No, Metoprolol is a beta blocker, it would be best to double check with your doctor, but as far as I know, there shouldn't be a problem taking it. My husband takes 12.5 mg metoprolol in the morning and his lisinopril 2.5 at night. His cardiologist said to take 12.5 metoprolol in the am and another 12.5 in the pm. Our question is can the two medications together cause his no to get too low? He was put on the lisinopril to thin his blood since he is diabetic. Is it normal to be on both if there is no heart condition? ## Neither of these medications are blood thinners. What condition does he have that requires him to see a cardiologist? Medications in this class are sometimes given to diabetics to help protect kidney function, according to the NIH. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and hypotension. Does your husband have high blood pressure?

8/17/17 I've been taking 25mg of Atenolol 3xday for Afib, I have it often, have a pacemaker and on pradaxa (blood thinner). Apparently Atenolol is back-ordered all over the country. My cardiologist prescribed Metoprolol, only 25mg 1xday. I'm switching tomorrow and I'm concerned with enough dosage from Metoprolol. I have googled, can't locate equivalent dosage, can you help? ## It is generally better to follow your doctor's instructions as to what dosage you should take. Since these are in the same medication class, the doses are also sometimes the same. The FDA warns that the side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Have you started taking it, yet? If so, how are you doing?

I'm taking a small dose that was prescribed due to a sudden A-fib situation. I am off any blood thinners other than aspirin and have cut the dose to about 2.5mg 2xs a day. My heart rate is upper 60s to mid 70s at rest. I only got to 130 one time while bowling during the day and it remains in the mid to upper 80s. I have noticed a reduction in libido and a weighted feeling in my lower legs. I've been on it for 8 months +- blood pressure is fine, a little discomfort from time to time in the stomach. Now I want to get off this, but how? ## At that low of a dosage, you can most likely just stop taking it, but you should only do so, if your doctor approves. If this is the only thing controlling your blood pressure, there is a risk of it soaring back up, if you stop it, according to t...

I'm having surgery and need to know if any of my meds are blood thinners: Guanfacine, Isosorbide Mononitrate ER, Metoprolol, Metformin, Losartan/HCTZ, L-Thyroxine, Atorvastatin Calcium, Meloxicam. ## No, but many surgeons will tell you not to take the Meloxicam, before surgery, since it can cause an increased risk of bleeding as a side effect, according to FDA reports. Thus, in most cases you have to stop taking it several days before surgery. It is best to make sure they know everything you are taking, including the dosages, so they can advise you on what you should, or shouldn't take. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am male age 73 & on hypertension medicine for last 11 years.I was taking combination medicine of 5 mg amlodipine plus 50 mg metoprolol for 6 years.BP used to be in the range of 150/80.I had undergone angioplasty 8 years ago and have been also taking suitable blood thinners etc.Recently due to some kidney problem, nephrologist suggested some additional medicines. He also changed BP medicine dosage to ONLY 25 mg metoprolol without any amlodipine..This caused very SEVERE side effects like drowsiness/ tiredness/breathlessness/panting/feeling of heavy pressure on chest etc.(I could not even bend or walk 10 paces without breathlessness/panting).I am informed that I should revert to combination of amlodipine 5 mg and metoprolol 50 mg - both in extended release form.Is any such medicine fo...

I am taking blood thinners, can I take Claritromicina (moxitral) ## Hi roger, According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, there IS a drug interaction between Clarithromycin (Claritromicina) and Xarelto (Rivaroxaban), having what they consider to be a "moderate potential" for interaction. Their report goes on to note that using these two drugs together may increase blood levels of Rivaroxaban and therefore an increased risk of its potential side effects as well. However it sounds to me like you can simply work with your doctor on adjusting the dosage to decrease this risk if need be. I also wanted to clarify that Moxitral is listed online as containing Amoxicillin + Clavulanate; a completely different antibiotic than Claritromicina (Clarithromycin). Hope this info hel...

The Eco-AV contains Apsirin and Atorvastatin, this combines a NSAID blood thinner with a medication to help lower cholesterol. This is why you need to consult your doctor, so you can get to the root of the problem.
