Is there another medication stronger than 10 mg zolpidem? Lately, zolpidem hasn't been putting me asleep with one pill. I've been doing 3 a night... which makes me run out of the prescription before the 30 day time-frame! I haven't had a chance to talk with my doctor yet but I will. Any suggestions? ## Try a different brand of generic. Some are notoriously weak. Which brand are you taking now? ## This medication is really only intended for the short term treatment of insomnia, not for long term use. How long have you been taking it? The FDA warns that it may cause side effects, such as drowsiness, dizziness, sleep actions, hallucinations, and next day hangover-like effects. What other medications have you tried? Taking 3 of them can be very dangerous. ## Hey guys, Sleepless ...

I have been taking Oxycodone as prescribed, 30 mgs. per day/ 3 times a day. I can't stand having to sleep all day. When I wake up, I am very depressed. I suffer from Treatment Resistant Depression. My pain went from a 5 to close to 10 and walking is even difficult. A family member hired a cleaning lady and someone to do other tasks for me, but I feel terrible having that paid for. I need a new medication. ## Hello, Candy! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. That can be a side effect, as listed by the FDA, that some people experience from Oxycodone, along with nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation. It can really vary from person to person, for instance, I didn't have that problem with Oxycodone, but I did experience it when taki...

My mom was in the hospital for 2 weeks. diagnosis aphib and broncitis. She has been out of the hospital for 3 weeks. The physical therapist has quit coming because he said she does great. There is a home health nurse that comes twice a week. We have been taking her out to her great grandsons football games on saturdays and they are long days. She gets up in the morning has 1 cup decaffe coffee, toast with peanut butter while reading her newspaper then goes back to bed and would sleep all day if someone didnt wake her. I am concerned that the meds she is taking are causing this tiredness all the time. She used to take 30 minute walks twice a day and I realize she was in the hospital but she doesnt seem to be trying. She is on oxygen - but we have been trying to ween her off it per the in...

Does anybody know any prescription strength sleep aids that are stronger than Melatonin? I have been using at least 10 mg Melatonin a night at bedtime for a few years but it isn’t working like it used to. Keep in mind this is when needed and I would talk to my doctor about this once I have a list related towards this. ## I am 89 and have used Ambien, 5 mg. dose for years, with no bad side effects. It gently brings on a sleepy feeling and usually lasts thru the night. A slight hazy feeling in the a.m. lasts for about an hour but that's all. Recommend that dosage. ## Melatonin is an OTC natural brain chemical, it supposed to have a calming effect. It's about as strong as Benadryl, if you know what I mean. There are many different sleep medications available, and some of the ...

I have a severe tooth ache that came on Friday night during our campout. Just got home Sunday morning and it is getting so bad I can't sleep. I found a bottle of propoxy n apap 100 650 tab medicine that was prescribed in 09. It says to discard after 7/28/09. I am desperate for some relief. Is it unsafe? My dentist won't be in until tomorrow. ## Hello, Nola! How are you feeling? I am very sorry about the toothache. No, this medication is not safe to take. All drugs containing Propoxyphene and its relatives were removed from the market several years ago, because it was found to be cardiotoxic and many people suffered adverse events, some of which were fatal. This is one that you really need to just toss out. If the pain is severe, you can go to your nearest ER and they should be a...

Hi I'm Patricia my doctor put me on zolpidem to help me sleep they work great. I went back and she put me on benzonatate for a cough OK my question is I think I'm trying to catch a cold, is it safe to take night time cold and flu med. With the other meds I'm taking? ## Hello, Patricia! How are you? It depends which medication you want to take, not all of them contain the same ingredients. For instance, many of them use Diphenhydramine in the night time ones, which could be too sedating if taken with the other medications. Can you please post back and clarify? The FDA lists the typical side effects of Zolpidem as possibly including nausea, dizziness, hallucinations, sleep actions and next day hangover-like effects. Benzonatate may cause side effects, such as constipation, diz...

Took metoprolol tartrate 50mg last night and woke up 4 hours later with bp 145/107 went back to sleep woke up 151/98. What to do? ## Hello, Lucy! How are you? My first question is how long have you been taking it? This medication will take about a month to reach its full level of efficacy in your body, so you're not going to see an immediate improvement in your blood pressure. My second question is why are you checking it when you wake up in the middle of the night? As I said, these medications don't work immediately, it will take a few weeks to see improvement, if it works for you. Obsessively checking, whenever you have trouble sleeping or what have you is only going to worry you needlessly. You should only check it as often as your doctor has instructed and make sure to take ...

Do you have a list of medications that will make you itch? I'm on six different types of medication. They are for depression, asthma, anxiety, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Any advice to help stop the itching? Can't sleep. ## Hello, Rachel! How are you doing? Has there been any change? Unfortunately, I can't state which one might be causing it, just based on the classes of the medications, nor can I possibly list all the medications that could cause itching, the FDA has far too large of a list. Can you please post back with the names of the actual medications you are taking? If so, I will be very happy to check the side effect information for you. Thanks!

Taking 50mg of Methimazole daily for past 3 months. It seems like my symptoms are getting worse with anxiety, depression, and lack of sleep. (Hyperthyroidism) Can it be caused by Methimazole? Should I stop or continue taking it? Has anyone tried ThyroSoothe remedy? If so, can you please give me your honest opinions. Thinking of stopping Methimazole and trying ThyroSoothe. Any helpful advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks ## Hello, Cindy! How are you? Those symptoms are all listed under the possible side effects by the FDA, along with changes in taste, dizziness, headache and joint pain. When was the last time your levels were checked? Has anyone else taken this medication?

Should this medication be prescribed to an adult who is taking Daizepam, Morphine Sul, Opana, Savella and amphetamine tab 20 mg? I don't see any indication for usage by adults. I was told it is to keep the person awake during the day so he can function. ## Adderall can be used by adults, however, it contains mixed amphetamine salts and you listed a 20mg Amphetamine tablet, so it would really be doubling up on the same thing. And yes, it can be used to treat daytime sleepiness, as well as ADHD and narcolepsy. As to the other medications, I am not finding any contraindications listed, but you should check with the doctor or pharmacist to be certain. Are there any other questions or comments?

Hello, I've been taking 75mg of nuvigil now for only 2 days. The only real side effect I've experienced except slight nausea is that i feel wide awake after 3am. I go to bed at 11 with no problems but the once 3ish comes around i have a wide awake feeing. Im not wanting to take it anymore cause i NEED my sleep!!! Recommendations?? ## Hello, Amy! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're having. It may be that the 75mgs is too high of a dose for you and you need to speak to your doctor about trying a lower one. The FDA lists the other possible side effects of this medication as including dizziness, headache and nervousness. What time of day have you been taking it? That could also play a role.

I started sleep walking on serenace/ cogentin so the doctor put me on Zyprexa/alanzapine is this normal I think serenace/cogentin are dangerous. ## It is a rare, but possible side effect of most antipsychotic medications. There are also very serious side effects that can result from using Zyprexa. The most common ones that cause problems for those taking it is severe weight gain, which often results in Type II Diabetes and extreme withdrawal symptoms when they try to stop taking it. There are many horror stories out there from people who have used both of these medications. My husband had severe problems when he was taking Zyprexa and he had only been on it for a short time and it was a nightmare when he stopped taking it. So anyone who takes these types of medications needs to realize,...

I take tramadol a lot and want to stop I have been on them 10 yrs and want to stop I also get zolpiclone for sleep and I feel so ill if I don't take these tablets ## Hello, Misty! How are you? The FDA does list Tramadol as an opiate that may be habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Thus, you'll most likely need to do a very slow taper to avoid the withdrawal effects. Have you consulted your doctor about stopping it? They should be able to help you set up a proper withdrawal schedule. What dose do you take and how often do you take it?
