If lyrica is affecting nerve pain and maybe even destroying the nerves slowly what is it doing to our brains? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? It doesn't destroy nerves. Where did you hear that? It works by affecting the synapses in the brain that respond to pain signals, it prevents them from reacting and overreacting to stimuli. It is actually an anticonvulsant that was later found to help with mood disorders and nerve pain. Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and weight changes. Are there any other questions or concerns?

Hi, As you know with Lyrica orgasm are difficult to achieve, in some cases I used to push myself for hours to attain climax. I had been taking lyrica for a year and i stopped 2 weeks ago. I am a 33 yrs old male. Problem: since i stopped taking lyrica, i started feeling some of the withdawel side effects such as: dizziness, drouziness, anxiaety, trouble breathing. ESPECIALLY AFTER HAVING AN ORGASM. (if i do not have an orgasm for a while all withdrawal effects cool down) this is very annoying and i am seeking help! thanks, sam ## I am sorry, but there is really no help for this, other than to let the effects wear off as your body adjusts to no longer having the medication. You said you stopped 2 weeks ago and it can take a month or more for such effects to wear off and your body to retur...

I have just started this medication for acute jaw nerve pain. i have just read all about it. sounds like a terrible drug with weight gain, depresion, etc. can you give me more details please. i am already on citilapram 30mgs a day ## Hello, Jacky! How are you? Yes, there is a risk of such side effects with it, but the thing you have to be aware of is that not everyone experiences them. Some people may run the gamut of all the side effects, but others may not have any. It all depends on you and your body. Do you normally experience a lot of them? ## I have been taking Lyrica for several months now and currently at 200mg a day. I have had some weight gain (aprox 10-15lbs) but the worst parts are the memory loss.. stupid stuff like word finding that should be simple and is just gone! Anoth...

I am so upset about the Lyrica of 900 mg that I was on for six weeks. It has destroyed my life. I nearly killed myself, my husband and possibly people on the road because I became a missile behind the wheel of a car. I stop taking it immediately and following that I had the feeling of shards of glass in my feet which pain management did not explain nor address! I suffered from the second week of February and have become bed-bound since. It has gone from shards of glass to plantar fasciitis and now they are telling me that I have and trapped nerves in my feet. I cannot walk I am waiting on taking a test to specify exactly what nerve is entrapped. Now noticing I am having similar pain in my hands, I am choosing alternative medicine next week to have acupuncture because here in the state o...

Lyrica has ruined my life. It wasn't bad enough with the pain from my back injury. I only took Lyrica for 2 weeks. The weight gain was bad. I lost 1/3 of my hair in 4 months. I have had a rash for over 1 year now. I mean a bad rash. This was my first side effect. And they warn you of this. Get off Lyrica asap if you get a rash. I thought I was having a stroke the first week on Lyrica when they rushed me to the hospital. I had read on the internet of how many young people have died from strokes from taking Lyrica. My vision is so bad now. I can barely drive at night time and I have to were glasses to see the tv. The worst side effect I've had and still have is the terrible, terrible pain in all my joints. My knees are so bad and my hands and fingers & joints pound and throb 2...

I've been taking lyrica 75mg 3x day which was prescribed by my physiatrist concurrently w/ Cymbalta 30mg. Great combination for me. They seem to work together. Lyrica relieved me ot debilitating neuropathic pain, burning & tingling, in feet, calves, sacroiliac, and intense aches in shins, thighs, head & neck, all associated w spinal stenosis, lumbar & cervical (neck). Before that I was taking opiates & cyclobenzaprine (muscle relaxant for associated leg cramps, like Charlie horse type). When I became allergic to the cyclobenzaprine, I was switched to Valium. All good, except for the 40#s I gained and the 10" to my waist. I now have a big belly which I'm very unhappy about, despite my very strict diet. 1.5 yrs ago I had non-elective surgery: triple level lumba...

I have taken Lyrica for over three years for serious Neuropathies (Level 10 pain...unable to leave my home or function at all) caused by undiagnosed B-12 and Vitamin D Deficiencies. I started at 150 mg twice a day; however, had to increase to three times a day to more fully deal with the pain. Eventually I reduced it back to twice a day as the pain was controlled (90%) and due to excessive daytime sleepiness. Lyrica saved my life. I am able to work full-time again and do. Most side effects disappeared over time EXCEPT losing word recall at times and weight gain (I diet all the time now). But it is ALL worth it to be nearly pain free... Nerve pain is unbearable. I am a 68-year-old woman and healthy otherwise. ## I'm so very glad that this medication is working so well for you. The me...

I've been on Lyrica for 5 years, now at 100 mg/3 times a day. Overall, I would say this drug has been very helpful. It does work and the side effects have been minimal. However - I have begun to have headaches due to tight muscles in my upper body. In all the forums I have researched I haven't come across tight muscles as one of them - headaches, yes, tight muscles, no. Has anyone else experienced this? ## Hello, Maryb1953! How are you doing? Sorry about the problem that you're having. Actually, it has been known to cause myoclonus in about 4% of the people take it. It's an involuntary muscle jerk/spasm, so that could be what's causing your problem. Learn more Lyrica details here. Have you discussed it with your doctor? Our bodies do change with time, so it's pos...

I was prescribed lyrica from my spine specialist after I experienced nerve pain after herniated disk surgery. My. Specialist instructed to only take lyrica at night as it will "spin me out" I think he used this term because I'm only in my early 20's and thought that would connect with me better. I have had a really positive response with this medication, sure I did feel a little off balance and not myself but I got use to it. In my case the little side effects I felt was nothing compared to the nerve pain I was experiencing, with this medication I was able to go back to the gym and lead a more active life. My specialist didn't really monitor that much, I did have down days were I felt a little depressed but that also could have been to a work situation at the time, p...

I have a CVS (Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome) condion. I experience alot of pain during a cycle. Lyrica works so far. I have experienced no vomiting or nausea during these days. But the side effects are kicking my butt. Dizziness, blurred vision, hyper, I can't stay seated. Staying up very late. Do these side effects subside or go away after the body get adjusated? I'm wired! I'm 43 years old and need to relax. ## I wanted to talk to the person that has CVS! My son has it too, was wondering how they diagnosed you and how often episodes occur. ## I had to see a GI doctor who did a stomach emptying test to rule out gastroparesis, an h. pylori test to rule that out, I had an upper endoscopy years ago otherwise they would do that. They have to just rule out everything else it could be...

How do I report the side effects I experienced from lyrica to the FDA online? I seem to remember from my first encounter with this site, it produced a notice that you could report right on this site. Otherwise, google Lyrica online, or maybe FDA? ## Hello, Kitty! How are you? You can contact the FDA to report your experience by calling the FDA at 888-463-6332. What issues did you experience? They list the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, irritability, mood swings and weight gain. ## Started on 75mg lyrica twice daily. I have been on Lyrica for about 3 weeks now for neuropathic pain. I am an MS patient and the Lyrica is helping. I have had side effects of weight gain and sleepiness. I may have to increase my dosage because I am still having a little pain. Can anyone tell me how long the side effects last and does increased dosages ease your pain more. ## It is hard to say how long the side effects will last, it can vary from person to person, it can also vary according to your dosage and your drug tolerance, for most people it ranges anywhere from 2 weeks to a month. Whether or not a higher dosage will relieve your pain more is another thing that no one can say for sure. Some people get great results from these types of meds and some don't. You will just have to try it and see what happens, and fo...

Last week my pain maangement doctor told me she was stumped since my epidural pain shot did nothing and no issues on imaging test. SHe brought up Fibromyalgia and the connection to my sensitive skin issues and a possible connection to my ongoing "mystery nerve and muscle pain". She prescribed my Lyrica and after only a couple of days I am a bit perplexed. My cognitive issues are pretty rapidly clearing up to a decent degree. On the other hand the pins and needles sensation that was localized ot my back and thighs is now all over my body and it very uncomfortable. The pain level has decreased only to a small degree. My doctor told me to try it for a couple weeks and go from there. Its only been a few days but i already want to stop it. Is there any instances where it amplifies ne...

Also, this med has caused sum severe joint pain that I NEVER HAD BFORE! My dr also says that the highest dosage any person should be on regardless is 450mg, no more, well ive been on this med on/off for ten yrs. never have i been on this amount of mg. but i trusted my new dr which is a group of anesthesiologist, which is a dr that knows everything about meds, what meds go & dont go with what meds, which meds will help...

I know of someone that just committed suicide who also happened to be taking Lyrica. It may be impossible to know if the two things are linked. She was not depressed or suicidal before taking this drug that I know of; and as far as I know, only her mother noticed any changes in her personality leading up to this event. Since her death 6 days ago, I have read more than a few horror stories about not only Lyrica, but Ambien, and epilepsy drugs as well. My mother suffers from neuropathy, and that is my only knowledge of what it must be like to suffer pain so terrible that one would risk the known side effects, which include suicidal behavior; but I hope that everyone takes these warnings seriously. When the drug company says it is "rare", but cites a 1 in 500 statistic... please re...
