this is going back 13 years but I think it screwed up my brain. A doctor prescribed me 100 mg of Lexapro because she convinced me that all of my anxiety was learned from my mother and would go away with Lexapro. Well she kept upping and upping until I was taking 100mg a day for a long time. I was manic out of my mind and drinking like crazy. She was giving me free samples out of her closet. Who knows what she wrote in my notes. I bet her notes said I was on 10.... Could that have messed up my brain chemistry long term? My friend was a rep for Lexapro and she said it was too much but I trusted this counselor so I continued. ## In the U.S., you do have the right to view your medical records, though if you request a copy for yourself, they are allowed to charge you for them. Thus, you can ...

I have been on 30 mg of lexapro for years and it has worked great for mg anxiety and obsessive thoughts, I have been on 10 and 20 before but 30 seemed to work but it has been a couple years, however I am tired and need to sleep 9-10 hours consistently to feel good, I was wondering if lowering to 25 mg you think would be just as good for Anxiety and thoughts and maybe make me a little less tired? And any withdrawals dripping down 5 mg, thanks guys and let me know! ?? ## Hello, John! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're having sleeping. However, after being on it for years, the Lexapro should no longer be causing such a side effect. The FDA lists its typical ones as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes, but they usually only last ...

Is this an allergic reaction ? I took lexapro years ago with no problem. ## Hello, Brina! How are you? Since there are no hives or rash, it is most likely not an allergic reaction. However, this medication has been known to cause other skin conditions as side effects, according to the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to switch to a different medications.

Is Cilentra 10 exactly the same as lexapro 10? I have been taking lexapro for years but my new insurance company sent Cilentra ## Yes, they both contain the active ingredient Escitalopram, which is an SSRI antidepressant. The Cilentra is just manufactured by Ranbaxy, who have been slowly getting more of their foreign medications approved by the FDA for availability in the U.S. This is one of their most recent approvals. Is there anything else I can help with? ## i was using Clintra 10Mg for past one year now have stoped to take it as advsied by a doctor now am finding a severe drowsines trough out the day is this a impact of stoping this tablet ?? and what would be the remedy

Hi all, I am going to jump up to 10mg as my psychiatrist told me to start @ 5mg and go to 10 once I felt comfortable. This was because I have been on Paxil and Cymbalta but had to stop due to bad side effects. I have see a few effects with the 5mg (tiredness, issues with concentration, palpitations, increased anxiety) but none of the effects have been too bad and seem to have kind of been stabalized as I am on day 10 of 5 mg. Should I expect to go through it all again as I jump to 10mg? or will I be better off since I am only coming up from 5mg as opposed to jumping from 0mg to 5mg? ## Yes, it is likely that you will experience the side effects, again, if you up the dosage. That is what usually happens with most medications. They normally hit their peak at around 4 to 6 weeks, at a given...

I'd been having panic attacks for the past 2 months. Of course not doing anything about them they gradually got worse. I made 5 appointments and couldn't leave the house to get to them. Today my husband went with me :) I started on lexapro 10 mg. Can't wait for it to kick in and work!! ## Hello, Teagal! How are you doing? It's great that you finally made it to the doctor to get help! :-) Way to go!!! As to the Lexapro, you should be warned that these types of medications can sometimes make things a bit worse, before they start to get better, so for the first couple of weeks you need to be careful and try to take it easy. If things get too bad, make sure to contact your doctor immediately. Learn more Lexapro details here. Other side effects to Lexapro may include nausea, ...

I have a history of anxiety/depression. After 2 life changing events I fell back into this funk. Was put on Luvox and it worked fine. Then had another loss with a company rightsizing and was laid off and have since moved back into home with parents (I am 40). Without insurance started going to local psychiatrist who decided I was Bipolar. To make long story short..........wrong diagnosis. After a month and a half on Latuda which has sent me spiraling down even further into depression and hopelessness, my parents got involved and with blessing of my psychologist (who also didn't think I was Bipolar) we weaned me off of Latuda and onto 10 mg Lexapro after much research. I've been on for 2 weeks and have suffered the nausea, dizziness and loss of weight and right now after 2 1/2 mo...

Hi, I went to the doctor today and was prescribed 5mg of Lexapro. I am a senior in college and am fairly social. I typically go out to parties and/or the bar a couple times a week, and when I do, I usually have anywhere from 6-10 drinks. I usually get pretty drunk if I'm being quite honest. The main reason I am posting is because my 21st birthday is next weekend (nine days away). I plan on having a party and want to have a good time, but also don't want to put myself in danger. My doctor told me I could just take half a dose that day (2.5 mg) and only drink like three drinks (which I know won't happen) or wait until after my birthday to start taking the Lexapro. I would like to start taking now, but also don't want to have something bad happen/act a complete fool on my b...

These pharmaceutical companies have to be held accountable. Not only do I believe they are trying to help you only just a smidget, I believe they are more about making medicine to hook you and make it very difficult to get off of them! I started Lexapro 20 mg in 2010 for anxiety. After reading the many reviews, I am convinced all my troubles that have developed since, are Lexapro related, NO DOUBT! I am weening off as I speak, I am down to 10 mg. and can already feel a difference. I'm not going to write a story, but here goes the symptoms I had. Body and head 'zaps' mostly at night. EXTREME sweating. Cottonmouth and feeling thirsty 24/7 and never being able to quench it. My eyeballs dried up and I would sometimes wake up with my eyes crusted shut, eye doctor told me he never...

I'd been on 10 mg. Lexipro for about 3 years and felt great. But then my doctor switched me over to generic Celexa because the clinic where I get my meds no longer has Lexipro available (Forest Pharmaceuticals no longer supplies it due to costs). Since switching to Celexa, I feel awful - nervous, uptight, and obsessive. I want to try generic Lexapro because I can afford it, but I hear it's not as good as the name brand. Anyone had any luck with it? ## Hello, When it comes to generic medications it is permitted by the FDA to be allowed to contain as much as 20% more or less of the actual active ingredient as well. For some people, these so-called subtle differences are the equivalent of taking a completely different medication that may be absorbed and metabolized differently with...

My MD started me on Lexapro a little more than a month ago. Started at 5 mg and I got such paranoia that I quit. On follow-up exam he suggested 2.5 mg and I've been doing that for about 3 weeks. Today I upped it to 5 mg. He was talking as high as 40 mg. I see no reason for anyone taking that amount especially with what I'm reading about rats coming down with retinal degeneration and adrenal failure, plus all the symptoms that come from withdrawals. I will stop at 10 mgs. I don't have social anxiety, I have a problem with motivation which I guess stems from some type of depression. ## My heel hurt so back got ## Hello, CatAddict! How are you? Lab animals are usually given far greater amounts than the therapeutic doses, so you can't really go by that. As to why some people...

I am on 10 mg of lexapro which I take when I wake up. I got a head cold and took 2 nyquil at 11:30pm. I didn't even think about the meds till after. I'm a little nervous because I looked it up after the fact. It's been about 20 mins I hope I'll be ok. ## @ro pal, I'm really glad you took some time to post this because there actually is a drug interaction listed between Lexapro and Nyquil. The University of Maryland Medical Center states that using the two together may increase blood levels of dextromethorphan (one of the main active ingredients in Nyquil) potentially increasing your risk of serious adverse effects. On the bright side it sounds to me like you probably had enough time in between doses to not be too concerned about this interaction, but Umm.edu goes on ...

My doctor put me on 10 mg of Lexapro after I started school and my anxiety was getting pretty bad. I have not ever had problems with depression besides the occasional sadness or bad day. Lexapro worked so well for my anxiety as soon as I started taking it. About a month into taking this drug I met the love of my life. I was very happy and life just seemed perfect. About 9 months later, I decided everything was going so well that I would stop taking Lexapro. For two weeks I cut my dose in half and then quit taking it cold turkey. Biggest mistake I have ever made. For the first couple weeks I felt great, still happy as ever, me and my boyfriend had had many conversations about getting married and making future plans for about the past 4 months. Then one day I woke up and it's like a s...

I am switching from Lexapro to Pristiq with my Pdoc. He recommended that I drop from my regular 20 mg of lexapro to 10mg and go to 50mg of pristiq. He said after 2 weeks drop the lexapro altogether. is this safe? is it too fast? I take 2 10mg tablets. Should I maybe go to 15mg--10mg-5mg-0? How have other people made the transition with minimum problems? ## How long have you been taking Lexapro for? From my perspective I think what your doctor recommend is fine. What's safe for "you" may not necessarily be safe for someone else (and vise versa, because everyone is different). If you're tapering your Lexapro dose down to 10mg from 20mg within 2 weeks, in my opinion, that seems to be a sufficient time frame to re-adjust. If tapering the dose really concerns you though, I wo...

I have been taking Lexapro 10 mg for a year. It controls my anxiety wonderfully. I started having itching (small bumps on my lower legs) which the dermatologist says are normal. I've also begun to have itching on my arms, my buttocks, my upper legs - pretty much all over. Has anyone ever heard of Lexapro causing these symptoms? ## Hello, Kathleen! How are you? Yes, it can cause itching as a side effect in some people that take it. After being on it for such a long time, if it hasn't gone away, you most likely need to speak to your doctor about trying a different medication. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was just wondering if anyone has drank with this med and were there any side effects? I've been on lexapro 10 mg for a month and am feeling great but I am petrified to even attempt to drink alcohol, but would like to try. So if anyone could help that would be great. ## I have been on Lexapro for 3 years. I drink about twice a week and everything seems to be fine. I have noticed that if you drink heavly for a few nights in a row you will feel a slight depression. Just don't over do it. I was worried at first also. ## Lexapro is an antidepressant. Drinking alcohol is not recommended, as alcohol is a major depressant, and undoes the work the medication does. ## Never do that! I was on that medicine for 2 years, and I was never able to drink! the first time I drank when I was on l...

I take 10 mgs of lexapro and was wondering if 5mgs of flexeril would interact? I weigh about 140 lbs and am 5'8. I do not take anything else. My mom gave me a flexeril to help with some muscle spasms in my back but I don't want to take it if it interacts. ## No, these medications should not be taken together, as it increases the risk of your developing Serotonin Syndrome, which has the potential to be fatal. Thus, if your doctor hasn't prescribed them both for you, it could be very dangerous for you to take them, according to FDA reports. It would be best to consult your physician to see what you can safely take. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been on Lexapro for a year and a half now 10 mg...I was wondering if anybody has had the side affect of weight gain I have gained 40 lb. since I have been on it..the strange thing is I don't do any binge eating or over eat due to my acid reflux...next doctors appointment I am going to ask to be put down to 5mg...it's so hard to go on the treadmill when you don't have any energy or will power..my anxiety is under control its my depression that gets me down and I just feel like sleeping all day..?? ## Some people have reported weight gain as a side effect and the FDA does not it among the possible ones, though it is not very common. Others are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. What other medications have you tried?

Hi all! I've been on Lexapro for 5 1/2 weeks (2.5 on 10 mg and 2.5 on 15mg) for generalized anxiety disorder. The first time I started taking Lexapro I took 10 mg and it worked fantastically, I then stopped taking it because I felt so great (rookie mistake). This time around I feel like it's doing a lot less to manage my anxiety. I'm certainly better than I was 5 1/2 weeks ago but not where I'd like to be. Should I give it more time or try taking something else? I'm not thrilled of the process that comes along with switching medications. Thanks in advance for the help! ## If it's been over 5 weeks and it's not helping as much as it should, then that likely means you need to try something else. The general rule is that it should reach its level of therapeutic ...

I have recently been prescribed Lexapro for depression and my doctor said to start with 10 mg for 7 days and then I could go onto 20 mg. Does this sound correct for prior uses? I am already afraid. ## Why are you afraid? That is normal dosage escalation. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and weight changes. Are you on any other medications?
