I am a hospice patient and was prescribed 1 - 2 tylenol #3 every 4 hours. I was wondering if this is a strong opiate? I would like to be as comfortable as possible but also keep my mind active and alert. ## Tylenol 3 contains Acetaminophen and Codeine, which a very mild opiate. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Are you on any other medications? ## i have an emergency pack from hospice in the frig which contains morphine but i haven't taken anything from my care box yet

I have a infected wisdom tooth so my doctor prescribed me these on top ofpeniciilin. All the tylonel is doing is maken me feel sick all the time. Ive tryd eating on them but no matter what i feel like im going to be sick but i cant deal with the pain. What do i do ## Nicki, it's probably the Codeine in the Tylenol #4. I dealt with the same thing once and the doctor had to switch me to Vicodin, as it contains a different narcotic ingredient. You might be sensitive to opiates in general, in which case they may also decide to put you on a high dose of non-narcotic medications. Hope this info helps and good luck!! ## .Thank you very much. I am going to call my dentist monday and ask him for something different so i am not feeling like this anymore :)

How many tylenol 3s equal a 10/325mg norco? ## Hello, Yoyo! How are you? Codeine is actually a very weak opiate, so it would take 66.67mgs of it to equal each 10mg Hydrocodone. But, you can't double up, without your doctor's permission, due to the Acetaminophen in them. Taking too much of it in any 24 hour period could result in fatal toxicity, liver damage or liver failure. The FDA lists this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Why would a doctor switch a person that's been on Hydrocodone-Apap 7.5/325mg to Tylenol 3?

I've been on Vicodin, Norco, and now Tylenol 3 for pain. I'm getting ready to have knee surgery and than back surgery. I'VE BEEN TAKING THESE PAIN PILLS SINCE MARCH 2014. How do I tell my dr. that the Tylenol 3 is not strong enough and I'm taking more than 2 a day. I ALSO HAVE HEP C+, WHAT SHOULD I be taking/ ## Hello, Cindy! How are you? The Codeine in these Tylenol formulations is actually a very weak opiate, you'd need 33.33mgs of it to equal each 5mgs of Hydrocodone in the Norco. The FDA lists these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Since you have Hep C, you likely should avoid the medications that contain Acetaminop...

I have cancer and was prescribed to take 3 pills every three hours. By mistake I took 4 pills thinking they were 1 mg and they are 2 mg. Is there anything I can do to delete the dosages? ## This medication is hydromorphone ## You can't delete a dosage, only time will take care of that. That's not an inordinately high dosage, but if you aren't opiate tolerant, it could cause problems or overdose. Did you suffer any ill effects? The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## You should be just fine even though you lack any real tolerance. You have not ingested enough to cause any type of overdose. You may feel slightly woozy...

if i ad 1000 mgs of tylenol to my 15mg oxycodone will i get longer pain relief??more hours? ## If your doctor approves, it is only necessary to add a regular dose of Tylenol/Acetaminophen of 325mgs. It can help augment the action of Opiates for some people. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## You also need to remember tylenol can be toxic to the liver and you should be closely monitoring tylenol daily intake. Most sites say 3000mg a day is,safe but that's not for long term use, short term pain relief only. My pain dr says it's more like 2000 for chronic patients on these med's for years and still could ...

I have osteoarthritic hips and run a restaurant, I am on my feet 5-6 hours a day. I currently take meloxicam 3-4 days a week with Tylenol Arthritis. I need something stronger, would Tramadol 50mg be a better choice? Could I take them both in the morning safely? ## Tramadol is classified as an opiate, by FDA standards, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. As to your other question, it depends on what you want to take it with? I'm sorry, but your post wasn't clear. Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you!

I took a tramadol around 1 pm today. I now need another pain reliever, was wondering how long should I wait to take Tylenol with codiene? ## Hello, Jen! How are you? It is best to be cautious, because Tramadol can sometimes initiate withdrawals in people that are opiate dependent, if you try to mix them. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. What dosage is the Tramadol that you're taking? Each 50mg dose of Tramadol is equivalent to 33.33mgs of Codeine, so your Tramadol might actually be stronger.

I have COPD and my doctor gave me Tylenol 3 and they don't work. I've been on them for 5 months and they don't work. ## Codeine is actually a very mild opiate, so it doesn't help everyone that takes it. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you informed your doctor of the problem? You may need to try something stronger.

all of the opiates are secretly being reduced. in drugs that are combined with aspirin Tylenol such as lortab the 7.5mg is no longer made, with doctors not even knowing this. it is the 5mg that is the strongest. the tylanol is not reduced. people in chronic severe pain will not get the relief they are expecting and take more not realizing the toxic effect Tylenol has on the liver. they are also reducing the amount of opiates a dr. can prescribe a month. when the unwinnable war on drugs turns torture and possible liver death we the people need to stand up and scream for the people in to much agony to fight. only 10% of people are junkies, which includes alcoholics.they are born with a chemical imbalance that drives them to abuse whatever substance or behavior. we need to take back our mon...

I've been taking Tylenol 4 for a little while and I've noticed if I don't take my anxiety medication with it my body doesn't feel right I feel like it's on fire plus I'm very nervous. But when I would take hydrocodone 10-325 I wouldn't feel this way. I was wanting to ask is there a difference in hydrocodone and Tylenol 4? For me to feel so differently. ## Hello, Missy! How are you? Yes, they do contain different opiates. Tylenol 4 contains Acetaminophen and Codeine, but the other medication is a generic for Norco and it contains Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. And we are all different, so on to...

I ran out of tramadol acer 37,5/325 mg can i take tylenol 3 until i can get to my doctor ## Yes, but Tyl 3 is a little bit stronger, so maybe cut it in half. Tylenol 3 is the stronger drug, with real opiates, just so you know. ## It requires 25mgs of the Codeine in Tylenol 3 to equal each 37.5mgs of Tramadol. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. However, substituting on for the other is never advisable, without the approval of your doctor. Are there any other questions?

Can I take Tylenol 3 with hydromorphone if I am still in pain? ## Hello, Brenda! How are you? Tylenol 3 contains Codeine and Acetaminophen, so it would best not to mix these medications, unless your doctor approves. It could create the risk of overdose, especially in someone that isn't opiate tolerant. The FDA classiness this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes you can take the Tylenol 3 with hydromorphone. I used too be prescribed four 8mg hydromorphone and four Percocet tens a day. Its perfectly safe just dont drive until you know how it affects you! ## Thank all u guys for replying to my question ...

I have a little different situation. I was put on suboxone because of pain however, after being on it for a little less than a year I've decided to go off of it because it is not giving me much pain relief. I'm down to 1-2MG a day. Do I need to completely be off of it before I start something else? I haven't taken any for 2 days. I have Tylenol 3 that I want to start and I don't want to start to soon if I need to wait longer for the suboxone to leave my system. ## You can take the Tylenol 3 right after suboxone- you won't feel it and it will not make you sick. It's when you take suboxone right after another opioid/opiate that bad stuff starts happening- as in the buprenorphine violently ripping the other med off the receptors. (Precipitated withdrawal). Take the ...

I'm taking Nucynta 100mg 4 x a day with IB profen 800mg 3 x a day for back pain but am currently out of Nucynta so I have been taking Tylenol/Codeine # 3 and # 4 with my IB Profen and a few 7.5 Meloxicam. I should be getting my refill today but I take the other meds to keep from going into withdrawels, been there several times getting off Oxy, and several other opiates and it is nothing nice. Are these safe to mix? ## You should not be mixing the Ibuprofen and the Meloxicam, the FDA classifies these both as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, so you are essentially doubling up on the same medication, which increases your risk of bleeding, stomach irritation, and possible ulceration. How are you doing? There is also a risk of liver damage from combining those two medications, according...

I had ankle surgery yesterday and they put 2 plates and 10 screws in my ankle. I was prescribed Tylenol 3s and ibuprofen 800mg when I went to the urgent care the day before surgery and was prescribed Valium 5mg and Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 10-325 after surgery. Would it be safe for me to take a Valium 5mg and Tylenol 3 together for the pain to hold me over until it’s time for me to take my Norco again in 3 hours? Please advise. Thank you. ## You should not combine the Tylenol 3 and Norco, since they both contain opiate narcotics, as well as Tylenol/Acetaminophen. You should really stick with one, or the other. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Why...

i need some suggestions for pain meds w out tylenol . been in percocet 10/325 for a few years . my liver tests wewe high so gotta avoid tylenol. i got tramedol doesnt help. ## Hi, Becky! How are you? There are actually many that don't contain Acetaminophen. Oxycodone is available by itself in quite a few different dosages. Learn more Oxycodone details here. Other options include Morphine, Opana and Dilaudid. Learn more Morphine details here. Learn more Opana details here. Learn more Dilaudid details here. These are all narcotic opiates, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. What is the equivalent of norco 10 mg to Tylenol W codeine, is it a #3 or #4 ? ## Hi brian, I'd recommend double checking this with your doctor first just to make sure it's accurate, but according various opiate conversion charts I viewed online, 10mgs of Hydrocodone has an estimated equivalency to about 60mgs of Codeine. And in that respect Norco 10/325 should be similar to Tylenol #4; which has 60mgs of Codeine + 325mgs of Acetaminophen. Does anyone else find this to be true based on personal experience?

Taking 5/325 hydrocodone & ancetamin for fractures in leg & arm. Even though this is small dose I am experiencing itchy face & some shallow breaths or longer time between breaths. I notice this at night . Only been on med for a week but read that these side affects are dangerous. Now afraid to continue pain control with these pills. I was wondering if this is because I take zoloft at nite with the pain med? The pain can get severe so dont know what to take anymore. ## Hello, Mickact! How are you doing? Has there been any change? I think it would be best to consult your doctor, because yes, those could be danger signs, and you might need to switch to a different medication.
