I would like to know the side effects & what this medication is. ## Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic, used to help reduce the amount of water in the body and Lisinopril is used to help lower blood pressure. Combined, they can be pretty effective at helping to lower high blood pressure and reducing associated edema. Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and headache. Can I help you with anything else?

Just learned that the chronic cough I've had for two years might be caused by this med. What would be the alternative Rx? ## Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Lisinopril. I personally used to have severe hypertension for a number of years, but was able to control it by controlling more of my eating habits and exercising. What works for me may not work for everyone, but my initial advice is to look into natural ways (before prescription alternatives) such as: Low/no sodium foods to help reduce inflammation and water retention, supplementation of garlic, as well as having a diet that is rich in potassium and magnesium. Other dietary and non dietary options for lowering blood pressure can include (but are not limited to): L-Theanine Magnesium Glycinate Coenzyme Q10 Garlic Ha...

I have been taking Nifedipine for a month. I have increased water and swelling in feet, and a lot of pulled muscles. I think the pills are the cause. How do I wean myself off them? I take one every second day, until I see my Dr. ## It would be best not to stop taking them, until you see your doctor, but the NIH does list that as being a possible side effect of this medication, so you might need to switch to a different medication. When you be able to see your doctor? The FDA lists other side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. Are you on any other medications? ## Yes, I have two of those but don't have the nausea. Can't see my dr til two weeks time. I was taking HCTZ before so I went back on this pill. Can I take Rumoquin-N.F. & Lisinop/HCTZ Tab 20-12.5 together at the same time? ## My findings state that there are potentially unsafe interactions that apply to Rumoquin N.F. (dexamethasone + methocarbamol + phenylbutazone) & Lisinopril. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of: "Dexamethasone may reduce the effects of lisinopril in lowering blood pressure. The interaction is most likely to occur when dexamethasone is used for more than a week, since prolonged use can cause sodium and water retention. Let your doctor know if you experience sudden, unexplained weight gain or swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications." "Lisinopril and methocarbamol may ...

I have been taking triamterene/hctz for over 10 years. My doctor at the time put me on it for water retention. I recently had to switch doctors and she wouldn't refill it for me because she says it's not good for my health. Well the first day I was off the med, I started retaining a lot of water in my fingers legs feet. If I want to reduce the retention, I have to get off my feet and elevate them. I am so frustrated and unhappy and uncomfortable and am worried the retention is always going to be a problem. Anyone else have this happen and can help me with info what to do? Hello! I started HCTZ around 02/98, didn't notice any problems until about 4-5 years ago when I could not longer stand at my stove for even 5 minutes to cook a meal, felt like my calves were going to burst because they were so tight. I have always drank plenty of water since my early 20's (I'm now 53), was never informed my sodium and potassium were to be monitored closely while on this drug, and never warned about staying out of the sun for any length of time. After being denied to stop taking this drug by my physician, I stopped it in 08/16 and couldn't believe what pain I was actually in while on that dreadful medication. As it stands, the past 4 years proved NOT to be helpful with BP as it was always stroke level for years (160-180 over 105-118 consistently) and as a...

Will this med make you feel like you have the flu? I feel light headed. I drink no water at all, can this be causing the problems I have? ## Hello, Dennis! How are you? Yes, it can do that, especially if you don't drink any water! You must drink water, if you're taking this medication. The HCTZ stands for Hydrochlorothiazide, which is a diuretic, is helps reduce blood pressure, along with the Losartan, by removing excess fluid from the body. It sounds like you may be getting dehydrated, because it's removing more than you're taking in each day. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain and increase urination. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking those two pills in the same dose for over two years now,is it safe to be on the water pill for such a long period of time, also are they still making that dose of water pill now.thank you for the info. ## Have you discussed this with your doctor? Only you and your doctor can decide what medication and for how long, is safe for you. There can be risks associated with the long term use of any medication, but the risks are usually far greater if you leave a dangerous medical condition untreated. As to the specific dosage, as far as I know it is still available, but you may want to check with your pharmacy to be certain.
