I started Losartan 7 days ago and BP has not gone down. How long does it take to start lower BP? Today's reading 142/83 and 135/87. ## Hello, Missy! How are you? It may take a month, or so, for it to reach its full level of efficacy and to see how well it will work for you. I've been taking it for several years and am very happy with the results. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

My grandmother'so Dr. told her to double up on her blood pressure medication. She is already taking Losartan 100mg...this would mean that she would take 200mg at one time. Is that safe? ## Hi Jess19, My opinion is that if her doctor instructed her to do so then odds are it probably is safe, since he/she has likely made this decision based off your grandma's medical records and an in-person evaluation of the condition (I would hope). Furthermore, 200mgs a day is reportedly the maximum recommended dose of Losartan Potassium - So your grandma's dosage still falls within FDA guidelines. As to how she might respond or react to such a dosage, only time will tell, as everyone is affected differently by these medications. However, it may be a good idea to closely monitor her blood p...

My blood pressure is up to 135/102 this evening. Can I take another losartan? ## No, Losartan is not a medication that will work to rapidly lower your blood pressure in such situations. It is a drug that must be taken regularly for several weeks, in order for it to reach its effectiveness level in your body. Learn more Losartan details here. Have you been exercising or doing a lot of activity just before taking your blood pressure reading? Had you been drinking anything with caffeine in it? How much sodium was in your meals for the day and the past few days? All of these things I asked about could possibly cause the type of elevation your seeing. What you need to do is contact your doctor and let them know, the 135 isn't a major concern, but the 102 is high and needs to be addressed...

I am on Atenolol and losartan pot 50mg. Well, I am so itchy. My feet itch and my knees have red splotches on them. I was on Lisonopril and it made my liver enzymes so high. I have never had a heart attack, I"m 55 years old and have high blood pressure. What drug can you recommend? thanks. ## Hello, Maria! How are you? I'd suggest asking your doctor about trying Atacand/Candesartan, it is listed by the FDA as an ARB, just like Losartan, but it's known to cause fewer side effects. Its typical ones are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and hypotension. Have you had the itching and splotches checked out by your doctor? That could be due to an allergy, or perhaps just a circulatory issue, too.

I have taken generic hyzaar for years.for the past 4years I've taken losartan potassium HCTZ 100-25 mfr by SANDOZ. They 2 days ago I got my refill and it was a different color pill and made by NORTHSTAR rx. Two days of taking them and my BP goes up to 154/122! Holy crap! My norm is 120/80. Has this medicine acted like this for other people? ## Hello, Vicki! How are you? Has there been any change? There can be fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient in generic medications, as allowed by the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984. Thus, this one may not be as potent as the one you were taking. The 122 is concerning and you should have this checked out, if it's still going that high, as your doctor may need to prescribe a different medication. ## They changed my meds back to the orig...

My blood pressure has been running low the past days. Today average is 107/70. Will I still take the losartan? I also am being treated for anxiety. I took last night 8pm .125mg of CLONAZEPAM (1/4 pill). That's probably worn out by today 6pm. Please help me decide. I'm scared that if I don't take losartan my BP might rise. ## Hello, Techi! How are you? Those aren't dangerously low numbers and you should still take your medication as prescribed by your doctor. Stopping suddenly creates the risk of a rebound effect that could cause your blood pressure and heart rate to elevate to dangerous levels. The typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain and hypotension. The Clonazepam can also lower your blood pressure, ...

I have a presciption for losartan and the pills look different from my previous prescription. The imprint is 572 and they are round pill and white. Are they Losartan? ## Given the description provided, I located the pill marked M 572 to be Albuterol Sulfate (4 mg). This white round pill has the letter M on the top half of the pill divided by a score line with 572 imprinted on the bottom half. The backside of the pill is blank with no score. For more information about this drug, please refer to the link below... If you have any more questions or concerns about this pill please post back and I will be happy to help you. ## A round, white tablet, with an M, a score line and then a 572 is NOT Losartan!! I think your pharmacy made an error. M 527 with that description contains 4mgs of Albute...

My doctor took me off Lisinopril 10 MG Tab and put me on Losartan 50-12.5MG Tab because my potassium was too high. Looking at the containers each came in, I see that they both have potassium in them. How is it helping to switch me from one to the other except that the Losartan costs more? I have not been able to find out how much potassium is in each drug. ## These medications don't actually contain potassium, the listing as Losartan Potassium, just designates the precise chemical salt that the drug is derived from, not that it contains potassium in the actual sense. That said, the reason he switched you the Losartan 50-12.5mg is because the second ingredient is Hydrochlorothiazide, which is a diuretic that helps remove excess fluid from the body. By doing so, it also helps lower el...

Can i use the losartan potassium instead of avalide 300/12.5? ## Hello, Emily! How are you? No, these are not interchangeable, since the Avalide contains 2 active ingredients, Irbesartan and Hydrochlorothiazide to work together to treat high blood pressure. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and dehydration. Is there anything else I can help with?

Should I take losartan potassium 25 mg at night or in the mornings? It makes me very sleepy and my doctor didn't specify but my pharmacist said to take it in the morning. ## Yes, it is usually taken in the morning, so it can help control your blood pressure and heart rate, during the times of day where you will be most active and may experience the most fluctuations, according to the FDA. How long have you been taking it? Most side effects are transient and will go away, once your body gets used to a medication, but that could take 4 to 5 weeks. Other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination.

These pills are orane or pink. are they the correct medication? ## losartan potassium 25 mg are usually white these are orange or pink. is it the correct medication? They have 52/210 on one side and blank on the other. ## The marking is actually meant to be an SZ over 210 and yes, they also contain 25mgs of Losartan, which is commonly used to treat hypertension and some cardiac conditions. This is a generic medication, so it is available from many different manufacturers and the ones you get from your pharmacy can vary, depending on what company was offering the cheapest price, when they had to restock their ...

I need to know what's the difference between tab lup and tab leg in losartan potassium. ## Hello, Sissy! How are you? From what you've listed, they've just been manufactured by different companies, for instance, the lup stands for Lupin Pharmaceuticals. This is a generic, so it's manufactured by several different companies and whichever one your pharmacy carries each month will depend on who was offering the cheapest price, at the time they needed to restock their supply. The FDA classifies Losartan as an ARB that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with? ## You said LUP is for the...

I got this generic drug from WalMart last year manufactured by Merck. It was amazing. Then they switched to same generic drug manufactured by TEVA Pharmaceutical (from white oval shaped pills in a bottle to little green pills in cardboard package), and they didn't do a darn thing. It was like not taking anything at ALL. Did Merck stop making the generic version? It used to have the monopoly on Cozaar before the generic version of losartan potassium came out. ## Hello, WaterBaby! How are you? The generic that any given pharmacy carries can change regularly, depending on what manufacturer was offering the cheapest price, at the time they needed to restock their supply. I am, however, not aware of Merck having made a generic, they are just listed as making the name brand. I have been t...

I am taking Losartan 50 mgs twice a day and I am getting terrible joint & muscle pain. Can it be from the meds? Orrrrrrr could it be from the simvistatin? ## Have you talked to your doctor about this? The first guess as to the culprit would probably be the Simvastatin, these statin medications are very well known to cause these types of side effects in some people that use them. This means it may not be the right medication for you to use and you may need to switch to something else. The Losartan can also cause these types of side effects, but it isn't known to do so as frequently as the Simvastatin. ## How many different medications are you taking with the Losartan? Based on information I've gathered, I'm thinking that Losartan is the primary cause of your joint and mus...
