And yes, you should consult your doctor. I was switched from toprol XL 25 mg once a day to lopressor 25 mg 2x aday. The nurse said it was the same because one is extended release ad the other is not ## That is correct, they both contain the active ingredient Metoprolol, but the Toprol XL is a controlled release formulation and the Lopressor is a regular release one. Learn more Metoprolol details here. Where you told why the switch was made? ## No. When I phoned in for a prescription, another Dr ordered it for me; when I noticed the change my physician said just go ahead and use it because they are the same. I would prefer the once a day for convenience but she said not to waste the meds. Thanks for responding. Appreciate it.

May I take Lopressor 25 mg and lisinopril 10 mg daily? ## Hello, Moe! How are you? Have they both been prescribed for you? They can be taken together, if your doctor says it's safe and that you need to take them. They are often prescribed together in order to bring blood pressure down as fast and as safely as possible. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with? ## My moms blood pressure was 80 / 48. She is taking the following blood pressure medications: Lisinopril 40 mg and Lopressor 20 mg. I feel that her blood pressure is too low. Please advise.

The FDA classifies this medication as a beta blocker that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

I use to take lopressor, the long pink pill. They switched me to metoprolol succinate 2 yrs ago. I liked the brand name lopressor better as it had no side effects and kept my blood pressure down. The insurance company said they stopped making the original lopressor then. But now I heard they are back on the market. Does anyone know this answer? ## From what I can tell, it is still available, but that doesn't necessarily mean that your insurance will cover it for you, since the generics are usually cheaper. What type of side effects have you been experiencing? The FDA lists the typical ones as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. How long have you been taking your current dosage? You may need a dosage adjustment, or to try a different ...

Recently I had a sleep study done to find out why I was still tired the next day even after a good 8hrs of sleep. They determined from the results that I have a form of narcolepsy and prescribed me 150mg of Nuvigil. I also take Lopressor for an anxiety disorder and blood pressure. Will they have any problems mixing? ## Hello, There are no interactions found between these two medications; so you shouldn't have any problems mixing the two. Both of these medications do however interact with food (if taken with food). The bioavailability of Lopressor (metoprolol) may be enhanced by food. Patients may be instructed to take metoprolol at the same time each day, preferably with or immediately following meals. Administration with food may delay the absorption of Nuvigil (Armodafinil) withou...

The bottle from last month for my b.pressure medication lists the name as Metoprol but the bottle I just picked for this month lists the name Metoprolol and the pills aren't the same. I switched to a new pharmacy this month and I thought that might be the reason the pills are different. I am not able to go home now and compare the pills by searching for the description. I have one in my daily medication box and I did search it and it came back as a generic version of Lopressor. I feel my pulse is racing and that my B.P. is going up and I know I NEED to take it now. Is Lopressor in both of the medications I listed above? ## Lopressor is just a brand name for Metoprolol, so yes, these medications are all the same. The one listed as Metoprol was just an abbreviation. Learn more Metopro...

I'm on lopressor and cozaar, is safe to takethem at the same together, lopressor is 50mgs and cozaar is 50mgs ## Hello, Katrina! How are you? Yes, you can take them together, or a couple hours apart, unless your doctor specifics otherwise. When multiple blood pressure and cardiac medicines are prescribed, most doctors do instruct them to be taken together, that way it's easier for someone to remember to take them, so they don't miss any doses. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was switched from toprol XL 25 mg once a day to lopressor 25 mg 2x aday. The nurse said it was the same because one is extended release ad the other is not ## Hi Koolau, Based on my research, the nurse was right in saying that they are the same medication and that Toprol XL is simply an extended-release version of Lopressor. Because of this however, there may be a slight variation of inactive ingredients which can actually be detrimental to how the drug is metabolized and used by your body. I'd just be aware of this factor if for some reason you don't get the same relief or effects that you may have had from the Toprol XL. When you switch brand names or manufacturers, the drug itself doesn't change, but rather the binders or fillers that they put with it. I hope this helps...

Lopressor 25mg I have been on Lopressor 25mg for about 6 months, prescribed by my cardiologist for irregular heart beat and palpitations. I take it right before bed with a glass of water. More nights than not I wake up many time thru the night and lately I have been having trouble falling asleep. My heart beats irregularly when I lay down but if I get up and sit in a chair all is well. I would like to change the time I take the pill from night to morning. Is it safe to skip my nighttime dose and take it the next morning instead? Thanks in advance for your help. ## Hello, Harvey! How are you? I would suggest checking with your doctor, before making a change. It sounds like this medication just isn't lasting you a full 24 hours, so something needs adjusted. Were you originally instruc...

PILLS ARE SCORED ON BACK AND WHITE AND ROUND THANKS FOR ANY HELP ## You have METOPROLOL 25mg,(Lopressor®, Toprol XL™) belongs to a group of medicines called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers reduce the workload on the heart and help it to beat more regularly. Metoprolol controls, but does not cure, high blood pressure (hypertension). High blood pressure may not make you feel sick, but it can lead to serious heart problems. Metoprolol also relieves chest pain (angina) and can be helpful after a heart attack.
