Can this medication affect the liver in anyway ? ## Hello, Brenda! How are you? Most medications are processed through your liver, so yes. Though, it is very rare for it to cause any problems. However, when most people are taking it for a long period of time, their doctors will do liver and kidney function tests to monitor and make sure they aren't developing any problems. This medication is most commonly used to help lower high blood pressure and treat certain cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension and dehydration. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been taking losartan 25mg for about 6 weeks for high blood pressure. Within that time I started to experience back pa...

Been thanking Losartan/HCT 50-12.5 for about 10 months. About three months ago I started getting a lump on my left breast it has been tender and sore. I'm a man and I was getting worried about it mite be Breast Cancer. I went and had a mammography done today the Doctor told me it was not cancer. I ask her if it may be the medication I was taking she looked at a long list of medicationand Losartan was on the list. I call my Doctor and spoke to the nurse and told her what i found out she said she would talk to the Doctor and would get back to me. I have been on it for 2 months and the side effects have been awful. I couldn't stand it any more. I stopped taking it last Wednesday. It's been 5 days. I now have swollen ankles. Is this something to worry about? What is the risk of stopping and how long does it take to get it out of your system? ## Hello, Lindyann! How are you? Yes, you shouldn't have stopped it abruptly, because that can cause a rebound effect, such as what you're experiencing with the edema. You may also have dangerously elevated blood pressure. Please consult your doctor as soon as possible to have things checked out for your own safety. You may require medical treatment and will need to try a different blood pressure medication. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## hello..ive been taking l...

ANYONE TAKE SOMETHING LIKE THIS. LAST TIME IT WAS GREEN AND SAID TEVA USA ## Losartan is a generic medication and once a medication is available for generic production, it is usually manufactured by quite a few different companies. The reason whatever pills you get from your pharmacy may change regularly is due to the fact that, when they need to reorder, they will order from whichever one of those companies is offering the cheapest price, at that time. This is how they keep costs as low as possible for their customers that may not have insurance and might need to pay cash for their prescri...

I have been taking losartan 50 mg a day, but divided in the morning and night. As my dr noticed side effects, I was later prescribed 25 mg. It has been 10 days but I have serious cramps in my legs when I'm jogging or walking. I'll consult with my dr... My bp is 120/80. Is there another medicine that will lower my bp but with less side effects than losartan? Or can I take half of 25mg one time a day? ## I am taking this drug as well with the same side affects. After having taken it for a month the cramps (Charlie horses) have all but stopped. ## Those might be side effects of this medication, according to NIH reports. If the doctor prescribed 25mg of Losartan, can I cut a 50 mg of Losartan in half? Thought it would save some money. ## Hello, Rita! How are you? Yes, that can be done, as long as it's not a time released medication and your doctor approves. I've been doing this every day for several years, now. Before I had insurance, I discover it was much cheaper to buy 30 of the 50mg tablets, instead of 60 25mg tablets, and break them in half, since I take it twice a day. Most of them are even scored to make it easier to do so. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. The one caution I would like to posit is to make sure you take it will a full glass of water and swallow it immediately. This medication tend...

I think that I missed my dose today at 1:30, but I'm not sure? Will I be ok to wait until tomorrow to take it? Also should I wait the entire 24 hours or just take it in the morning? ## Hello, Chad! How are you? What did you end up doing? It is always best to check with your doctor regarding what you should do in such a situation, however, in some instances, it is safer to take an extra dose, rather than risk skipping one. Since missing a dose could cause dangerous rebound elevations to your heart rate and blood pressure, which could lead to heat attack, or stroke, according to the AMA. However, doubling up just once, usually only results in your experiencing more side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination, as listed by the FDA. Now, of course, there a...

I started taking Losartan 50mg two and a half weeks ago and I have developed tinnutis, this is not a common side effect but an adverse one, I've previously been on Rampiril but didn't feel well, will this side effect go away or will it be permanent or should I change medication again, and if it's in the same family of arbs will I get it again. I'm getting quite worried, docs saying my ears look clear so don't know what to do. ## Yes, as reported by the U.S. FDA, that is a known side effect of this medication, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Such side effects are usually transient and go away, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take 4 to 6 weeks. If it doesn't improve, after that point, or if it wo...

My Losartan 50mg white round pill has an odor when opened. It also states on the bottle from Walmart, "issued MAR 2015". Is this good? ## Hello, Palette! How are you? If it isn't coated, Losartan always has an odd odor, I've taken it from several different manufacturers over the years and I've experienced this, as well, I can also tell you that tasting it is even worse!!! I've accidentally had it happen, before, and it was not pleasant! Pills generally have an expiration date of one year from when you receive them from your pharmacy, if they are in a normal pharmacy bottle, but the expiration date can be as long as 4 to 5 years, if they are still in the original factory sealed container. The FDA does warn that they may lose efficacy, once expired, so they may not...

What are the differences between the generic for Losartan 50mg produced by Teva and Sandoz ## They are the same medication in the same dosage, just manufactured by different companies. Have you had a problem with one of them? If your pharmacy has switched the one they're providing, that's usually just due to the fact that their supplier is offering the new one at a cheaper price.

My doctor just changed my prescription of Benicar 20 to Losartan 50 because my insurance won't pay for Benicar. Plus I was having irregular heartbeat. Is this a good change? Or am I going to have problems? ## @Lee, I wish I could tell you, but honestly there's no way to know ahead of time how any drug might end up affecting you since everyone reacts and responds differently. As far as potential side effects go, Losartan does still carry the same/similar risks as Benicar. But this doesn't necessarily mean you'll still be experiencing them. The switch from one medication to the other shouldn't be too far off the edge, since both medications are in the same class of medications called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. They both work by blocking the action of certain ...
