I am in a confusing debate with my ex husband: Which is stronger, 30 mg of morphine sulfate E.R or 10 mg of methadone? ## Methadone is stronger than Morphine, just as an example, if you were taking the 30mgs of Morphine, the equivalent dosage of Methadone would only be 3mgs, so it's a roughly 1mg to 10mg ratio. Dilaudid is a semi synthetic keytone or Hydromorphone HCL, so it is i feel its twice the potency of morphine, short acting though. I take 70mg Methadone HCL and Dilaudid for breakthrough pain. I did also get Percocet 10/325 but after this new law he would not give me a one. I never ever felt like a dope addict but yet feel they are scrutinizing me at some pharmacies. I have been on Methadone 10mg - 2 tabs 4 x a day for 6 years and 300 mg's/day for 5 yrs before that from a methadone clinic. My Primary care Dr. (also my pain management Dr) recently decided that I needed to "taper down", Because I told her that the new pharmacy I went to gave me a hard time about the quantity. i have been taking 60mg.morphine sulfate with little relief i just started on methadone hcl 10mg. & found them to be stronger & more effective my wife just believes that it is the change but i am convinced the methadone is stronger who is right? ## It would take 15mgs of Methadone to equal each 60mgs dose of the Morphine, so I'd have to give the win to your wife. However, there is a caveat, it may not be just because of the change to a different medication, it could be due to the fact that the Methadone may just work better for you. My doc has changed my pain meds. I am taking 90 mgs. a day, and have been for 6 months. It doesn't work anymore. (Nerve damage from 5 failed back surgers and scarring from healing attempts.) He put me on 100mgs of MS Contin twice a day. I NEED to know what if anything I need to know about the transition. For approx the past six months I have had even more problems than usual filling my morphine ir 30 mg. twice there have been drug shortages. I need to change to an equivilant medication like roxicodone,or something similar. What dose of oxycodone is equal to 4 X msir 30mg per day??? Hi, I'm currently taking oxycodone 10 mg 4x a day. I need something stronger and something for break through pain. I don't have insurance so I need to do this cost wise since I'm paying out of pocket. I've taken dilaudid 4 mg with morphine 10 mg before and it did nothing for my pain. I've also taken methadone as well. I have bulging and herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, pinched nerves, fibromyalgia, spondylosis, and possibly spinal stenosis. I need another MRI. How can I tell my pm doctor to increase the Mg's of pain medicine without sounding like a drug seeker? I was on liquid Methadone for chronic pain for years and while on waiting list to switch to a new Pain center, I was weaning off methadone rapidly at 2mgs a day from 120 to 38mg. I was also on 20 to 40 mgs a day oxycodone for breakthrough pain. Now, last month, my new doc put me on 25mcg/h patch. Yesterday, he informed me that I am now ONLY getting pain management from him (understandable) and cut me off and did not prescribe any more oxycodone and I was to stop at 38mgs methadone. Bottom line, will a 50mcg/h patch I started today be enough for my pain and withdrawals? I am scared. ## Did you discuss your concerns with him? I have been weaning myself off Methadone! I was taking 10mgs 3 times a day. I am now down to less than one tablet a day and will continue until I can say goodby Methadone and I never want to see you again. Now to my real problem. Last week my doctor gave me the Fentanyl 25 MCG/HR Patch MYL. I need something to help with the pain I still have, although the Lyrica and Cymbalta have really helped. I did not know when she gave the Fentanyl Patch to me that I would have to taper off and that it carried baggage of bad side affects. I have read the messages here and have decided not to use the Fentanyl. The blue, larger then a tylenol, no coating. Just crush it up in a spoon heat it up to a quick boil fold over the melted pill put a cotton in it and dra w it up with a needle and shoot it. ## From what I understand this is a brand of Hydromorphone, which is essentially a strong narcotic pain reliever derived from Morphine. Do you have any other questions or information to add?
