Been taking 10-12 mg.Lisinopril/Hydro for 2 yrs. My mom just passed away with ARDS and I believe it was caused by her taking Lisinopril. It just scared me so much, that I told my doctor I didn't want to take it anymore. I am also on 25 mg. Metoprolol. My doctor told me to just stop it and visit him in two weeks. So far I feel okay but still have a dry cough now and then and feel like I am fighting a head cold. Does this sound par for the course on this med.? ## Has there been any change? Yes, those can be normal side effects and withdrawal effects of Lisinopril, but things should improve in a few weeks as your body adjusts, according to FDA reports. However, it is best to keep an eye on your blood pressure and heart rate, plus keep all follow up doctor's appointments, just in ca...

I've been taking lisinopril 20mg for more than 20 years. I have had side effects that come and go, such as coughing, lightheadedness, and dizziness. But now I have lightheadedness and dizziness all the time. Frequent urination, legs are weak, sometimes when I am walking I feel like I am going to pass out; and ED problems. I spoke with my doctor and he told me to stop taking it. I stopped taking it one week ago. My bp is 135/75. My question is how long will these side effects last before they go away? Thanks. ## Hello, Luis! How are you feeling? After being on it for so long, it may take a month, or so, before these effects go away and for you to start feeling better. As reported by the FDA, you may also start experiencing some rebounds effects, such as elevated blood pressure and he...

Was on Lisinopril for at least one year. Over time developed bad asthma (at first thought must be having anxiety attacks due to feeling shortenss of breath as though breathing with only partial lung, but have never had anxiety!) and Reynauds Syndrome. Told Dr. about worsening nerve symptoms making my feet feel as though freezing, couldn't even sleep at night from discomfort despite rest of body felt normal. No useful or focused response. Progressed to up to my knees and feet and toes turning awful colors like a diabetic with no circulation. Asthma progressed until waking up gasping for air so hard my back hurt for days afterward. Finally, happened to see my ENT who called me 30 minutes after I left her office and told me to stop Lisinopril right away. Stopped it and symptoms cleared...

Has Lisinopril made anyone hungrier or made you gain weight? I am also getting terrible cramps in my legs. I started taking Potassium on my own to stop this pain. Any advice? ## Hello, Madeline! How are you doing? Yes, those can be side effects of this medication, according to FDA warnings, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Have you informed your medical provider of these issues? There are others you can try, which may not cause you the same problematic side effects. ## Lisinopril caused leg cramps and a cough. I got off of it after several months. ## Madeline, I've been on a 5 mg dose of Lisinopril for about 3 months. I did research at the manufacturer's site and found that Lisinopril causes retention of Potassium and tha...

I have been taking Lisiniprol 10 mg 1 tab per day for the past 4 yrs and BP has been quite normal, so yes it does work. Like any other drug watch closely and see your doctor if you notice any harsh side effects. I would say for me yes I do get the cough on and off, dry tickle, cough, cough. It's annoying but I don't know if it's enough to stop taking it as it seems to be working well otherwise. I do however worry about the long term use (if it's OK) and if I were to stop I have read that it's not a good idea to stop cold turkey, any suggestions of how to stop, perhaps I should consult with Doctor?? P.S. I am over 50 ## You shouldn't stop, without your doctor's approval, because while your blood pressure may be normal now, the medication may be the only thing ...

I've been taking lisinopril for about 3 weeks. And suddenly started with severe diarrhea. I can't eat anything. I took some anti diarrheal medicine and that's not helping. Food doesn't stand my stomach longer than an hour very uncomfortable. What should I do? ## Hello, Shannon! How are you? Diarrhea can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the FDA, but it shouldn't be that severe. You should contact your doctor as this likely isn't the right medication for you and you'll likely need to try a different one. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. Is that the only new medication you've been taking?

I have been taking 10 mg/day of Lisinopril for 3 months and have developed a tightening in the chest and flu like symptoms. Within the past 3 weeks I have felt progressively worse and would like to stop. Is it ok to just quit or must I wean myself off? ## Lisinopril is used to help control high blood pressure. That said, most of these medications can cause dangerous rebound effects if you have been on them for a period of time and abruptly stop taking them, this can include increased blood pressure and heart rate, with the risk of heart attack and stroke. The side effects that you are experiencing are normal for this class of medications, you may also experience headache and dizziness. If it is getting worse, however, and not tapering off, you should speak to your doctor immediately abo...

2 years ago I was taking linsinopril, developed a dry cough. Doc. Said was allergy to ace inhibitors. Switched me to losartan. I have now developed a dry cough again. I was checked for allergies, took prilosec to see if it was acid reflux, no for each. Losartan has a side effect of dry cough also. The last dose of losartan I took was 48 hours ago, still have the cough. Is the losartan still in my system? ## I have been off the losartan for over a week but the cough continues. I guess my next idea is to see an ENT, maybe there is something there? ## It might take a little longer for the cough to go away, when I experienced it from Lisinopril, a few years ago, it took about 3 weeks for it to go away. According to FDA reports, it is not an allergy, just a side effect that some people exper...

I just started taking Enalapril Maleate 5 mg 20 days ago. This is the first BP medicine that has been prescribed to me. On day 7, I was experiencing a dry cough daily. On day 17, I developed a sore throat, laryngitis and I was coughing up lots of flem. On day 18 and 19, my hands became very swollen. On day 20, my Dr. had me stop taking Enalapril Maleate 5mg. I was initially pleased with the medication because my BP dropped to 110/70, but the side effects were too severe to continue with Enalapril. ## Yes, those can be side effects that some people experience, when taking this medication, according to FDA reports. The dry cough is usually a warning sign, once it starts it doesn't tend to go away and you must switch to a different medication. I experienced it with Lisinopril and it dr...

Can some one tell me what to expect when weaning off of 20 mg Lisinopril...am down to 15 mg now no effects but now trying to go to 12.5 and today is first day and seem to be having some effects of being hot and feeling like i want to panic. I have been on it for 14 months for blood pressure . can any one advise how to wean off I just plan on 2.5 mg cuts every 10 days or so unless I get better advice ? ## Why are you stopping it? Has your doctor approved your doing so? If you were taking it for high blood pressure, you shouldn't stop without a physician's approval, because if it's the only thing controlling your blood pressure, it will become elevated, again, even if you taper off of it slowly. Are you monitoring your blood pressure and heart rate?

I have just been diagnosied with neuropathy side effects of the blood pressure pill do effect blood flow to hands and feet mainly my feet are number a.lot the time do I need to stop these meds ## Hello, Andy! How are you? You should not stop these medications, unless your doctor approves of your doing so. Stopping abruptly creates the risk of your developing dangerous elevated blood pressure and heart rate, which could result in heart attack, stroke, or congestive heart failure, as reported by the NIH. Who told you that the neuropathy was caused by these medications?

I have lost 50 lbs and now have low BP 90-60 can I just stop taking the Lisinopril-HCTZ ## Hello, Jerry! How are you? I'm glad you're doing so well! No, please don't just stop it, without your doctor's approval. Doing so creates the risk of rebound high blood pressure and elevated heart rate. You should only stop such a medication, if your doctor approves and in many cases, with a slow taper. The FDA lists the typical side effects for this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension and dehydration. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I've been taking Watson 860, pink-round, lisinopril hctz 10/12.5 for the past 10 years. I'm on the second day of being off of Lisinopril after being on it for two weeks with really bad side effects. Chills. Itching, stomach pains, headache. My question is how long has the side effects lasted for everyone? Thanks, RB ## HI, Roddy! Sorry about the side effects you suffered. If you were only on it for 2 weeks, it shouldn't take too long for them to wear off, maybe a week or so, but it can vary from person to person and you should double check with your doctor. Have you already consulted your doctor to switch to a different medication? It isn't safe to just abruptly stop a medication like this, if you were taking it for high blood pressure or a cardiac condition. ## Hello Thanks for your reply! I'm on day 5 of being off of it. I'm going to try nature method...

I've been on 5mg Lisinopril for almost 3 months and have lost 6-8 lbs. without trying. I was only about 180lbs. to begin with. Will the weight loss eventually stop or should I stop the medication? Thanks....Tony ## Lisinopril is most commonly used to help lower blood pressure. Have you spoken to your doctor about this, yet? The weight loss is not considered a normal side effect, but a rare and unusual one. Normally, most side effects start to wear off in 4 to 6 weeks of use. It's very important to involve your doctor in the decision you make about the drug, since the weight loss could also be caused by something else. ## Thank you for your reply. Rest assured I am not stopping or changing any meds without consulting my doc. Tony

Hello I was prescribed lisinpril for about 2 months but could not stand the dry cough. I've been off lisinprl for over 2 week but still carry this nasty cough. I have been taking Losartan for approximately one week could it be the losartan that continues to cause the dry cough? I'm totally frustrated! ## Hello, Rena! How are you? It may take about a month for the cough to stop. I have the same problem with Lisinopril and hated it for that reason and it did take about 4 weeks for the cough to completely go away. Side effects to the Losartan may include nausea, dizziness, hypotension and headache. Is there anything else I can help with?

I started taking lisinopril a couple of years ago. I never really got the cough. However I got acid reflux that was debilitating. I was prescribed pantoprazole for that. I hate the long term side effects and was looking for an alternative - and wondering how I suddenly got reflux. I stopped the pantoprazole two weeks ago and am coping with apple cider vinegar. After some research it seems that lisinopril can cause stomach issues. So I stopped that yesterday and am drinking hibiscus tea instead. Has anyone else had acid reflux disease as a result of lisinopril? ## Hello, Gerdie! How are you doing? Most prescription medications can cause acidity issues as a side effect, according to the FDA. They can often be mitigated by making sure to take them with food, or by taking an antacid with th...

How long for very sore feet and legs to return to normal? Also tiredness and sleeplessness? ## Hello, Steph! How are you? Did you stop taking it abruptly, without tapering or switching to a different medication? If so, that could create dangerous rebound effects, which could include severely elevated blood pressure and heart rate. It could put you in danger, as reported by the FDA. As to muscle soreness, it may take a few weeks for things to return to normal. Help!!! ## Has your doctor had you try any other medications to help lower your blood pressure? There are over a 100 on the market that might help, without causing such side effects.
