I took Loestrin for about 5 years until I got married and started a family. I am curious to know if anyone else had gall bladder disease/gallstones after taking Loestrin. After having my second child I discovered through an ultrasound that I had gallstones and I had my gall bladder removed. ## There is really no definitive way to say what might have caused the problem. Women are twice as likely as men to develop gallstones, because they can be caused by excess levels of estrogen, which increases the cholesterol levels in your bile and slows the movement of the gallbladder. Therefore, you have two possible factors that could have affected it, the fact that you used hormonal contraception and your pregnancies, it could have been caused by either one or they both could have contributed to ...

When can I get this at my local drugstore? ## You would have to ask your store when or if they are going to get it in, if they don't normally carry it, they should be able to order it in for you. You will, however, need a prescription in the U.S. Since it is an oral contraceptive, which can cause serious side effects or have an effect on other medical conditions, it requires a gynecological and physical exam, as well as doctors approval to use it. Are there any comments or questions? ## My dr prescribed this pill to me. I have 3 different pharmacies in my small town and none of them have this pill and they all say they are unable to order it for some reason. This was the first pill that hadn't made me sick or made my periods worse. I hope my pharmacy will figure out how to get i...

My doctor told me too take only the blue pill so I won't have a period, but I still on my period an on my second pack of pills . Is this my break threw bleeding and will it work will I not have a period if I keep taking my pills like my doctor said???? ## Yes, that would be what's considered breakthrough bleeding, which can happen for the first several months as your body gets used to the hormones, since these contain synthetic ones. And as to whether or not you will have a period while taking them, there is actually no way for anyone to know. The only thing you can do is try it and see. It does work for some women, but since these are synthetic hormones as I said, it does affect your natural hormone balance, so it doesn't work that way for every woman that takes them. Did y...

My doctor told me to start on the first day of my period. On d pack the first pill say Sunday on top. If my period start on a Monday should i take the first pill on the pack that said Sunday or take the second pill that said Monday ## take the first pill on the first day of your period. the box the pill pack came in should have come with a list of drug facts and directions and such, and also with that should be stickers with the days of the week on them. so just peel off the one with Monday at the beginning (far left), and put that sticker over the days of the week at the top of the pack. That way you can keep track of what day of the pack you're on.

does this cause added weight gain or acne ## Hello, Kris! How are you? Those are both possible side effects of any hormonal contraceptive, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, irregular bleeding and bloating. And please make sure not to miss taking any of the active tablets, because that will increase your risk of pregnancy. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I am 33 and started lo loestrin fe as my first contraceptive pill. I was very happy for first three weeks, then I missed my period and started having severe headache and body ache/discomfort. I stopped sleeping...only 2-3 hrs a day at the most. All this while I never missed a pill, had a ph reminder set for early morning. I was concerned about missed period so consulted my gyn who asked me to continue the same. For the next cycle I did get very light period but the pain never stopped and by the end of second month I started having radiating pain in my back, shoulders and head. Finally the pain started radiating to my left arm..that's when my gyn asked me to stop the pill although the sleeplessness continued for almost two weeks after stopping the pill. In the mean time, I was tested...

Hi I'm on lo loestrin and I missed 2 pills the first week of the pack and had break through bleeding but didnt have intercourse those days nor the day after double dosing but the following day I had unprotected intercourse is it possible to get pregnant not follwoing the 7 day rule?? ## Hello, Sara! How are you? And yes, it is possible, the risk isn't very high, but there definitely is a slight one. You'll need to wait this month to see if your period arrives on time and if it doesn't, then you'll need to be checked for pregnancy. It would also be advisable to consult your doctor, to be sure. Is there anything else I can help with?

This morning when I meant to take my third blue pill in the pack, it was i couldn't see so I accidentally had my pack upside down and instead took the second white pill that i should take at the end of the pack. When i realized what i did i took the correct blue pill immediately, but now i will only have one white pill when the time comes to take it at the end of the month. Is it okay to take only one white pill and then have three days of placebo, one where i just don't take any pill? Or is it okay to skip the last 4 pills altogether and just start my new pack right after my last blue one? Which option will not decrease the effectiveness of the pill? ## Hello, Anna! How are you? Sorry about what happened. If your doctor approves, you should be able to do whichever option works ...

Hi, I'm on my second month of loestrin 24. Last month I had my period for 4-5 days and it was pretty light, lighter than my others used to be before I started taking birth control. I was wondering if this is normal? And also, I just started my third week of this second month ad the past few days I've had spotting or maybe bloody discharge? And cramps at some points. I was wondering if this is normal too? ## This is a hormonal based contraceptive, so yes, the symptoms you've described can be normal side effects and they can last as long as this first 3 months. However, if they cause you concern, or are very severe, then you should consult your doctor. ## Thank you so much!

I am getting ready to start a pack of Lo Loestrin FE, I am not due to have a cycle in about 2 weeks. If I start the pack on Sunday as directed will I start my period early? I noticed some have experienced spotting when first starting or it brought on a period. I thought the blue pills is whats stops your period. Thanks :-) ## These are hormonal based contraceptives, so it is possible to experience some breakthrough bleeding, when you start taking them. It's just a side effect of your body adjusting to the hormones. Breakthrough bleeding can include light spotting or a full flow similar to a period. This can happen for as long as the first 3 months. If you start them on the first day of your next period, they would prevent ovulation and you'll be immediately protected from pregna...

Hello, I started taking Loestrin 20 last month, after 4 months of being on Microgynon (which had bad effects on me). I took it for 21 days and then stopped, as I had been advice by the doctor. However, I have a 12 day delay on my period (41 days since my last period) and I am a bit concerned.. I have done 2 pregnancy tests and they were both negative so I am wondering what else can be wrong? Also, just to clarify, I havent started taking the pill again. Thanks a lot. ## There may not necessarily be anything wrong, it could just be due to your body adjusting to the hormones in the new contraceptive. It is normal to have irregularities for the first 3 months or so of taking a new one. However, you should consult your doctor to be certain, they may want to run some tests or do an exam. But...

I am 16 and in my first month of taking loestrin. i have been sick to my stomach on and off every day since i started. I only at the end of my first week and am considering stopping especially after reading about the side effects of others. How long does nausousness last? ## Hi, Nan! Sorry about the nausea that you're experiencing. However, it's difficult to say how long it will last, because it can vary from person to person, but side effects to hormonal contraceptives like this may linger for as long as 2 to 3 months, while your body is adjusting to it. Nausea and the other side effects you've read about are possible with any form of hormonal contraception, including the patches, shots and IUD. The best thing to do would be to contact your doctor to discuss your concerns, ...
