I've been taking it for about three months. My hair started falling out and now I have to stop taking it. I take other blood pressure meds that don't have that effect. ## Yes, that is a known side effect of this medication, according to FDA reports. It can also cause other side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and dehydration. There are other medications in this class that you can try to see if they may not cause you to experience the same issue. I know I'd be freaking out if I lost my hair. What other medications do you take?

My AC1 level went from 5.8 to 6.0 to 6.4 every six months and my Doctor stated i was pre diabetic. I researched my medication and found that HCTZ causes AC! levels to rise. I told my doctor and she disagreed. I asked that I be taken off HCTZ for 3 months and see what my AC1 level was. She agreed and yesterday my test results was ONE full point lower 5.4 versus 6.4. I am awaitng a response from my Doctor. Not everyone is the same but if you are on HCTZ and your AC1 level begins to increase I suggest to stop it for 3 months and see if your results are the same. ## Hello, Jim! How are you? Very smart of you to do the research on your own. Your doctor should do some more checking, because the research is out there showing that the Thiazide diuretics, such as this one, can cause that in some...

I am taking hydrochlorothiazide 25mg once a day along with Losartan, also 25 mg. Should I take these together at the same time or should I take them at different times of the day for the best effect? how do you take the med???and how late to take not to make you get up during the night???? ## When I was on them, my doctor always had me take it in the morning, to try to minimize the chance that I would have to get up at night and go the bathroom. However, Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic, it helps remove fluid from the body and, as such, there is really no way to completely eliminate the possibility. It is supposed to make you urinate more and urinate more frequently. Have you discussed this with your doctor? My renewed generic prescription Lisinopril/hydrochlorothiazide 10-12.5 is now coming from a different manufacturer (pharmacist verified) than my original (pinkish pill) from Aurobindo. The new blue pill, manufactured by Westward, is not the same in effects. Does anyone know what pharmacies (Target and Walmart don't carry it) carry the same medication but manufactured by Aurobindo? Thank you ## Maybe my question should be when generic prescriptions switch manufacturers, are the ingredients EXACTLY the same? If so, why is a medication I have taken successfully for 4 years with no side effects suddenly begin to make me ffell lethargic and starting hair loss within 3 weeks of starting the same "everything" but from a different manufacturer? Am allergic to Blue #2 which is found in Mylan's Triamterene HCTZ. How do I find a pharmacy that sells Actavis' (formerly Watson Pharma) version of this medication which does not contain Blue#2? ## Hello, Tom! How are you? If you inform your pharmacy of the issue, they should be able to order the other one in for you. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, dehydration and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks so much. That's exactly what I'll do. Tried already at my pharmacy(cvs) and they would not order anything other than Mylan. Same story at Publix. I'll find someone this week I'm sure. Thanks again.

My husband has been taking Hydrochlorothiazide cap Myl. He just got a refill and noticed it is Hydrochlorot tab Acc. Both are 12.5 mg. Are these the same medicine? ## Hi Joan - I am pretty sure that "Hydrochlorot" is just an abbreviation for the full name Hydrochlorothiazide. And based on the abbreviations that you shared, it sounds like the first version he took was a capsule from Mylan (NDC 0378-0810), and that his refill now contains the tablet from Accord (NDC 16729-182). If I'm prescribed both pills, do I have to take them together? What if I only take the Losartan without the Hydrochlorothiazide? ## You should take them both, as prescribed. They are often used together to help lower high blood pressure and to treat some cardiac conditions. Taking just the Losartan may lower it some, but not as much as taking both. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Did your doctor instruct you to take both? ## Someone has asked this, but I didn't see a specific response to it - Should losartan and hydrochlorothiazide be taken at the same time or different times of day for BP control?

My aunt has been taking the Sandoz Pharmaceutical, hydrochlorothiazide and triamterene for 13 yrs. The GG606, now the pharmacy is saying they can't get that one anymore that they have a new one by a different company that is the same. She has tried to take this, but it gives her a terrible heachache, where the other one didn't. Is there any pharmacy that still carries this medication by Sandoz Pharmaceutical? ## Unfortunately, there is a shortage of the Triamterene and Sandoz is one of the companies affected, so it isn't currently available anywhere. There can be fluctuations in the active ingredients of generic medications, this may be causing changes in her blood pressure, which could cause the headaches.
