Linzess Cramps

Today was the first day I took the Linzess. The Dr.gave it to me samples of the med to take for constipation. It worked with in a hour. But all it was, was water. I drank liquids to try to keep myself hydrated. Unfortunately I ended up with severe leg and rib cramps. I drank several bottles of Power Aide and lots of water. I must have been having fluid shifts. I'm was instructed to take it daily. I hope I don't have same problems tomorrow. ## Hello, Lynn! How are you feeling? Unfortunately, many people report that it does tend to cause that type of diarrhea regularly, rather than actually helping them have regular bowel movements. I see you didn't get any answers I was just wondering how long you taking linzess and did you get ahead of the parasite issues? I'm having a lot of gastrointestinal issues in the doctors don't seem to care that I didn't have proof that I have parasites. Let me know if you can how things worked out with taking linzess and getting ahead of parasites. ## Hello, Tova! How are you? I have been on the 145 dose of Linzess for several years now, and it was like a miracle drug. No side effects, and for the first time in 30 years, regular BMs. The past few months have not been so great, though. Constipation, bloating and cramps have returned. I saw my Gastro a few weeks ago, and she upped my dosage to the 290. No change. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? So frustrating! ## Unfortunately, many people have reported the same experience, though the amount of time have varied. Are you making sure to take it with a full glass of water, at least half an hour, before eating or drinking anything else, as directed by the FDA? The bloating and cramps can be side effects of this medication, but it usually causes diarrhea, rather than constipation. Are you on any other ...

I'm confused (since my doctor did not clarify).... I've been taking Linzess for 2 months. Is this a forever pill? Do patients typically have a set amount of time or trial time to see if it's working for them... Just unsure if I should continue with this or if there's an end to taking Linzess in my foreseeable future. It has helped. Having insurance issues / billing claim issues so I haven't been able to go back to the prescribing doctor. Also since being diagnosed with IBS-C, I went gluten free and I'm having success with the stomach cramps. Any info would be greatly appreciated. The Rx ran out today... which means I would be technically stopping it cold turkey tomorrow. Not sure this is a good thing or bad. Not really wanting to stay on it forever anyways though...

The 290 gave me severe diarrhea and cramps but lower soaw no bm I tried waiting a day then take again had horrible round hard stool a few of them passed only with manipulation and bleeding so I took same day the 290 and nothing but can feel it there making it difficult to sit or walk. ## I'm sorry, perhaps I am not understanding you. You said you did not have a BM, but also say it gave you severe diarrhea, and diarrhea is having a BM, even though it is runny and likely not your usual consistency. Can you please clarify? Did you make sure to take it correctly, which is a half hour, before eating, or drinking anything else? Diarrhea can be a normal side effect of Linzess, along with nausea, cramping, and flatulence.

Taking 290mg of Linzess 40 minutes before first meal on an empty stomach. Before I'm even finished eating I get severe cramps and run to the bathroom and have bad diarrhea. Should I be taking a lower dose? I only take the Linzess every other day. I have IBS with constipation and colitis. ## Hello, Shirley! How are you? Yes, you may want to speak to your doctor about trying to lower dosage, for awhile to see how it works for you. The cramping and diarrhea can be normal side effects, as listed by the FDA, but the lower dose may help mitigate them. Other side effects may possibly include nausea and dizziness. I took my first linzess today smaller dosage and had severe diarrhea passed out felt like I was going to die. I'll never take it again. But it burns still bloated problem with urination and burning. Who do I contact? ## Hello, Rabbit! How are you? You need to inform your doctor and have this checked out, those are definitely not normal side effects of this medication. The FDA lists those as including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, stomach cramps and bloating. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I saw every one of those symptoms listed on like except I didn't vomit. Who are you to ask my doctor about what my experience was like during that moment that day. I'm the one that had this reaction! My medical privacy is mine, who are you to ask for my doctors name?

although I do not eat anything for at least 30 minutes before taking the medication, I do drink a few cups of coffee. Is this okay? Also, the Linzess worked the first day I took it and then 2 days later but has not worked for the last 7 days. Any ideas why? ## Hello, Troubled! How are you? No, you shouldn't drink coffee, either. The coffee, or anything else you ingest too soon may be preventing it from working properly. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, bloating, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Are you on any other medications?
