I had a total Thyroidectomy and take 100mcg of Levothyroxzine and I am experiencing weight loss. Is anyone else having this? ## I did respond to your other post, but will answer here as well, just in case you don't see that one. Weight loss, for some people, is a normal side effect of this drug, not everyone gains weight on it.

I had my thyroid removed in 2004 im currently taking 100 mcg's of levothyroxine and for the past 4 months i've rapidly losst weight do i need to have my dosage lowered or increased. I feel depressed all the time and have no energy i dont know what to do i dont want to lose anymore weight i actually want to gain my weight back what do i do? ## Let me say that I can understand what you described and how you feel. I also had a full thyroidectomy and while I have not had the drastic changes you've experienced I have had weight fluctuation as well as what I would call moodiness. How closely are you being followed by your endocrinologist(s)? If you have rapid weight loss combined with depression I would call the endocrinologist and get all of the nece...

Levothyroxine, also known as L-thyroxine, is a manufactured form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4).[2][5] It is used to treat thyroid hormone deficiency (hypothyroidism), including Hashimoto's disease and a severe form known as myxedema coma.[2] It may also be used to treat and prevent certain types of thyroid tumors.[2] It is not indicated for weight loss.[2] Levothyroxine is taken by mouth or given by intrav...

03/14/2015, Been on Levo 50mcg for 6 months and gained 15lbs which seems to be water. doc 3 days ago increased dosage to 75mcg. I was having heart rhythm problems and now they are worse. Forgot to mention hair loss. I think this drug is terrible and I am going to try to get on Armour. ## Hello, Glo! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. However, you should be aware that Armour Thyroid might cause the same side effects, hair loss, weight gain, nausea, headache and heart rhythm changes or elevation are all possible, as listed by the FDA. It may work better for you, the only way to find out is to try it and see, I just want you to be aware that you may still experience these symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for the info, wo...

I had two radio-iodine treatments to kill my thyroid, which was extremely over active, approx. 6 yrs ago. I have been on Levthyroxine for about 5-1/2 yrs now and do not experience the things a lot of you are. No hair loss (I have very thick hair), no dizziness, panic attacks, etc. HOWEVER I am going through menopause now also (at 53) and can't lose weight, the insomnia is rather bad along with the night sweats. Could it be from menopause? I check my levels every 6 months with my Dr. as I recommend everyone to do. I'm going to ask him about Synthroid next time I'm in. He will not prescribe a higher dose than what I have now (112 mg) as he doesn't want the Levothyroxine to affect my joints/bones in the long run and my TSH levels he keeps on the higher side already. The wei...

Why are woman prescribed levothyroxine more often than men? ## Women are the ones that most commonly develop thyroid issues, at least according to NIH studies, though I supposed it is possible that they may also just see a doctor more often and end up being diagnosed more than men. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes, and hair loss. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking this for yeas, suddenly, I've developed a rash that comes and goes, and wonder id\f anyone else has had this problem.....my doctor has prescribed prednisone, but I think my dosage is to high....help ## Hello, Harvey! How are you? Skin rash can be a side effect of this medication, but it is a normal one and doesn't necessarily mean that your dosage is too high, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience dizziness, weight changes and hair loss. When were your levels last checked? Your dosage should be dependent on them.

I'm changing from Armour Thyroid to generic Levothyroxine. Any feedback as to the quality of the manufacturer, Amneal? I'm a little dizzy, and my eyes hurt and are very dry. ## They are a reputable manufacturer, but Armour Thyroid and Levothyroxine are not exactly the same, though they do treat the same conditions, so it is normal that you may experience some side effects, when you first switch. Other side effects to Levothyroxine may include weight changes, nausea, and loss of facial hair. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? ## I changed from Amour Thyroid to Nature-Throid. Amour changed the inert ingredients and I became allergic to them. I am now on Nature-Throid and it is excellent. ## I have found that I can only take the Mylan brand for some reason. Pharmacy...

Tan capsule shaped imprinted with M on one side and L scoremark and 10 on the other Is this the 125mcg strength? ## Generic tablets DO NOT have a color code, the colors actually don't mean anything. They are identified solely by the imprints on the tablets. That said, yes, this tablet does contain 125mcgs of Levothyroxine, a generic for Unithroid. Common side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, weight gain and hair loss. You can read more on the medication here: Is there anything else I can help you with?

I've taken this drug for sometime now, or at least one with a very similar look. Originally I had to be represcribed Levoxyl because of a DYE used in mfg.that made me itch profusely. Is it reasonable to demand name brand from the insurance. Any advice would be extremely appreciated. ## Hello, Shamsrumi! How are you? Are you having a problem with the generics? The only way most insurance plans will cover the name brand is if it's medically necessary. This medication is used to treat thyroid disorders and the FDA states that its most common side effects may include nausea, dizziness, weight changes, mood swings and hair loss. ## Hello. I need your help with the same condition that everyone complains about here. I also have Hypothyroid and are on Levothyroxine Sodium 112 mcg 1/day ...

I couldn't find orig script at the time of my appt. should I tell my Dr about what my orig script was or just take what she has percribed. ## The dosage is based on your levels at testing, so you should take the one that is prescribed. I had been on the same levothyroxine prescription for about 25 years. In the last 3 years my medication has had to be readjusted 3 times. Now I am back on a lower dose and wanted to know if I can still use the previous, leftover supply that has expired about 1-2 years ago? ## Hello, Laurene! How are you? Medications tend to lose effectiveness over time and since treating a thyroid disorder is so touchy, it would be best to dispose of the expired ones and obtain a new supply. I have had a partial thyroidectomy. Was started on levothyroxine 50 mcg. Now up to 150mcg. I had a mirena put in and periods stopped before my thyroid issues started and did not have a period. Swapped to brand synthroid and they started back after about 3 or 4 months. A year later I swapped back to levothyroxine and they stopped again. My tsh was elevated and my doctor recommended I go to brand necessary synthroid and 4 months later my periods have started back. ## That can be a normal side effect of the medication changes, and your original thyroid issue, according to FDA reports. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes, mood swings, and hair loss. Are you on any other medications?
