Linzess And Diarrhea

I was happy to learn that there was something I can take to help with my chronic constipation. Day 1... nothing really happened. Day 2.... slight BM. Day 3.... horrible diarrhea ... so bad I had to leave work... my butt was raw!! ... and burned so badly . These frighten me... that I have not taken the pill since that day... I also have had some episodes of nausea while on day 3. I'm wondering if this is how it is to take Linzess? It had really deterred me from continuing the drug. ## Yes, it can cause that as a side effect in some people that take it, according to both FDA and user reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and stomach pain. Are you on any other medications? Have you tried taking it, again?

I was on the 290mcg Linzess and the diarrhea and abdominal pain was unbearable. Doctor has since switched me to Trulance which just came out. Having regular bowel movements with no pain or diarrhea. Doesn't need to be taken with food either. I have fought this for years and for the first time in a long time it's manageable.

I have been on Linzess for a month. My dose is now 1 every other day. I am still waiting to see if the diarrhea subsides on the new dose. I have had another problem which started about 5 days in. My hips started aching. Since then I have having muscle tension in my shoulders and upper back. I dont' want to give up on the Linzess, but am concerned about the muscle aches. Is the diarrhea caused by the Linzess dehydrating me. My urine output seems normal. Or could I be reacting to something in the Linzess? ## Hi Karen, Sorry to hear about the muscle aches/diarrhea. From what I could gather, both diarrhea and stomach pain are reported to be common but potentially severe side effects of Linzess (Linaclotide) that you should talk with your doctor about if the symptoms do not go away on th...

Has anyone had any realistic, but odd dreams upon just drifting off to sleep? I just started the 290mcg. Took it 2 days in the AM...nothing, just more bloating but it did help some with the pain. However after reading up some, and considering my work schedule, I thought I should switch to a bedtime dose. WELL...Its working now! But thats ok! I think most of us agree after suffering with being back up for years, hey, whats a lil diarrhea. Problem is, I awoke...well tried to..from a most horrific dream, right upon drifting off. Im usually not a vivid dreamer. Anyone else have this AT ALL? ## Hello, Kris! How are you? Yes, others have reported having this happen, while taking Linzess and it's actually fairly common with most medications, since they often have a direct effect on brain c...

First time I tried it as prescribed once in the morning ...no luck. ## Hello, Vanessa! How are you? I'm sorry it didn't work for you. Did you make sure to take it on an empty stomach, with just water, at least a half hour before eating? Sometimes, people haven't been receiving the proper instructions with their prescriptions, so they don't know they have to take it that way. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, bloating and diarrhea. ## Reading some of the comments may be my answer. I take Linzess 30 minutes before breakfast and can go nowhere for 3 or 4 hours because of sudden diarrhea - so embarrassing! My hope is taking it at bedtime like a few said may be my answer. Pharmacists and doctors know little but trial & error. ...

Chronic constipation with 40-50 lbs weight gain... Linzess works with explosive diarrhea within an hour of taking it but doesn't seem to resolve the problem. It makes me go from feeling 9 months pregnant to 6 months pregnant. Also have a new side effect of the drug (or the constipation) which is acne on my shoulders and back. Tries lots of otc remedies and natural remedies with no luck. Dr gave me linzess and like I said it works but not completely. The 145 dose seems to work while the 290 did not, so i went back to 145 and same results. I am fit. Used to do 1000 sit ups a day...now can't manage 20 due to the bloat and weight gain...frustrated and worried. I am a big guy...6'7"...should be 230# but am weighing in at about 280# which has been increasing over the past 6-7 ...

I have gastroparesis and have been on Linzess for a year and a half. It worked ok until recently. Now I'm not going at all. Can I drink water the 30 minutes before my first meal. Most of the time I don't eat much. ## Hello, Donna! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you're having. It works best taken on an empty stomach, with just a sip of water. Typical side effects, as listed by the FDA may include nausea, dizziness, diarrhea and stomach pain. At this point, it would be best to consult your doctor, many people have reported a similar issue. For some people it only works for a few weeks, but sometimes it works longer, but few are having long-term good luck with it Are there any other questions or concerns? ## Thanks for replying. It is now giving diarrhea and ...

Linzess was prescribed by my pcp, 1 capsule every other day for oic. It works within about 4 to 5 hrs and works just fine, no sidefects what so ever. The medicine works just fine for OIC. So whatever you people are experiencing has got to be a fluke, the medicine works just fine. ## We are all different, so a medication that works well for you may not work great for someone else that tries it. Have you experienced any side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, bloating, diarrhea, and abdominal pain that the FDA lists as being common with this medication?

I was told by my gastro doctor to take linzess 30 minutes before I eat anything on a empty stomach. but it not working. he didn't tell me how much water to drink or whether I should drink something with my meal or not ## Hello, Clyde! How are you? I'm sorry that it isn't working for you. The manufacturer states that it can be taken with 1 ounce of water, or you can open the capsule and sprinkle the beads over a teaspoon of room temperature apple sauce, a half hour before eating or drinking anything else. And yes, when you do eat, you can have a beverage with your meal, as usual. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, flatulence, cramping, and diarrhea. I have Gastroparesis, pelvic floor dysnersia, and chronic ideopathic constipation. I had been taking 4 capfuls of miralax daily (which stopped working), amitiza (never worked) and now Linzess. The very first day it caused severe pain and I had pretty severe diarrhea. The next few days & nights I had severe abdominal pain, but now just cramping and lots of bloating. I have not had ANY movements at all since the diarhea on day 1. Is this normal? ## I hope your seeing a gastroenterologist and if so CALL the doctor. ## Hi GPcrusader, Sorry to hear about your situation. From what I've read on other related threads, the time it takes for Linzess to work actually varies greatly for each and every individual. However, I do agree with Amber in that it might be a good idea to touch base w...

When I take linzess with food it gives me severe diarrhea Will this be sufficient to clear me out for a colonoscopy ? ## Hello, Jen! How are you? It would be best to double check with your doctor. Sometimes that doesn't fully cleanse, so something else may still be required. Other side effects of Linzess, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, bloating and flatulence. Is there anything else I can help with? ## It's best to take Linzess 30 mins to an hour prior a meal and not with food, as directed by the label. My friend is a pharm rep for it and he says this is important. When I first started taking it I thought alternating days would help but he said it's important to take it every day and that eventually the severe diarrhea should subside. He was ri...

Taking linzess for two weeks. I feel great. No more bloating. No side effects, although do make sure you take it 30mins before your first meal of the day or you could have some of the side effects worsen. ## Taking it closer to a meal could also result in it not being as effective. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, bloating and diarrhea. Is it still working well for you? ## Hi, I've had terrible bloating along with the constipation for a while and I started up on lizness about 4 days ago. I was curious if you had bloating when starting out and then it got better after the 2 weeks or was it just good since you started? (Sorry for writing so much)

I have been taking Linzess for over a month now, highest dose. Have had IBS my whole life. I drink water all day long. I am peeing about every hour! I still have 4-5 days without a bowel movement then constipation followed by diarrhea. When I am able to have a bowel movement for a few days in a row, I feel so much pressure in my abdomen, like I have gas or have to go to the bathroom but can not go. I am so much more uncomfortable than before I started taking linzess. Has anyone else experienced this. ## Hello, Cindy! How are you doing? I am sorry about what you've been going through, but no you are not the first person to experience these issues. The gas, and abdominal pressure, can be normal side effects of this medication, according to FDA reports. You may also continue to experie...

I have a back problem and am taking pain meds that constipated me. Filling up until impaction and then blasting it out with potassium citrate, etc. Under the Doctor's guidance I reduced the pain meds and started Linzess. I did a clean out and then started the Linzess 3 days ago. So far nothing, no BM. I am on the 145 dosage. How long does it take this medication to work? I am taking it on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before breakfast. ## Hello, John! How are you? Usually, people see results with first dosing. Are you taking it with water? You may need to try to higher dose. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, weight loss, bloating and diarrhea.

Let me know if you can how things worked out with taking linzess and getting ahead of parasites. ## Hello, Tova! How are you? I was just prescribed Linzess for my IBS. I am wondering if others on this medicine have experienced wieght gain? ## Actually, since it usually causes gastrointestinal side effects, including diarrhea, it's usually known to cause the opposite problem of weight loss. You should also be informed that some people develop serve, ongoing diarrhea, so you need to watch out for that and contact your doctor if it happens. Learn more Linzess details here. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I've gained 4 pounds in 3 days since I started taking Linzess. I am on weight watchers so I count points so I know it is not my food intake. how long does it take to work ## Hello, Oscar! How are you? Linzess is not actually intended to be used for weight loss, so there is no time frame I can give you for this. It is used to treat symptoms of IBS that are associated with constipation. And while that may cause weight loss, in some instances, it can be dangerous to try to lose weight via giving yourself diarrhea, since it creates the risk of malnourishment and dehydration. Common side effects to this drug may include nausea, dizziness and stomach pain. Was it prescribed for weight loss? ## I just received a sample from the dr to help with my weight loss, however, I am shocked at ALL the side affects from people of.horrible weight gain! I am confused, can you please help explain? ## I have IBS. Been taking linzesss for a month....

There is no harm in trying it that way, if your doctor approves of your doing so. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, bloating, stomach pain and diarrhea. However, have you tried just using fiber supplements?
