I've been taking Levothyroxine 150 mcg (hypothyroidism) for the past ten years. Up until a month and half ago my doctor increased my medication to 2 mg. I'm noticing a high volume of hair loss, does this ever stop? Will the hair loss issue, subside? Very concerned. ## Unfortunately, hair loss is a normal side effect of this medication and, while not everyone experiences it, it usually does not subside, most people do experience it as long as they continue to take the medication. It tends to be a more severe problem at higher dosages, so it may abate if your dosage is lowered in the future, but there is really no way to say with any certainty, since everyone is different. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? ## It does stop after awhile on it and your body adjusts to th...

Im hvng fatigue, dry skin, hair loss, soar throat. Im an indian n vegetarian . Pls tell me wt kind of diet n fitness regime i shud follw 2 stay fit. Im more concernd of hair loss. Thnx ## With your symptoms, you sound like you may be suffering hyperparathyroidism. You should get a calcium level along with a PTH level. Have you had surgery to remove one or more of the parathyroids. You have a total of 4 parathyroids and one or more could have turned into benign tumors (adenomas). If you're still having symptoms then there is still something wrong.

my story when i was diagn with hypothyriod with family dr and was given 50 mg but after still under i was taking 75mg , refer dr put me back on 50 mg and now i got new direction while still using 50mg by 3 days*75mg = 25+50mg n 50mg for 4dy ## Hello, Banana! How are you doing? If they are taking blood samples regularly to check your thyroid levels, it is completely normal for your doctor to adjust the dosage accordingly. There isn't one set dosage that you can be given, since the hormone levels fluctuate, the medication dosage must be changed to compensate. Is there anything else I can help with?

how does the pill look like? ## my precription was refilled . the first capsule was light in color, now the new refill is Lighjt orchid . Doe this matter? ## Just to clear this up, no the colors don't actually mean anything. That is something that is entirely up to the whit and whim of the manufacturer. If a new refill of the same medication in the same dosage is a different color, then it's most likely also from a different manufacturer. Learn more Levothyroxine details here. Anybody that isn't sure is welcome to post the details on the pill, including the imprints on them and someone will gladly double check for you. Are there any comments or questions? Can someone please explain what the difference is between taking 100mg of levothyroxine 7 days a week versus taking 112mg of levothyroxine 4 1/2 days a week? I was originally taking 110 mg everyday and then my endo increased it to 112 mg everyday. After lab work showed my TSH level was now under the normal range my endo told me to take 112 mg 4 1/2 days a week (M, T, F, Sat and 1/2 on Sun). Is there a reason for not taking it two days in a row? Although the mg are higher the weekly total has actually decreased. So what is the reasoning behind the way endo's have to take this medication? ## Hello, Erika! How are you? Your doctor is trying to keep your levels in the normal range, without going too high or too low. It's been found that dosing this way can work better, in some peopl...

I was initially diagnosed with an under active thyroid and prescribed 25 mg tlevothyroxine, after sleeping most of the day and night it was eventually increased to 100mg.. 3 months ago I developed severe insomnia, different levels of consciousness making walking difficult, muscle weakness, severe heat and cold intolerance, rapid weight gain severe constipation and other symptoms also. Things came to a head 3 weeks ago and I stopped taking the drug altogether/ In the first week my strength came back in my muscles, I began to sleep again and my consciousness was much heightened. But then I slowly went downhill. On day 13 my voice almost disappeared, my neck muscles had tightened making swallowing very difficult and walking was very bad. I'm taking 137 mgs right now but when my thyroid was down the Dr. gave me a different mg level, but I can't remember if this is what it was, but it sure gave me energy and I lost weight, but then he changed it and said that I'm where I should be and if I continued it I would get osteoarthritis as the dr said that I'm right on the borderline. I wish I could remember the mgs, because I felt so good and didn't have any problems on that mg level and I ask him if I could go back on it and he said no. Thank You Linda ## Well, there is, of course, no way for us to know for sure, what that dosage was, but I am betting you just hit a dosage that worked better for you than your current one. Whether it was a higher or lower dosage, our bodies do sometimes do better with a certa...

I started on Levothyroxine about a month ago, 50 mg, but got severe headaches, so dropped the dose to 25 mg. I still feel exhausted but the headaches have nearly gone, but there is another very uncomfortable problem. I have severe itching in my nether regions, so bad that it is interfering with my life. I stopped taking the meds over the weekend, and the itching stopped. Now I am back on it, and the itching has returned, so it's definitely the Levo that's causing it. I have no transmitted diseases, no candida, no other reason for it. Will this fade in time, or do I have to accept that while I'm on thyroid meds, I will itch? It's awful... ## Hello, Cantsit! I had a total thyroid removal in June 2014. Was 1st put on 124mg of Levothyroxine, later 112 mg and swelling in both feet and legs began. My left leg looked like a stove pipe along with my swollen feet and toes. I developed hammer toes next to my large toe. Later I was placed on the 100mcg and the swelling continued. I spoke with my endorcrinologic who told me she could not help me but to speak with my general practitioner. To make a long story short I went to a heart doctor, had a mapping of my legs and found out I had small veins. I was told I had Lymphedema and was referred to a clinic. I did not go to this doctor. I started reading others emails on swelling and started cutting my pills like 3/4 in size on 10-20-2016. As of today I lost about 5lbs in weight and my right foot looks gr...

I have suffered with depression since beating cancer 2 years ago and all this weight gain and tiredness is just killing me. He said as my levels are back up i can stop it for a week without danger. But ive decided to stop it forever after the hell ive been through with cancer treatment and stem cell transplant im not going to live in pain anymore life is too short. I had two radio-iodine treatments to kill my thyroid, which was extremely over active, approx. 6 yrs ago. I have been on Levthyroxine for about 5-1/2 yrs now and do not experience the things a lot of you are. No hair loss (I have very thick hair), no dizziness, panic attacks, etc. HOWEVER I am going through menopause now also (at 53) and can't lose weight, the insomnia is rather bad along with the night sweats. Could it be from menopause? I check my levels every 6 months with my Dr. as I recommend everyone to do. I'm going to ask him about Synthroid next time I'm in. He will not prescribe a higher dose than what I have now (112 mg) as he doesn't want the Levothyroxine to affect my joints/bones in the long run and my TSH levels he keeps on the higher side already. The wei...

I'm 33, diagnosed with Hashimoto, started 25 mg of Levo a day - after two weeks of taking it, I was constantly out of breath, felt lightheaded and panicky, would wake up with rapid heat beating and out of breath in the middle of the night. (During those two weeks, my TSH dropped from 4.26 to 3.13, T 3 and T 4 as well - so, clinically, it was going in the right direction, perhaps only too abruptly). They made me wait for a couple of days and reduced my meds to 12.5 mg and last night (after taking the 12.5 mg dosage for only two days!) I was woken up with no breath, heart pounding, it felt like I was dying. I'm scared for my heart. I'm afraid to even go to sleep - the experience of waking up breathless was not pleasant at all. I'm seeing the doctor on Monday. I don't t...
