cephalexin cap 500 mg #294/294. is this the same as cephalexin for people ## Hi, Jean! How are you? And yes, since it is a medication that's used in both, there's no need to manufacturer a separate supply for veterinary use, so the same ones used by your vet are what you may receive from your pharmacy. Learn more Cephalexin details here. With the high safety and quality standards required by the FDA, it is safe for some medications manufactured for people to be used in our pets. However, the obverse is not true, since those manufactured specifically for animals are not so strictly controlled. Is there anything else I can help with?

Is the main concern with application site the issue of transfer to other surfaces/people/pets etc? I'm having to switch to Foresta from Androgel, and my preferred site for Androgel was the chest/abdomen area, which worked well (verified by blood levels). Fortesta seems to take longer to dry and is irritating my thigh a little, and if transfer is the only issue, I'd like to try it on the chest; I can manage the transfer issue. ## Hello, Brad! How are you? That risk is the only reason they list, but you should double check with your doctor, in case there may be some other issue at play. Learn more Fortesta details here. Is there anything else I can help with?

my dog is on Purbac for a skin infection, can i give him Petscam at the same time? ## @Phillip, I haven't come across any medications under the name "Petscam". The name is just so broad that my results are even bringing up pet owners who've previously been scammed. Lol! Would you happen to have the packaging in hand to help determine which ingredients are in Petscam? Also, Purbac (Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim) is a very powerful antibiotic that carries many side effects. So I would also recommend talking to your vet about this before making the final decision on whether or not you should combine it with another medication. I hope this helps! ## Thank you David,I took your advice and spoke to the vet who precribed the Purbac. He said to finish the course then I can sta...

For those owners in the unenviable position of needing Tussigon for their pets chronic cough: as a veterinary specialist in canine and feline practice, let me say we vets would LOVE to be able to dispense this med to your pets since it is highly effective BUT 1) the drug is essentially now unavailable even to pharmacies at the veterinary teaching hospitals; and 2) the DEA in its "wisdom" has decided to make this drug a Schedule II drug (eg. morphine) because of perceived increase in human abuse. ## @FrustratedCareGiver, Thank you for the heads up on Tussigon's availability. It looks like those pet owners will have to resort to other forms of treatment for their pet's chronic coughing. I wonder though, what would be the next best alternative that patients will have access...

Don't use Frontline or Advantage from everything I've read these two are Very TOXIC to your pets ## @jri, Thanks for the heads up on which flea products to avoid. It's a shame how many of these manufacturers get away with putting such toxic substances into products that go directly on the cat thinking it wont do any harm, with pet owners left in the dark about their safety. Seems the only way to know is to research each and every ingredient ourselves, because now these companies (and probably others as well) can't ever be trusted with their misleading marketing schemes. Do you happen to know the names of the specific chemical compounds they use, so we can be on the look out for any other products that contain these same ingredients?

I've had insomnia for 13 years. Very sleep depraved and extreme fatigue/depression. I sometimes take 5mg of generic ambien BUT I experience HORRID NIGHTMARES! Very realistic and life threatening situations of myself and/or one of my pets! It is a terrible feeling but I do get 6+hours of sleep. Wish there was something without the side effect of nightmares (always occurring in the early morning hours). ## Hello, Cameo! How are you? What else have you tried for your insomnia? After having similar problems with most such medications, including daytime hangover like effects, I actually finally found a solution by taking Benadryl with a Tylenol tablet at night, though there are generic/store brands available, plus combination products that contain both. You'd need to get your doctor...

can my dog take doxycyclLXHF ## To answer your question, yes, Doxycycline (for dogs) is a broad spectrum antibiotic that kills different types of bacterial infections in pets. It’s a prescription medication that’s commonly administered to dogs suffering from Lyme disease and Chlamydia. In addition to this, vets often prescribe doxycycline to treat urinary tract infections and certain medical conditions like the Rocky Mountain spotted fever. As far as dosing goes, the guidelines state that dogs should be given 2mg to 5mg of the drug, per pound of body weight every 12 hours or 24 hours. However the dosage and duration of treatment depend upon the type of infection your dog is suffering from. And although it isn’t necessary to give t...

My husband just accidentally gave our dog tussigon and tramadol at the same time. Should I be concerned? ## I wish I had an answer for you and everyone else that posts questions about their pets. However, human and animal physiology can be quite different, thus my knowledge and/or what I can research for someone about the effects of given medications and their uses in humans, may not apply to your dog. I am always happy to help, if I can, just like others that frequent this website, but it would be remiss of anyone to do so, without knowing the proper information to give you. Therefore, I must advise you to call your veterinarian and ask. How is your furry friend doing?
