Is it possible to have an adverse affect being on losartan? My husband has been on 100mg for 6 weeks and it seems as though his bp increases an hour or two after taking it? ## Hello, Natalie! How is your husband doing? How much does it increase and what time of day does he take it? It is normal for blood pressure to change throughout the day, when we engage in physical activity, after we eat and etc. It never remains at one steady level all throughout the day. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and dry mouth. ## My blood pressure is normal after relaxing all day / no stress, but doubles up on my losartan. ## I was on losartan potassium for years. I take amlodipine in the morning for high bp and a water pill, at night I take Losartan and Lorazepham and I am on flexeril and 5mg of percocet 3x day for back pain. My BP is so high at night I can feel the heart beat in my fingertips and i lay awake for hours. I read where if I take potassium at night it will help to lower my BP. Is this true and if so, could it eliminate my BP meds at night. doc says it is stress related and rises when I am in pain. ## Hello, Shar! How are you? You should not take potassium, in addition to the Losartan, unless your doctor specifically says you should, because Losartan can also raise your potassium levels and building up too much of it in your body can be very dangerous. Have you actually checked your blood pressure at night, or are you just assuming i...

I recently started taking two tramadol 50 mg for severe joint pain due to RA. At the same time, my blood pressure was high (226/108) so i took 25 mg metoprolol and 25 mg losartan. Will my blood pressure drop too quickly? ## Hello, Irene! How are you? Has there been any change? These medications will not work to instantly lower blood pressure. They must be taken consistently over a period of time to have their full beneficial effect in your body, they cannot only be taken on an as needed basis. With readings that high, you could be in danger and should see your doctor for assistance, or if you've been instructed to take these medications regularly, you should start doing so. The FDA lists their typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urinatio...

I have been prescribed ramipril 5, telmisartan 40, losartan sodium 50 at different occasions for blood pressure. I want to know is there any harm in changing the medicines from time to time. Or one should stick to one medicine for BP. Please let me have your suggestion in this regard. Please note that alongwith this BP Medicine I have been taking Glibenclamide5mg+Metformin 500 mg (for diabetic) ## Hello, Kaaliya! How are you? You should take whichever medication your doctor has prescribed, unless they tell you to change it or to stop taking it. These types of medications take awhile to reach their full levels of effectiveness in your body, so switching too frequently wouldn't actually give them a chance to work. Which one are you currently taking?

Can Losartan 50 mg loose it's effectiveness for lowering blood presure overlong term use? ## It actually isn't that the medication loses effectiveness, but that your body gets tolerant to it. Your body can get used to anything you use for a long period of time and it will eventually stop working as well for you. Learn more Losartan details here. There's really no precise time frame, it can vary from person to person. Some people can take the same medication in the same dosage for years and it will keep working, but some people will need to switch to a different dosage or medication after just a few months. And since we are talking about your blood pressure, you also need to be aware the certain lifestyle habits can also play a role and may be making it so it's going high...

On Losartan .5, less than 3 weeks In newly taking Losartan (no adverse side effect symptoms) average blood pressure has increased moderately during this time period . Physician advised. Curious if this experience was repeated in any clinical drug trials or other patients with a subsequent longer term use of the Losartan reversing the trend line to lowering BP. ## There is always a risk that any given medication could cause the opposite of its intended effects in some people that take it. It is not very common, but yes, the NIH and the FDA both note that it is possible and has happened, before. It may be that it is not the right medication to help you and you need to try something else. There are many blood pressure medications available. Has there been any change? ## Thanks for the feed...

Has anyone experienced itching all over plus itchy bumps on scalp. I weaned myself off of it awhile back and the itching and bumps pretty much went away but my blood pressure went up so dr put me back on it. (He was not happy that I stopped taking it) has anyone else experienced these symptoms. Labatatol is the only new drug I started taking when I first started itching & bumps. Help!!! ## Has your doctor had you try any other medications to help lower your blood pressure? There are over a 100 on the market that might help, without causing such side effects. Can this medication affect the liver in anyway ? ## Hello, Brenda! How are you? Most medications are processed through your liver, so yes. Though, it is very rare for it to cause any problems. However, when most people are taking it for a long period of time, their doctors will do liver and kidney function tests to monitor and make sure they aren't developing any problems. This medication is most commonly used to help lower high blood pressure and treat certain cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension and dehydration. Is it safe for a 72 yr. old to take 4 different high blood medications? It seems scary... ## Multiple medications are often prescribed to help lower high blood pressure as safely and as fast as possible, or to help control certain cardiac conditions. How are they working for them? If they are experiencing issues, such as low pressure/low heart rate, as well as other side effects that the FDA lists, such as dizziness, severe drowsiness, headache, dehydration and fainting? ## Sorry, I meant to add that if they are experiencing such issues, they may need dosage adjustments, or to stop certain medications. ## I take amlodipine 10 mg, losartan 50 mg, acylovir 400 mg, bystolic 5 mg...among other meds. Isn't that too much high blood pressure medication?

What are the effects of overdosing on losartan, multiple 100 mg tabs? ## Hello, Mick! How are you? If you know someone that took too many, they should seek emergency medical attention. That amount could cause a fatal overdose, due to the fact that it lowers both blood pressure and heart rate, so having them fall too low could cause heart and/or respiratory failure, as listed by the FDA. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi. A couple of hours back my cousin took 3 losartan h tablets. What will be the consequences? Please reply back asap... I take Losartan for high blood pressure. I was also on HRT Femeston. I have stopped taking HRT and now take Dong Quai and Black Kohosh. These are suiting me but as Dong Quai will help with high blood pressure can I stop taking Losartan? ## Hello, Sarah! How are you? It would be best to continue taking it, unless your doctor approves of your stopping it. While the NIH does list that some herbs have been known to help lower blood pressure, most of them did not lower it significantly enough on their own to replace the use of actual proven prescription medications. However, a good healthy diet, with lots of proper exercise, might enable you to eventually get it under full control naturally, so you can stop taking the medication. What have your recent blood pressure levels been?

Just started on Losartan , previously was on lisinopril that didnt do anything to lower BP. After 3 days on Losartan I noticed my resting heart rate in now 100+… previously was 65 to 70 on any given day.. I was told it could take 2 to 3 weeks for Losartan to fully be in my system to see a change. Will my heart rate get lower once the med takes effect or is something wrong? ## Hello, Dom! How are you? The higher heart rate could be due to stopping the Lisinopril, if you stopped abruptly and switched to the Losartan, it may have caused a rebound effect that can include elevated heart rate and elevated blood pressure. However, it is always best to check with your doctor to be sure. If the Losartan works for you, you should eventually see an improvement in your heart rate. My heart ra...

Should I take tylnol, Advil, Alive or Asprin for body akes? ## Hello, LT! How are you? If you are taking it to lower your blood pressure, then it's very likely that you need to refrain from taking the NSAIDs, such as Advil, Aleve or Aspirin, because they can actually cause blood pressure elevation. You need to check with your doctor to make sure of which is safest for you, but it's likely that you need to stick with just Tylenol. ## Have been taking one Losartan /hct 100-12.5 every morning for about 4 months. I take blood pressure readings in the morning, noon & evening. My readings are almost always above 150/85. I accidentaly took two 25mg losartan but one in the morning and one at 2pm will i be okay ## Hello, Dee Dee! How are you? Did you suffer any adverse effects? Anytime you are worried about a possible overdose, you should contact your doctor, poison control or go to your nearest ER, for your own safety. As to the dosage, it can be given in doses up to 100mgs a day. However, accidentally doubling your dose could cause your blood pressure to go lower than usual, so you may experience dizziness, drowsiness and headache. If you have a smartphone, I'd suggest getting a reminder app for prescriptions. One that not only reminds you when to take them, but one that makes you acknowledge when you've taken it, to avoid such instances in the future.

What is a common ingredient found in Losartan, Lipitor, and Zoloft? The first two gave me a dry hacking cough, and now I am getting the same side effect from Zoloft. Please help! ## There is no common ingredient, but each of them can cause that type of problem, in some people, due to the way they work in the body. Losartan is the active ingredient in that one, it's a generic for Cozaar, which is an ARB used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions. Zoloft contains the active ingredient Sertraline, which is an SSRI antidepressant. Zocor contains the active ingredient Simvastatin, it is used to help lower cholesterol.
