I'm having surgery for knee replacement and this is the first time I've had surgery and general anaesthetic while on methadone. Can anyone advise me about the safety of this and how they will treat post-operative pain? ## I have had two surgerys while on methadone, you will be fine they gave me percocet for pain and it took the edge off which is what it should do, alot of people think they should be pain free after a surgrey while taking pain pills but that is not the case hope all goes well ## Hello. If you are on methadone maintenance for opiate addiction, you will need to tell the surgon so he/she knows how to treat your pain and your general sedation. Methadone won't help your post op pain, so he/she will have to prescribe another type of painkiller. One of the reasons i...

I have Osteoarthritis, possibly Fibromyalgia, and two knees that are bone-on-bone and need replacement. Even though I take Tramadol 300 ER daily and Arthrotec, 2 Tylenol, and 2 Aleve three times a day, I am still in pain. Forgetting to take meds or being out of meds for a day causes unbelievable aches everywhere except my fingers, elbows and toes. I cannot work and cannot sleep. I also get very emotional and angry and my BP goes up. I will soon be having my first knee replaced. The doctor said I will need to be off all the pain meds except for Tylenol. I do not believe I can do this. A couple times the doctor has given me steroids when I was having a flare up and it completely eliminated the swelling and pain. What medications could I safely take in the 2 weeks prior to knee replacement...

I just had knee replacement surgery. The surgeon gave me a script for norco 10/325. I also have a regular monthly script from my main Dr for the same medication. If I fill the one from the surgeon will I loose my regular script? ## If the dosing and dosing frequency are the same, then yes, it may cause a problem with both your regular doctor and the pharmacy. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Is Tarka an anticoagulant? I am getting a knee surgery on March 20th and I am supposed not to take any anticoagulant two weeks before March 20th. Should I stop my high blood pressure medicine for those two weeks? Please advise. ## Goodness no! Please consult your doctor. Tarka contains Trandolapril and Verapamil and while they do have some effect on circulation, they are not blood thinners. In addition, if your blood pressure is out of control, they will not perform the surgery. Did you talk to your doctor?

Started Xarelto a year ago after blood clots after breast cancer surgery. Having surgery again in a week and was taken off xarelto until after surgery. I am now scared to be off this drug. Do I need to be scared of new clots even before surgery? ## Hi there, I've been on Xarelto for three years after having a stroke while in AFIB. Whenever I have a surgery (colonoscopy and total knee replacement) my doctor either puts me on an injectable two days prior or just stop taking it a day before the procedure. By all means speak to your doctor and express your concerns. ## How many days before dental surgery should I stop taking Xarelto 20 mg and how soon should I start again?

if i stop taken suboxen 14hrs ago can i take 5mgs. oxy. imediate release now and will i get and feel the affects of the oxy? i recently had knee surgery and the pain is getting to me today. ## I REALLY NEEDA ANSWER TO THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. HELP HHELP HELP ## It is very doubtful, it's usually recommended that someone be off of the Suboxone for at least 24 hours, before taking another narcotic. This is due to the Naloxone in the Suboxone, which helps neutralize other opiates to prevent their abuse, while someone is under treatment with the Suboxone. Oxycodone is also a narcotic, so it may cause similar side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation. Are there any other questions or comments? ## If your on suboxone there's a reason for that no? Stay on keep...

I have torn cartilage in my knee and have been waiting for surgery for like 4 months now and I am finialy having it tommo , but have just fell and I'm in quite a bit of pain and wanted to take my tramadol I have left from when my leg used to hurt like this , is it safe to take before surgery ? ## Hello, Derek! How are you? Please don't take anything before surgery, without checking with your doctor or the surgeon. Anesthesia can be very touchy and there are many drugs that it can negatively interact with. Can you reach your doctor or surgeon? When do you have the surgery?

Having a total knee replacement done in March have tried every type of therapies for pain, including CORTISONE and ORTHOVISC, but nothing helps... Doctor put me on Norco (5mg. / 325 mg.). It takes the edge off of my pain. (Also forgot to mention I'm dealing with severe bursitis in my hip in which I'm having the knee replacement surgery done on...) But still in a lot of pain. Can I asked the Orthopedic Surgeon to up the dosage to 7.5 mg. / 325 mg.? Also, is it safe taking this medication for two months prior to my surgery? Need some relief from pain until March... (Had my other knee replaced 5 years ago and took Norco 10/325 for 5 weeks after surgery to help with pain especially during therapy.) Anyones advise on this question? Thanks Much! Happy New Year to All!!! :-) ## You can...

according to her directions and how many pills Im given. I haven't even had the surgeries yet but my pain has been unbearable considering these proven medical problems have been going on for 10+ years. Thank God for OHP, I finally have med insurance, which I hadn't had since 2004. This PCP even knew my old PCP that I had gone to and paying out of my pocket for help with pain management. I was on a 3yr pain contract with old PCP and she was always willing to help with adjusting pain med if they were not helping to keep pain under control. I do not understand why this (younger than me PCP will not even discuss with me about adjusting my pain meds.) She absolutely will not because she says she wouldn't want to have to send me to rehab to get me off of pain pills. Im sorry but W...

I had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical valve in 2014. Post surgery I was put on bisoporal and losartan (25mg). following really bad side effects with the bisoporal my cardiologist told me to stop immediately. He said i was put on these following surgery as this is normal pracrtice for 3 months following surgery. However I forgot to ask about the Losartan and so have continued with this for another year. My GP wouldnt take me off either as he said he wasnt a cardologist but my blood pressure is normal. I am so desperate now with continuing side effects painful legs, knees and migraine headaches dont see my cardologist for another year for checkup. A US pharmacy used to sell them. What ingredient was in the first version of Ortega that they sold? The pain was relieved after the first use, also helped my son with his pain after surgery on his cartilage on his knee. ## Correction - It was not a US pharmacy, the name of the store is "the US Pharmacy" on main street. They were a purple pill, then they changed to orange and then back to purple but a thinner round purple pill, that I believe they stopped selling the original one. They also helped my son with his meniscus knee injury after two surgeries. The info on the bottle said " they also prevented bone cancer". They were $13 for 30 tablets. I have a box from them but don't know from which batch. The box is dark purple with green lettering "Ortiga" exija ...

I was born in Chicago in 1978, and my mother had taken Bendectin. Like many other pregnant women during that time, she was handed two prescriptions at her first Obstetrician appointment: Prenatal Vitamins and Bendectin. She had severe morning sickness, so she filled the Bendectin and took it throughout her pregnancy. I was born with a a cleft lip, cleft palate, and now I'm facing knee replacement surgery on both legs (Rightie is going first in two weeks!). Have any other "Bendectin Babies" been plagued with knee and/or joint issues? ## yes affected ## Yes, I also have two uvulas, cleft palate and almost un bearable knee pain and I was born to a mom given bendectin in canada in 78 ## I have been researching bendectin for some time now. I have been on Xarelto 5 days now, after being switched off Coumadin when I was in the hospital for blood clots in multiple arm veins. On the 3rd day of Xarelto, started to get tightness in my calf and a little bit in thigh. Slowly it is getting worse, as well as knee pain. The weird thing is it is not swelling and it comes and goes. Saw where this can be a side effect, but haven't seen or heard how long I can expect this to last, if it gets better, etc.? I'm supposed to be on it for 3 months, until I have thoracic outlet surgery. ## Hello, Lefty! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're experiencing. Yes, those can be side effects of this medication, as reported by the U.S. FDA and they may not go away, until you finish your course of treatment with it. Many peo...

I really hope this knee doc will give me sumtin stronger. Any advice. My oxy comes from a pain clnic ## Hello, Kin! How did your surgery go? The problem might be due to your pain treatment contract. It may not allow you to take any other medications for pain, regardless of the circumstances, without their permission. Have you informed them of the surgery and what's going on? This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## Thanks I got it all taken care of. Trying to recover now. Thanks.

Have been on Prolia for 4 months. Next injection due in 2 months. Scheduled to have a total knee replacement in 3 weeks. Is it safe to get knee replacement while on Prola? Will the healing be as good if I'm not on Prolia? Are infections a higher possibility? Anyone out there had knee replacement while on Prolia? ## Yes, it has been known to increase the risk of infections, including possibly severe ones, though the FDA states that they are usually not fatal. There are many details about this medication listed here: Thus, it would be best to speak to your doctor, as they may want you to stop it for awhile, before having your surgery. Are you on any other medications?

I'm seeing new PCP in the morning. I'm afraid that my addiction to methamphetamine will prevent me getting knee replacement surgery that is desperately needed. My knee pain is excruciating. Will they let me have knee replacement surgery? ## Hello, Sheila! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in so much pain. They will most likely want you to get your addiction under control, before doing the surgery. An illicit substance, such as this one, can affect the anesthesia and put you in great danger, if taken too close to the surgery. It would be best to be honest with your doctor, so they can help you and then you can get the surgery you need. The FDA classifies Methamphetamine as being highly addictive and it may cause dangerous side effects, such as heart attack and strok...
