I have been taken 9 potassium tablets a day to for approx 6 years. Potassium level has been good. Will there be any side effects if I cut back to one a day, after one office visit and blood test? I do not understand this quick move and am scared. ## Hello, Almond! How are you? There really shouldn't be any issues, according to the FDA, but if they are the only thing keeping your potassium up, it may drop again, suddenly, due to a rebound effect. Thus, your doctor should check it, again, soon. Did they give any reason for the sudden change?

How soon after starting Klor-con m20 3 times daily will my level increase for a blood test? I am to have surgery in 5 days and right now it is low. ## Hello, Carol! How are you? I hope your surgery goes well. It usually starts to raise within a few days. I've had to take it, before, because for some reason my body doesn't store potassium and they were able to see a difference after just a few days, when I was in the hospital and checked frequently. The FDA does warn that it can be very harsh on the stomach, so it should be taken with food. Is there anything else I can help with?

My 102 and 95 year old parents take this HUGE tablet, and they have trouble swallowing it. My mother chews it to break it up, but my research shows this is a bad idea due to more rapid release into her system. Her alternative is to refuse to take it. Is this available in smaller tablets? She probably could swallow two tablets half the size of the 20 meq. I have seen reference to a powder, as well, and wonder if that might be mixed into juice or coffee for an easier administration? ## This is a potassium supplement and you are correct, chewing them is a bad idea, because it can cause ulcerations of the esophagus and stomach. I am not aware of any smaller tablets available, however, you could ask her doctor about the powder, or using an equivalent over the counter substitute. There are so...

My Dr says I have low potassium she gave me pot chloride m 20. When I take this drug, in the morning . By that afternoon I have a sensation like some one hit me in the heart and hot lava goes down my arms. And its like I am dying. It is really really scary .why is this happening. No one knows why. ## Hello, Deborah! How are you? Potassium can be very, very harsh on your stomach, so my guess is that it's ramping up your stomach acid production, since those same symptoms can occur with GERD. Have you tried making sure not to take it on an empty stomach? You also may want to ask about taking an antacid, while you're on it.

Con you tell me how many bananas I have to eat to get the same amount of potassium as one klor-con m20 tab? ## Hello, Frank! How are you? From what I can find, they estimate approximately 1 mEq per inch of banana, so you'd need to eat 20 inches of banana for each tablet you are supposed to take. It would likely be easier to just take the tablets, rather than eating bananas all day, every day. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for the information. I was curious. That is a lot of bananas especially in light of the fact I'm not that crazy about bananas. The pill, though, is a bit hard to swallow.
