Levothyroxine Withdrawal

I have been taking Levothyroxine .88mg for the past two years. I just left town on a three week vacation and realized I left this prescription at home. Should I be concerned? ## If you suddenly stop taking Levothyroxine, your body can go through withdrawal. "Levothyroxine withdrawal may cause hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid. Hypothyroidism causes weight gain, fatigue, depression and sensitivity to cold because your body does not have enough thyroid hormone so your body processes slow down. Patients with thyroid cancer may suffer acute hypothyroidism because of levothyroxine withdrawal." I had stopped taking the Levothyroxine for four days because I was out of town. On the fourth day I had a severe itching or like a nat biteing me all over my body but no rash. could this have been caused from suddenly stopping the medication? ## Hello, Connie! How are you? Yes, that is possible, other withdrawal effects as listed by the FDA may possibly include dizziness, headache and diarrhea. Why didn't you take a supply with you? You really shouldn't skip days of this medication.

I have been on levo for 2 1/2 years. Started at 75 for about a year and a half. I got a new dr and dose was upped to 100, then 125 for last six months. I have also been dealing with menopause, I THINK. In the last 5 months I have had trouble falling asleep, jittery, nervous energy. I have worked outdoors in the heat with no problems. Now that I look back, I have had a hard time in the heat since I started levo. A couple months ago I weaned off of cymbalta and after those withdrawals were over, I started getting naseau and migraine. Has anyone else experienced heat problems? And is there a natural med for hypothyroidism? ## Hi Lisa, Sorry to hear about your situation. According to the US National Library of Medicine, "sensitivity to heat" is listed as a serious side effect of Lev...

I stopped taking 1 mg clonazepam one/day maybe five-six days ago because I have a back injury which has flared up and I had to take hydrocodone.... I also take zolpidem and lisinopril and levothyroxine regularly and was taking benedryl for allergies.... I quit taking the benedry and clonazempam because a nurse friend of my friend said they should not all be taken together. Originally I was also on prozac 20mg. I started most of these when my husband died suddenly a few years ago. The last few days I thought I had the flu really bad because I had terrible joint and muscle aches, then horrendous headaches and a continuous slight nausea. Starting yesterday, I have had repeated panic attacks and I am scared.... I called the clonazepam hotline for help and they really just have volunteers an...

Hi all, first time posting. Thanks for reading. I have been on suboxone (will call SB bc I don't like "bupe" or "subs"... they just sound like using talk to me and I'm trying to avoid that, nothing against anyone, just my thing...) So today I woke up, took my spironolactone, wellbutrin, abilify, adderall, provigil, and 2mg SB bc I'm trying to taper off. Then I remembered I'm out of the armor thyroid that I switched to about 6 months ago, so I took my levothyroxine. I then took 2 tylenol, had black coffee, green tea with splenda, and toast. A couple minutes later I used the off brand monostat for a yeast infection I'm sure I have, but haven't been to the md yet, and some hydrocortisone. I also smoked about 1/4 of a cigarette... after a few minutes ...

I have been on Clopidogrel 75mg after having a slight heart attack thought to have been caused by a blood clot in a small junction, my cholesterol was ok, pumping action ok, nothing needed to be done. I have been told to stop Clopidogrel and cardiologist said ok to stop it suddenly. I am 57 but also hypothyroid on 25mcg levothyroxine. Also on aspirin 75mg day. I tried coming off 4 weeks ago by taking only 3/4 of a tablet after reading its best to do it slowly but after a few days had an anxiety attack, I ended up going back on the full tablet. I have been taking 3/4 tablet a day again but getting tense and anxiety back again and indigestion. Feeling a bit yucky but worried its withdrawal from Clopidogrel. Or is it just anxiety due to hypothyroid, its driving me nuts. I keep belching and...

I have been on Levothyroxine (100mcg) for over a year and half. Recently my doctor had me tested to see where my thyriod level was. Aparently I tested a little hyperthyroid (although I didn't notice any symptoms) so she reduced the dosage to 75mcg. That was about 5 weeks ago. Since then I have been gaining weight and struggling to have energy to workout, although I'm forcing myself to keep my same workout routine. I didn't have to force myself before. Has anyone experienced this? I'm supposed to get tested again after being on the 75mcg for 8 weeks. Is the 25mcg difference that big a difference? I ## Yes, it can make a big difference. Your body was used to the prior dosage and you suddenly switched to a lower one, so basically your are experiencing some mild withdrawal s...

I was one Levothyroxin for four years and recently found out my throid was/is normal and I never should have been on the medication. What are the risk of taking it when not needed and the doctor abruptly took me off the medicine ## Because Levothyroxine is a thyroid hormone that is used to treat hypothyroidism (a condition where the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone), in the worst case scenario, I think there is a good chance of experiencing symptoms that are more so associated with hyperthyroidism. Other than that, some patients have reported withdrawal effects that may be associated with taking Levothyroxine. How long has it been since you stopped taking the medication?
