Peter! How are you? Usually, it's taken just before a meal to help control blood sugar levels and, in most cases, that would be breakfast and dinner. However, what has your doctor advised? Did they give you any specific instructions? ## Hi, then what about lunch? I was told by my doctor to take it in the morning with breakfast and in the evening with dinner. However, I eat a heavier lunch than breakfast and wonder if I should take the first one at lunch rather than breakfast. I take Metformin 1000mg HCL. Is this extended release or just regular? Thank you for your time and advice.

Has anyone noticed a reduction in allergies when taking Metformin? Since starting the tablet 18 months ago (I was on 1000mg slow release) I have not needed to take anti-histamines. I even had a severe allergy to cats that also disappeared. Lately I have had diarrheoa which has been attributed to the Metformin and so I stopped taking it. Allergies have returned. Has anyone noticed this connection? ## Hello, Ruth! How are you doing? If you have diabetes, you can't just stop taking this medication, that will allow your blood sugar to get out of control, again. It is normal for problems to be more prevalent, when one has a health condition that is out of control. Your body only has a limited number of resources to use to fight any one thing, so it prioritizes, elevated blood sugar is mo...
