Hi everyone, I'm a sufferer from hypothyroidism; I was just wondering about how to take Levothyroxine; because I began taking it as one tablet of 25mcg....working up to two...then three...and then finally four 25mcg tablets, at which point a blood test told me through my doctor, that my thyroid was now apparently working well. I figured it would be OK for me now to take just one tablet, of 100mcg, rather than four ( was given a choice of both types). So once my 25mcg tablets started running to run out, that's what I did. However, whether I imagined it or not, I found myself happier on the four X 25mcg than the one X 100mcg. Is this normal? Should I worry? I have more or less run out of the 25mcg tablets for the time being...any suggestions what I might be going through, and what...

I took levothyroxine tablets for over 2 years then stopped. Why did I stop? Because they did absolutely nothing for me -- I kept gaining weight and continued to have all the same symptoms I had prior to taking them. BUT, the most important reason I stopped taking them was because I chewed a tablet (out of mere curiosity) and it tasted just like SUGAR! Oh so sweet. Hmmm...so why do they make a tablet taste like sugar when the instructions are to swallow it whole and NOT suck or chew it? (because they don't want you to discover it tastes like sugar). I believe that Levothyroxine and Synthroid (& most likely all other medication like these) are just SUGAR and that we are all being greatly DECEIVED. I recently went to my GP and she urged me to go back on Levothyroxine for my underac...

I am allergic to the dye in the 112mcg Synthroid tablets. Does anyone know of a 112mcg that is white??? Levothyroxine ? I am now taking 2 pills on 5 days and 3 pills on 2 days. 50mcg each. ## I am allergic to the dye as well, and should be on 112 mcg. too. I like your idea of 2 pills (white..50 mcg.) for 5 days, and 3 pills for 2 days. So glad you posted your idea. Splitting the pills just doesn't work. If any Manufactures are reading this, please refrain from putting dyes in meds!!! Serious side effects can result, and the dyes make it difficult for some of us to take the proper dosage amounts that are prescribed. ## Your pharmacy should be able to provide you with a dye free option, though they may have to order a supply in for you, so it is best to make sure to alert them to the ...

What are the numbers on the tabs? ## The marking will be different from manufacturer to manufacturer, since they all have to use a unique imprint. What are the markings on the tablets you have? Some markings include: M L10 JSP 519 and 3919 V But this is NOT a complete list, if you post back with the markings on the tablet you are questioning, I will gladly look it up for you! ## Why have chemists in u.k. given me two DIFFERENT BRANDS of levothyroxine (I take 125mg daily) EVERY time I get prescription past few years. THEY say its because they have to purchase 'cheapest' drug each week. I DON@T BELIEVE THIS. And stated that in the law of averages - they MUST have one drug company that sells both 100mg and 25mg cheaper than others in SAME WEEK. I believe this is a scam - to prevent...

My wife is taking Thyroxin Sodium 100 mg for thyroid manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline India. Now I am in Canada and was taking the same with the consultation of the Doctor. Now the test is done and the thyroid is low. Now the doctor recommended Synthroid 75 mcg. My question is that whether I can take Throxin sodium instead of synthroid. ## Hi Subhash, Based on my research, Synthroid contains Levothyroxine; which is a synthetic version of the thyroid hormone thyroxine. Thyroxine is the natural hormone that is secreted by the thyroid gland. I can understand why you prefer the Thyroxine since it's not synthetic, but if your doctor suggested that you take the Synthroid (75 mcg) I'm sure he/she's just trying to do what's in your best interest. Nonetheless, if you like how the ...

Need to know Manufactue's Name and Address ## Hello, Elvia! How are you? Are there any markings on the tablets that you're taking? Levothyroxine is a generic, so it is actually manufactured by several different companies and I couldn't possibly list them all for you. The FDA lists this medication as being used to treat thyroid disorders and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dry mouth, weight changes and hair loss.

HI, I'm taking amitriptyline for interstitial cystitis and have recently been diagnised with under active thyroid so am on Levothyroxine 50mg per night. My bladder is really playing up and I'm wondering if these tablets don't work well together? Has anyone experienced this. I don't know whether I've an infection or just need to increase my amitriptyline because its a flare up. Help please! ## The only interaction listed is that the Levothyroxine can actually make the Amitriptyline work better and some doctors have used it, therapeutically, to do so. All medications can affect people different, though, and this site is not medical professionals to pinpoint your problem. Have you spoken to your doctor about it, yet? ## I also have IC. I recieved a letter from my health care provider saying that i cannot continue getting Levothyroxine 50mcg tablet that theres a recall on that medication.I want to know the reason for the recall. ## I can't find any updated recall information for it, but there was one reported on April 28th, for the 150mcg tablets, so it is possible that a problem was also found with this one and it was added under that same recall. There has been an ongoing problem with Levothyroxine products, which has created the need for the recall and this problem has actually been occurring since the 1990's. The problem is actually two-fold. 1) They have regularly found stability and potency problems with them, regardless of the manufacturer or dosage. Most of them did not retain their proper potency up to...

Tan capsule shaped imprinted with M on one side and L scoremark and 10 on the other Is this the 125mcg strength? ## Generic tablets DO NOT have a color code, the colors actually don't mean anything. They are identified solely by the imprints on the tablets. That said, yes, this tablet does contain 125mcgs of Levothyroxine, a generic for Unithroid. Common side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, weight gain and hair loss. You can read more on the medication here: Is there anything else I can help you with?

is there a difference between levothyroxine tablets & thyroxine tablets? ## Hi Rose, From what I could gather, Levothyroxine (also known as L-thyroxine or T4), is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone "thyroxine", which is normally secreted by the follicular cells of the thyroid gland. So to answer your question, they are the same exact medication. However if they were manufactured by different companies, it's likely that each tablet contains a different set of inactive ingredients (otherwise known as binders/fillers). To my understanding, the different variations of these inactive ingredients, have a significant impact on the overall efficacy of certain medications. Do you happen to have any experience or feedback on either of these brands? You can learn more about th...

What are the markings on them? The excipients in tablets can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Can you please post back and clarify? I had 2 different pills. A white one and a pink one. I think I got them mixed up. Was suppose to take two 25mcg per day til gone. Then just one 50mcg per day. Please tell me which is which. Thank you. ## Hi, Granny! How are you? I'm sorry, but I can't tell you anything about them from just the colors, because they don't actually mean anything. Can you please post back with the markings on the tablets in question? If so, I can look them up for you to check the dosages. ## This one is pink with an M on one side and L 4 on the other. Do I have to worry about missing my period while on levothyroxine, since that might be the reason why I missed it? ## Hi. I'm 34 yrs old and I've been on levothyroxine tablets for some 2-3 months. I've been on my period for 5 days with back pain and feeling very crampy. What should I do? Please help me. ## @Cherie, If missing your period becomes a regular thing, I would encourage you to consult your prescribing doctor and/or a gynecologist who specializes in the female reproductive system; more or less just to be on the safe side. However, my understanding is that missing periods may be more common when taking things that alter your hormones. NIH also lists "menstrual changes" as a less common side effect of Levothyroxine. @Fayola, According to NIH, "pain or disc...
