Hi, I am 24. We were planning to ttc soon so I went for a Pap smear & my doctor said to do blood test in which I was diagnosed with low thyroid & then I started to take levothyroxine! This is my second week on medication! The day before I first started to take levothyroxine I had spotting which should have turned into a period but as I started taking the medication the spotting was stopped & I didn't have my periods! My lmp was December 11th, I did not have a period since then! My doctor is saying I might have pcos too which is making my periods late! So I wanted to know when will I start getting my regular periods? Doctor told me to not get pregnant for at least 4 months so we've planned to start ttc-ing from June onwards! But still I don't have any sign of my p...

I have had a partial thyroidectomy. Was started on levothyroxine 50 mcg. Now up to 150mcg. I had a mirena put in and periods stopped before my thyroid issues started and did not have a period. Swapped to brand synthroid and they started back after about 3 or 4 months. A year later I swapped back to levothyroxine and they stopped again. My tsh was elevated and my doctor recommended I go to brand necessary synthroid and 4 months later my periods have started back. ## That can be a normal side effect of the medication changes, and your original thyroid issue, according to FDA reports. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes, mood swings, and hair loss. Are you on any other medications?

Earlier this year, I found out I have hypothyroidism. I went to my doctor over some weird periods that would wind up doing things like not coming for three months and then bleeding nonstop for three months. I got my thyroid levels tested twice and with a final TSH of 14.5, my gyno put me on 25 mcg of Levothyroxine (she was going to do Synthroid, but since my insurance was going to expire, I asked for the generic). After being on it one month, I was retested and my TSH went down to 5.07. Doctor said it was close enough to normal and that I'd be sticking to that dose long-term, and then I got a three month supply of pills. I didn't feel different whatsoever after taking the pills, even after I'd finished off the bottle. I suppose it's good I had no side effects, but I also...

Do I have to worry about missing my period while on levothyroxine, since that might be the reason why I missed it? ## Hi. I'm 34 yrs old and I've been on levothyroxine tablets for some 2-3 months. I've been on my period for 5 days with back pain and feeling very crampy. What should I do? Please help me. ## @Cherie, If missing your period becomes a regular thing, I would encourage you to consult your prescribing doctor and/or a gynecologist who specializes in the female reproductive system; more or less just to be on the safe side. However, my understanding is that missing periods may be more common when taking things that alter your hormones. NIH also lists "menstrual changes" as a less common side effect of Levothyroxine. @Fayola, According to NIH, "pain or disc...
