I have a severe kidney infection, and testing was done ie: xray, ultra sound, to determine if anything worse is going on, but I do not have a doctor's appointment for the results for 1 week. Is this medicine safe for my kidney ? I was prescribed a generic at 100 mg. I am a little concerned about some of the warnings ## Have you contacted your doctor about your concerns? This contains the active ingredient Nitrofurantoin, which is an antibiotic. The current warnings about renal function are actually not conclusive and, if you do have a severe infection, not taking the antibiotic to treat it could be much worse than the possible dangers of using it.

I am a diabetic currently experiencing cellulitis in my legs with possible infection from the open ulcers. This I believe is the cause for recent, severe pain in my right kidney. I am asking can I use my pain pills Hydrocodon-Acetaminophen5-325 safely to combat both the pain and possible infection? ## Hello, Starace! How are you? This medication will only help with pain, there is nothing in it to help combat an infection, for that you need to see your doctor to have an antibiotic prescribed. The FDA classifies Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking hydrochlorothiazide for 2 weeks now, and this past week my kidneys have hurt badly and it hurts in my kidneys when I urinate. Is this typical of this med? Should I call my doc? ## This medication is use to remove excess fluid from the body, to help treat high blood pressure, edema, and congestive heart failure. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Your doctor should be checking your kidney function, via blood work, every few weeks to be certain that you are safe. Are you on any other medications?

Is there a danger to kidneys if I have the patch? I only have one kidney....lost because of a kidney stone. ## Hello, Linda! How are you? The kidneys are partially responsible for removing Fentanyl from the body, so it may actually affect you more than it would people with 2 kidneys and linger in your body longer than usual. But generally, when it comes to damage from medications, it is the liver that is of the most concern, especially with Acetaminophen. Has your doctor said it is safe for you to use these medications? The FDA classifies Fentanyl as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
