I have been on 15 mg opana er for 2 years. My appointment is in two hours to be put on morphine. They want to put me on 15 mg of that as well. I have a brain disease and suffer from chronic headaches and severe eye pressure. Is this even close to providing the same relief? And I also have epilepsy and if I go through withdrawals I can start to have seizures. How much morphine would it take to equal the 15 mg of opana ER? ## From what I've been reading Opana is fixing to be removed by the FDA because of abuse. If it is a GC/MS lab test it is doubtful morphine would show up as Opana which is oxymorphone. IF it is a urine dip test like you buy at the store Opana might show up on a morphine test if the levels of opana are very very high. ## I don't think it has anything to do with the test. Drowsiness is a possible side effect of all narcotics, it's really just a matter of trial an error to find one that works for you, without making you sleepy. Morphine did the same thing to me, when I was on it, I could barely ever stay awake. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you tried Oxycodone? It may work better for you.

Thanks ## The Oxymorphone in the Opana and Oxycodone in the Roxicodone are both synthetic opiates and these have been known to occasionally cause false positives for other synthetic opiates. Morphine, however, is not synthetic, so that's not one they've been reported to cause a false positive for. The Oxymorphone is distantly related to Morphine, but it is not the same substance and, therefore, the metabolites that it creates in the body, which would be detectable on a drug test, are different. I have a script for opana and oxycodone. My doctor uses a really expensive lab to send the tests too and they take at least a week... So i know they are intense. I am highly allergic to codeine and morphine. My pm dr did a urine drug test on me and sent to a lab and it came back positive for both however, I have not taken codeine or any form of it or morphine. I need to switch to one of these meds, Opana isn't covered on my insurance, the MS is, are they the same or is one better than the other? ## No, they do not contain the same medication, MS Contin contains the active ingredient Morphine and Opana contains Oxymorphone. The Opana is a much stronger medication, for instance, just 6.67mgs of it is equal to a 40mg dosage of the Ms Contin, so you have to take much less of it. However, since there is no generic, it is also much more expensive and since you can get a dosage in the Morphine that may help, you may find it makes more sense to go with the one that your insurance will cover, even though the dosage will have to be higher. The Oxymorphine is much more powerful and only requires a fraction of the dose that was being taken of the Morphine. Both are time released. I was on Opana 40 2 x daily plus 10 mg of oxymorphone hcl every 6 hrs. Since the recent changes, I have been switched to Arymo 60 2x daily and still take the 10 mg oxymorphone every 6 hrs. The Arymo does not seem to be working well. Is there something else that I can ask for that will help with the pain? I too am awake most of the night tossing and turning due to pain. There are some tests that will just show the presence of opiates and, if that is they type used, then that is all any of then would be detected as being. However, there are other tests that are most specific and can show the exact opiates that were taken, by analyzing their individual metabolites.
