Around 7pm today I started experiencing UTI like symptoms. This time last year, 2/15/16, I was also treated for a UTI and was prescribed phenazopyridine and sulfamethoxazole. I was waiting an hour while drinking glasses and glasses of water before I knew it was a UTI. Once I determined it was, I had one of each of my old prescriptions, until I can go pick up a new one tomorrow morning. However, the phenazopyridine doesn't seem to be relieving my symptoms, and the pain when I urinate is getting worse. My urine is also yellow, not orange. Even from the beginning to now. Is it because the prescription is just over a year old? Any suggestion? I'm in quite a bit of pain. ## It is hard to say, medications do lose efficacy with time, but it could also be due to a different strain of ba...

I've been prescribed clindamycin 300mg for the next seven days. Is this for a urinary tract infection (e.coli)? I'm also wondering since this is not a normal drug that is usually prescribed, if I should take it or if I should I go seek another doctor's opinion? ## This is a broad spectrum antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of bacterial infections, so it is best to follow your doctor's instructions. I'm all out of Amoxicillin and have Pota-V-kin Penicillin V 800000U... Does this cure a UTI? Please help. ## Hi Juno, A study by the US National Institute of Health smugly describes Penicillin's efficacy against UTI's as being a rational choice. Source: NIH / PMC477226 However my research leads me to believe that Penicillin's efficacy may also be dependent upon the strain of bacteria that's causing the infection. Therefore it may be a good idea to have your doctor analyze the bacteria through whatever diagnostics are deemed appropriate, in order to ensure that taking Penicillin is indeed the best approach. If you're unable to get in to see a doctor, perhaps a local pharmacist could at least advise you on Penicillin's standard adult dosing protocols for a UTI....

I have a UTI Pirifur & Fenazopiridina have been recommended, should I use both or just one? ## Were these medications recommended by your doctor? It is probably best to go with your doctors recommendation (rather than someone's online opinion) since he or she would know best, based on your medical history, and various other methods used for determining if a specific drug is suitable or not. In the meantime I think it would be wise to research and try some natural remedies to help fight the infection without the extra side effects that come with prescription medications.

What narcotic pain meds could my doctor safely prescribe as someone who has been diagnosed with Hepatitis C? Also, I have been prescribed Suboxone. Is this a problem with this diagnosis? I have a terrible doctor who manages to see 20 patients in less than an hour by ushering us all in and out in 5 minutes or less...so I haven't been able to ask her. ## Zydot, Unfortunately in your position the issue isn't with time management or your Hep-C . You must find another provider concerned enough about your welfare to treat you with the respect you deserve. There are narcotic pain meds that can be safely utilized but if your already receiving suboxone I question the effectiveness that these Rx's would have on your pain. I have had chronic UTI's my whole life but ran into real problems since 1998 after cystocele/rectocele repair. I had a suprapubic catheter for a few days. I got a nosocomial infection in hospital. I was prescribed Tramadol Sandoz Capsules 50mg for Urinary Tract Infection. After researching the drug I am wondering if this is the correct drug as it does not appear to be an antibiotic? ## No, it is not. Tramadol is actually an opioid, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It can help with pain, but will not do anything to treat a bacterial infection. Who prescribed it? ## I believe that the Tramadol HCL is not only causing me to be constipated, but now I developed a UTI...what can I do naturally to help while I am on this medication? ## Weazie, Although tramadol can cause constipation the incidence of uti's have no correlation in the literature. I have started having pain & am sure it is a UTI. I have these Dicloxacill 250mg & was wondering if this will cure my problem. ## Self-diagnosing is never a good idea, especially with a urinary infection, first of all their are antibiotics targeted to treat it much faster and while it could very well be exactly what you suspect, there is always the chance that it isn't, it could be a vaginal infection, bowel, kidney or one of a number of other things, so your best bet would be to see your doctor and follow their advice after diagnosis.
