I just wanted to know if alprazolam is generic for xanax,is lorazepam generic for xanax too,since it seems they are both perscribed for the sam e thing ## Although both medications are of the Benzodiazepine drug class, Alprazolam is the one and only generic for Xanax. My pharmacy told me that they can't buy mylan any more and they do not know if it is discontinued or not. Since Qualitest lorazepam was discontinued, Mylan is the only lorazepam that works (less effective than Qualitest) but works with less side effects than others (Watson, leading pharma, actavis: don't work causing serious side effects). Any alternatives, or another generic lorazepam that works ok? Lorazepam is the only sedative that works for me for anxiety and stiffness due to side effects of levothyroxine. I was just prescribed lorazepam to help deal with the anxiety of my husband of 18 years divorcing me. He can't seem to wrap his mind around supporting me towards wellness, and he has contributed to the severity of the depression...for about 14 years. My concern is that lorazepam will make me drowsy and create muddled thinking. I really need my wits about me to navigate my way through the divorce. So, reducing anxiety at the cost of clear thinking doesn't do me much good. My Doc is replacing Xanax because it just knocks me out. What are other people's experience with this drug? Could someone please tell me if Ativan can cause glazing look in the eyes? ## Absolutely, it is a Benzodiapine, the same drug class as Xanax or Valium. It tends to cause an initial spaciness in people who have not adjusted to taking the med, or have recently experienced a dosage change. These type of side effects usually wear off in about 2 weeks, give or take a few days to account for a person's individual body chemistry and the way it may process a medication. I'm paranoid when I'm given a new pill that's supposed to be the same as I've taken before. I've been given Xanax from my doctor, the oval ones, and all of a sudden he gave me little white pills which are hard to read. I think they say GG 52 and P or l58. My doctor wants to take me off Xanax. I have taken 1mg 3 times a day for 10 years. I take it for my anixity disorder as well as a relaxant for my skeletal muscle disorder. If I stop taking .5mg of xanax after only2 months wwhat's the risk of a possible seizure ## Slight ## It would ultimately be best to talk with your doctor about tapering first. But from what I've been reading, most people shouldn't have any severe problems after stopping xanax at that low of a dose. The National Anxiety Foundation states that cold turkey-ing 4mgs or more is notably what can cause moderate to severe withdrawal symptoms and/or convulsions in some cases. So in my honest opinion the risk for you is very slim. Does anyone have a doctor who would easily prescribe me Xanax? I have had success in treating my panic attacks with it in the past, but my current nurse practitioner will not change me off my lorazepam Rx. Ativan makes me tired and does not have the same helpful effect thst alprazolam did.
