I have taken the 48 pac of prednisone before and it was a graduated dosage by the cards they were on - the prescription I received today was in a bottle and did not have any instructions on how to take them like the ones in the pac. Can you help? ## Are you starting to come off the med? I think you have to gradually come off it. But this current bottle must have a periodic schedule for it, only all at the same dosage. Is this new bottle prescribed by the same doctor? The safest bet would be to contact your doctor or the pharmacy who dispensed it. ## Was just prescribed this medication for a sinus infection. Mine came in a bottle that instructs you to take 2 tabs every12 hours for 3 days, then 1 tablet every 12 hours for 4 days. Was prescribed by a doctor. ## I started out taking my medi...

So if you're still unable to determine whether the cause is stress or medication related, it would still be wise to contact your doctor in the meantime just to play it safe. Can you taper prednisolone.. 30mg/day for a week by 10mg/day each week after without side effects or is it best to go from 30 to 20 to 10 to 5mg? ## Hello, Jacko! How are you? How has your doctor directed you to taper it? Sometimes, if you've been taking it for less than 3 weeks, tapering isn't necessary. Usually, however, when it is tapered, it is done by 10mg increments, but not for a week each, in most cases, it's usually just a couple of days. But you need to follow your doctor's instructions, they are the final decider as to what is safest for you. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) mandates expiration dates on all medications to ensure safety and efficacy. However, it's worth noting that many medications remain effective even past these dates. In fact, a significant quantity of these outdated medicines are donated to countries in need, such as various regions in Africa and Bangladesh, where they can still be of great help. It's important to understand that most medications do not become toxic after expiration, with the notable exception of certain antibiotics. While some, like penicillin, may lose potency over time, adjustments in dosage can sometimes compensate for this reduced efficacy. ## According to the following Harvard Medical School family health article, many medications can actually last up to 15 years ...

Is it still safe to use and will it be effective? ## Hello, Rita! How are you? It does not become dangerous, but it has likely started to lose some efficacy, according to the NIH, thus it would be best to dispose of it and obtain a new supply. Accidentally, took 40 mg. of prednisone. How do I taper off the drug now? ## Hi Judy, If you overdosed on your medication and are concerned about the possible ramifications of having done so, I would encourage you to call the American Association of Poison Control at: 1 (800) 222-1222. Better safe than sorry, right? As far as a tapering plan goes, this is really something you and your doctor should work closely on developing in order to ensure that the instructions are tailored to your medical history and other pertinent/personal information. There is no one size fits all when it comes to starting or stopping any medication. I just hope you're feeling alright by now.

Can I take Tylenol with Prednisone? I have a headache and this is all I've got. ## Hi Teresa - I checked medlineplus.gov and did not see any mention of Acetaminophen (the active ingredient in Tylenol) being listed as something to avoid while taking Prednisone. I did see blood thinners, as well as Aspirin on the list. Ultimately I would place a quick call to the pharmacy just to be safe. Here is what I found: " Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and nutritional supplements you are taking or plan to take. Be sure to mention any of the following: amiodarone (Cordarone, Pacerone); anticoagulants ('blood thinners') such as warfarin (Coumadin); certain antifungals such as fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox),...

Prednison & Plavix can you take this combo ? ## If you take plavix & have a stent in your heart, can you take predinsone to gain weight ## I'm not finding any contraindications regarding taking them together, however, you should always consult a doctor or pharmacist to be certain. And no, unless your doctor has specifically instructed you to take it, you shouldn't use Prednisone, if you are a heart patient. It can cause fluid retention and, if you are an existing heart patient, this ups your risk of suffering congestive heart failure. pills expired in 2008- are they still good to treat poison oak in August 2011 ## Certain drugs are actually okay to take after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic. My personal assumption is that it lost a good percentage of its potency by now, having been 3-4 years old. I would also check with your doctor or pharmacy to make sure that you're using the most effective treatment option for poison oak. It may still be effective, but not nearly as potent. It's also impossible to give a direct answer to this question, since each medication can effect people differently. We all know that it's better to avoid the expired drugs and stay on the safe side, but unfortunately, the only way to find out is to actually try it. I wouldn't suggest taking that r...

Hi. I was given prednisone 20mg twice a day for 5 days for low back pain with no tapering. is that safe? ## Hello, Lori! How are you? Yes, tapering is generally only a concern if someone is taking it for 21 days or more. It isn't necessary for short term use of Prednisone. It's always best to check with your doctor to be sure, but that is the general rule. The FDA classifies this medication as a steroidal and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, acne, insomnia, nervousness and fluid retention. My mom suffers from cirousus of the liver and has rec bleeding which passes from her stomach .She has auto immuine also. Last year she had 8 bld transfusions. But when her blood gets low they always try prednisone . She also is diabetic this makes her sugar sky high is there no other way to treat this issue???? ## Prednisone is a corticosteroid and it is used to treat many conditions. That said, when trying something for treatment, her doctors must take all of her health problems and other medications under consideration, before prescribing something. This may be the safest for her to use for this problem. The rising blood sugar is a normal side effect, along with: weight gain, nausea and drowsiness. You can read more on it here: Have you tried discussing it with her doctors?
