I took 10ml of liquid amoxicillin today. Original fill date was 12/17/17 and use by date was 12/27/17. My hands started itching immediately and within the hour my face, ears and neck were bright red and my entire body was itching. Could I have developed an allergic reaction or did this happen because I used after the "use by date"? ## It sounds like you might have developed an allergic reaction. Medications used after the Use By Date are not guaranteed to be as effective as before the date. When a medication has been mixed with water when you buy it from the pharmacy, it is less potent and effective when used after the Use By Date than other medication usually are. ## The information BL provided is correct. Liquids, or creams always tend to degrade much faster than solid forms o...

My son still has two bottles of amoxicillin liquid that has not been opened or used since the pharmacist made it. How long will it last if kept in the fridge ## Hi, Amanda! How are you? Yes, antibiotic suspensions start to lose their efficacy once expired and taking an antibiotic that is not fully effective can be dangerous, since it creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Such liquids are only good for 7 to 21 days, depending on the type. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. Why didn't your son finish the medication? Unless his doctor instructs otherwise, an antibiotic should always be finished to make sure that the infection is fully eradicated and to help prevent the development of the antibiotic resistant bacteria that I mentioned. ## I used it as directed ...

Hi My daughter has 2 bottle of amoxicillin in the refrigerator. Never used but already mixed. The pink one. The expiration date in the bottle says January 2018. Will it still be good to use? The actual date mixed was July 18 2016 ## In my opinion it should be perfectly fine to take. I say this because I would personally feel comfortable taking it based on the info you provided. Depending on storage conditions many prescriptions can reportedly last up to 40 years after the listed expiration date (with few exceptions such as tetracycline). Harvard University and the LA Times both have articles online recognizing this... But since it's not even January 2018 yet I wouldn't even begin to question its efficacy (especially because it has been refrigerated)... Does anyone else have thou...

Can amoxicillin be taken for a sinus infection? It's 6 months old but it's been in the refrigerator. ## What is the expiration date on this antibiotic? The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. If it has expired, it may have lost some efficacy, so it would be best to see your doctor for a new supply, if an antibiotic is required.

Hi, I was just wondering if liquid Amoxicillin actually goes bad & could possibly harm someone, or does it just lose its potency? For example, liquid Amoxicillin kept in fridge the whole time, not quite a month old...there's no expiration date anywhere on the bottle, & there was extra left over after it was administered correctly for 10 days. Does it "go bad"/spoil like a food would? Thanks! ## Hello, Ricky! How are you? Yes, it can go sour and, while it wouldn't actually be harmful, it could cause nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps, if taken once expired, as reported by the FDA. Most liquids are only good for a few weeks, but the pharmacy should be able to give a more precise date. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Amoxicillin is actually only good for...

Can I use an open liquid amoxicillin for a 2 year old that I got on 11/03/2016? He's been messing with one of his ears. ## Hi Sara, I see you posted this back on December 28th 2016 so you may have already come to a consensus on what to do... But I would say that if it has been left open for nearly two months or longer then that's probably not something I would recommend taking. Liquid solutions in particular I believe are more susceptible to going bad than tablets. Not to mention that any impurities might have made their way into the open bottle during that time period. I also think the effort to get a fresh antibiotic will ultimately be worth while, to ensure the safety and efficacy of the treatment. My best wishes to you and your son!

I would appreciate any information about taking amoxicillin capsules with liquids such as fruit juices (especially citric), carbonated beverages, and other liquids like Gatorade. I was told that such liquids, which contain acids, can actually destroy the drug. This is an important question for me. Thanks. ## Best to take with full glass of water there is delayed absorption if taken with food. ## Can Amoxicillin be taken with milk? ## You can take it with pretty much whatever you want, they just suggest water because that provides the fasted and easiest method of absorption. Other beverages, such as Milk, Juice and etc. may delay the absorption. ## can i have some drink with alcool during taking amoxicillin cps? ## No. You CANNOT take amoxicillin with alcohol AT ALL. What antibiotic has a shelf life of 10 years? ## I don't know of any that have that long of a shelf life and I can't find one listed. It generally varies by drug, so there may be one, however. As to Amoxicillin, it has a shelf life of 2 years, from the date of production and your pharmacist has to give it to you with a minimum of one year left on the expiration date, until it starts to lose potency, except when it is a liquid preparation, which have a 7 to 10 day lifespan. My friend in USA has great difficulty swallowing large antibiotic caps; I suggested she asks her doctor to prescribe half the dosage and double the quantity of pills. My friend misunderstood and asked the PHARMACIST who said there are no smaller sized ones. I believe there must be lower doses and she could double the amount of caps. Please help, anybody who knows about USA antibiotics! ## half the dosage of a capsule does not equal to half the size of it. Injection may be better and faster solution ## MAHDI is correct, a lower dosage doesn't necessarily mean a smaller size. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic, so it is very important that the proper dosage be taken for the right length of time to treat or prevent an infection. However, there are liquid suspensions available, as well as che...

I got a real real bad toothache and got a unopened bottle of amoxicillin liquid kind I have for 4 months and I'm pg well it hurt to take ## This medication does not become dangerous, once expired, but it does lose efficacy with time, so if it is expired, it may not work as well as it did, when new, which creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. It would be best to see your dentist for a fresh antibiotic, if one is required and to have the problem that caused the toothache corrected. Is there anything else I can help with?

My name is Mary I have a UTI that is not so serious in pain. I have some amoxicillin that's was filled 6/7/16 and today is 6/28/16. Can I possibly take this antibiotic to get rid of the UTI or should I see a doctor? The medication has been kept in the refrigerator since it has been filled. ## Hello, Mary! How are you? My daughter has amoxicillin that has not been touched can she use it if date is 9/24/15 ## Hello, Susie! How are you? Is it a liquid or tablets? I was given the kids liquid form of amoxicillin but please answer for pill form as well. Is it safe to take 1-2 (200mg) of ibuprofen while using the liquid or pill firm amoxicillin?? My need for the antibiotic was for strep throat and now that I've finished it my wisdom teeth are coming through, so I'd prefer to take ibuprofen for the pain of these teeth coming through. I read somewhere that taking ibuprofen while on antibiotics could give ypu a high chance of convulsion seizures is that true ?? ## Hello, Linn! How are you? Hello, My 13 yr. Old son has been complaining about sinus pressure, has a runny nose and his ears bother him. I have a bottle of liquid amoxicillin that he's had from a previous ear infection, 2016. It has an expiration of 2019. Is it safe for him? ## If that is the expiration date listed on the label, it should be fine, but it is always best to double check with your doctor or pharmacist, and you should never medicate a child, unless their doctor confirms the presence of some issues requiring a medication. Oral surgery for gingivitis and bone Graf. Been on for ten days and have 3days left. Threw up this am while eating 6 hrs after taking pill. Not allowed to chew yet mostly liquid diet. What can I do to combat nausea. ## Hello, Kim! How are you feeling? Have you tried taking it with a little milk? It does have a slight effect on the absorption of this antibiotic, but not enough that most medical scientists have considered it significant enough to carry a warning about telling people to stay away from dairy with this one. You should check with your surgeon first to make sure that it's okay for you to take it that way, but milk can often coat the stomach and help prevent the nausea and irritation. I went to a clinic this past wednesday & had a massive ball of wax removed from my right ear & the pain in my right ear has subsided. Now my left ear feels like its full, clogged & hurts on & off since wednesday but 2 doctors in that clinic assured me there's no wax in my left ear BUT that my left middle inner ear has "supposed" fluid in it that needs to dry OUT. So I was prescribed amoxicillin 2x a day for 10 days & prednisone 40mg a day for 4 days ((to dry out my left ear, which steroid makes no sense to dry my ear out anyway??)). Well amoxicillin I am fine with but the prednisone left me with the worst acid reflux (since I'm an acid reflux sufferer), awful hives from head to toe, & was shaking horrificly like a leaf because I took prednisone fo...
